Turner Gill to UB
Heard it on WGR radio as I was driving back to my office from court.
I know Gill's been a longtime assistant, although I mainly remember him as Nebraska's option QB in the early 80's. Don't know if this means UB will be going to the option offense, although that might not be a bad idea with the talent they get. It's worked for Navy, after all.

I wish the best for Turner, although I wonder how he'll do as a head coach never being a coordinator and really only coaching position 1 year for WR's at NU. (He didn't have a clue.) As a QB coach at NU, well that's what that was, an option QB coach. No real value unless you do run option. And that takes a completely different type of athlete.
He's a great guy but he'll have a tough test for sure.
Media here questions if he felt pressured to take the job in large part as the Black Coaches Association would expect him to. I would think otherwise as why would he apply in the first place. I believe he's the 5th active D1 black head coach now.
He'll have a fairly large window of time to achieve due to the perceived low expectations at Buffalo. I would assume that to be the case..Terry?
The buzz here is Buffalo vs Ohio....compelling!

I wish him the best. I think he is a standup guy and will want to prove a lot of people wrong. This year started w/ 3 black coaches and now it is 5. The number has almost doubled. How can people say progress is not being made? I heard the BCA was pissed that CU hired Hawkins so quickly w/ out interviewing more minority candidates.

that may be true about the BCA (for understandable reasons) but from what i understand there were 3 interviews--and Jon Embree was one of them.Cicero wrote:I wish him the best. Good for Turner Gill and I wish him the best.
I think Buffalo won 1 game last year, so there is no place to go but up. Solich vs. Gill is kind of an interesting sidebar for Husker fans, but not a real compelling matchup. The two had a pretty good relationship I think, so it's not like a blood feud game or anything.

Sidebar? So the only way it's compelling to Husker fan is if they disliked each other?GrizBearStare wrote:Good for Turner Gill and I wish him the best.

I guess someone from Montana (or where ever) would have a grip on what is and what is not compelling to Corn fans. Thanks for your help.
Here's the compelling part...Solich was an assistant coach when Gill played.
Gill was Solich's assistant head coach.
That OK with you if it's compelling to me?

First of all, fuck right off. Did you even read my post? I said IT WAS INTERESTING TO HUSKER FANS. I am interested in it. Beyond that, as far as the rest of the world is concerned, it is not a compelling matchup. Buffalo won one game last year. Did you also see the part where I wished HCTG well?Cornhusker wrote:Sidebar? I am from Nebraska (Fremont, born and raised, to be exact)and AM a Husker fan. I went to college in Montana because I like it there. And you should read posts for comprehension before you freak out like a sorority chick who can't find her morning after pill.

So it can be interesting but not compelling...that Montana education just didn't work out real well huh? Study Custer's Indian fighting tactics there did ya?GrizBearStare wrote:First of all, fuck right off. Did you even read my post? I said IT WAS INTERESTING TO HUSKER FANS. I am interested in it. Who the fuck said it was compelling to anyone OTHER than NU fan? Not me! It's compelling to me...fuck anyone else.
Take your own advise and READ my post again Sally.
I'm sure no one cares but NU fan.
In my original post I said it was compelling...if I need to side note ONLY to NU fan than you can fuck a duck!
My nic is Cornhusker...what do suppose that might mean?
BTW, I LIVE in Fremont and your......never mind. She'll deny it.
Gill is highly respected in coaching circles, his mistake was not taking a promotion back when Neb was a power and he was a hot name. Buffalo will be a tough nut to crack but considering their history they can't expect real results any time soon. Just making them respectable will be an accomplishment.

Alright, this is the only free lesson I am going to give you
In summation, you had an seizure over nothing. Nobody other than NU fans give a shit about Gill vs. Solich. That's all I said. Try not to lose any more hair over it.
Good job fucking up this thread, though.
Wow, just.....wow. Work on it.So it can be interesting but not compelling...that Montana education just didn't work out real well huh? Study Custer's Indian fighting tactics there did ya?
As I said, it holds interest for NU fans but not really for anyone else. You are really pissing in the wind on this one.Who the fuck said it was compelling to anyone OTHER than NU fan? Not me! It's compelling to me...fuck anyone else.
And who gives a shit? Again, I was just making a general observation that Gill vs. Solich is interesting to NU fans but not in a national way like Pelini vs. Callahan would be for instance. Do you no speeka good Engrish?Take your own advise and READ my post again Sally.

Please refer to my above smackdowns of your uninformed homosexual rantIn my original post I said it was compelling...if I need to side note ONLY to NU fan than you can fuck a duck!

I can only presume that this is some sort of aborted attempt at a 'your mamma' joke ('sup 1987!) that you decided to abandon when you realized that you where in over your depth. You made the right decision.BTW, I LIVE in Fremont and your......never mind. She'll deny it

Not to take a piss on your parade there griz but I am pretty damn interested in how Turner does. Okay yeah I am taking a piss on your parade take it however the fuck you want but I am "compelled" by the story. Solich vs. Gill sounds like a game I would like to watch, especially between two mid maj... errr a mid major and a minor. I think at that level your coaching means even more than at the elite level of college sports.GrizBearStare wrote:As I said, it holds interest for NU fans but not really for anyone else. And you know what? More power to you. But view the question within this context:SunCoastSooner wrote:Not to take a piss on your parade there griz but I am pretty damn interested in how Turner does. If a Norm Chow coached team takes on a Pete Carroll coached team (hypothetically), the national media would be on it like Mama Cass on a ham sandwich. Now take out those names and substitute Gill and Solich. Do you think it creates the same type of stir on a national level?
That is my only point.

Glad you could join in BtH. I just thought I should throw a fuck in... considered a couple of shit and hell fires but I thought the fuck got my point across. Besides you have known me awhile now from numerous different forums and should recognize I can be a lot more belligerent than that, when I try.Believe the Heupel wrote:OH YEAH!

Sorry, I just wanted to continue the general unneccesary belligerence being shown in this thread.

With respect to Buffalo, I expect Gill will get a long leash there, if only due to their history. His predecessor, Hofner (sp?) did, I think he'd been there at least since Buffalo made the jump to 1-A, I think that was in '97. The downside for Gill is that taking this as his first head coaching job may be a death knell to his career. A decade or so of 1 and 2-win seasons might not make him attractive to another institution.
One thing Buffalo may have going for it: the MAC is comprised, for the most part, of state schools who have to play second fiddle or worse to other institutions in their state. By contrast, Buffalo is the only school in the SUNY system which plays 1-A football. Of course, SUNY has shown that athletics aren't exactly high on its list of priorities.
