Bullshit. Ewbank had 130 career victories and coached the 1958-59 two time world champion Colts in addition to the Jets.

The '58 and '59 Clots were led by Johnny U (HoF), Ray Berry (HoF), Lenny Moore (HoF), and Alan Ameche.

Much like the '95 Cowboys, Barry Switzer would have looked great coaching those Colt teams too.

Out of 20 seasons coaching pro football, Ewbank had just 7 winning seasons.

Weeb wasn't much.

Ray Berry coached the '85 Pats, yes.

Ray Berry was not the worst coach. He was actually very good. The Patriots were the WildCard team. The Bears were probably one of the Best Teams to ever play in the SuperBowl.

Not sure how you can dis a guy who coached THREE NFL Championship teams?

What's next? Bill Walsh wasn't all that because Joe Montana (HoF), Jerry Rice (HoF), Ronnie Lott (HoF) would have made Switzer look good?

Weeb Ewbank had a lifetime record of 130-129-7.

Lombardi was 96-34-6.

Walsh was 92-59-1.

Ewbank won 3 NFL titles, so props to him.

Let's keep in mind that the titles he won with the Colts in '58 and '59 were when there were just 12 teams in the entire league.
So clearly, winning a title at that time didn't mean as much as it does in modern times when you've got to be better than 30 teams.

If you look at Weeb's body of work, it is not real impressive.
Again, just 7 winning seasons out of 20 coached.

I'm not dissing him, I'm saying that he belongs aside Switzer as the worst coach to win a Super Bowl.

I'll go with Switzer, based strictly on NFL credentials.
Barry was a great college coach, but demonstrated the "Peter Principle"
by rising to his level of incompetence in the NFL.
He took Jimmy Johnson's leftovers to a Super Bowl.

Ewbank built two crap franchises into champions. When he joined the Colts, they had just moved from Dallas and were the laughing stock of the league. In 5 years he built them into back to back NFL champs.

Didn't know Weeb Ewbank could get so much luv.

Tom Flores' coaching record took a serious hit by sucking for 3 seasons in Seattle ...... when his QBs were Stan Gelbaugh, Dan McGwire, Kelly Stouffer, and Rick Mirer.

Yeah, I'm sure Weeb would have FLOURISHED with those guys taking snaps for him.

No Namath, No Unitas, .....Weeb pretty well sucked.
Look it up.
Well hell, he even was often mediocre WITH those guys.

Flores won two Super Bowls in the modern era.
Weeb won twice when the league consisted of 12 teams.
Not only that, as soon as Lombardi arrived on the scene Weeb and his Unitas-led Colts were TOAST.
Never got a sniff of their division.
It was all GB.

Dio's got a good point on Flores.
Getting maximum effort from available talent separates the great coaches
from the merely good, or ordinary ones.
Case in point:
Don Shula took a team with David Woodley at QB to a Super Bowl.

And you caould make the case (which I beleived at the time) that all Flores did was cruise by on what Madden built, and eventually it petered out.

And you have to admit Rauch was one of the bigger mediocrites to coach a losing team.

McCafferty still wins.
