Big XII Haters

We always agree a conference's strength is based on how they do in the bowl games. Here's the tally:

Big XII(3-1)

Kansas over Houston
(23 AP/Coaches) Clemson over Colorado
Nebraska over (20 BCS) Michigan
Oklahoma over (5 BCS) Oregon

Still to come...

South Carolina vs. Missouri
(14 BCS) TCU vs. Iowa St.
(15 BCS) Texas Tech vs. (13 BCS) Alabama
(1 BCS) USC vs. (2 BCS) Texas

Note one thing...EVERY Big XII opponent except Houston is ranked higher than the corresponding Big XII team. I surely wouldn't be surprised to see the remaining Big XII teams win out. Probably going to be 3-1 with the remaining 4 with the loss being either tech or Texas.

In any case, the XII haters need to get their "Yeah, but..." stories together.

As a clone fan who is accustumed to the worst case scenario always being the exact thing that happens to the Cyclones, the B12 will go 3-1 on it's remaining games with the lone loss being ISU. They'll give up a 13 point lead in the fourth quarter and end up losing by a field goal in overtime......book it.

As I've posted before, that might be a faulty premise. We're taking about one game per team, and after a one-month delay at that. Having said that, there probably isn't another way to gauge the relative strength of the conferences that doesn't involve polls and/or computers. Given who I root for, I don't have a dog in the best conference fight in any event.

Fwiw, my prediction from here is that the Big XII finishes 4-4, with only Taco Tech winning from here on out. On the other hand, two of my four losses in the Bowl Pick-'Em so far involve Big XII teams (Nebraska and Oklahoma).

Momentum is a huge factor in CFB, as we all know. Perhaps the Big 12 started slow, and is finishing strong? That's one of the things that would become more significant in CFB, should a playoff be staged.

Well, one of my main points is that is most every game the XII is in, they are the dog. Kansas was the favorite and they won. Colorado was the dog and they lost. OU and NU were dogs and they won. The only remaining favorite is tech and that's by only 3 points.

Saying there is a month layoff isn't an excuse for any team. Both teams have the layoff.

I'm just pointing out that the XII may not be as bad as many here and nationwide have pegged them to be. The fact all teams minus KU are playing what most consider to be superior competition and beating them, thus far, lends way to this.

I would agree with that. In recent years, it's the other way around.

I didn't mean to say it's an excuse. I did say, in another thread, that perhaps it's a bit of an equalizer. As PSUFAN said, momentum is an important part of college football, and during the regular season, Oregon definitely had an edge over Oklahoma in that department. So too did Michigan over Nebraska, at least in the latter half of the season.

As I said, I don't have a dog in the conference debate, so I tend to refrain from the "your conference sucks" barbs that so often populate this board. I never thought the Big XII sucked this year, although perhaps it had a down year by its standards, particularly in the North Division.

You know, not to bring up old wounds, but they showed that replay last night, and it was the first time I saw it from the endzone. I loved how the back judge was right there, came running up to the play, looked over to the side judge, who was running in, and at the last second threw his hands up. Wow.

Honestly, I think the Big XII could be 4-0 right now if Mike "lame duck" Hankewitz had put in Brian White at halftime. Then again, this is the Buffs we're talking about. I'm still trying to figre out why Bernard Jackson got exactly zero snaps at QB this season despite outplaying everyone (Klatt included) last spring. Hopefully Hawkins isn't afraid of a QB who can make plays with his arm and his legs.

If they'd have used White instead of that fucking stiff, Klatt, they might have avoided being assraped by both the Tornado, AND the fucking Corn and maybe even ended up in a non-afternoon bowl game

additionally, the amazing thing is that White was below Cox on the depth chart. i don't know anymore about football than anyone else, but i feel somewhat redeemed for telling anyone who would listen of my Buff buddies that Shawn Watson sucks. and this going back to Ochs freshman year....at least. the goofy rollout shit he was running with Ochs looked like a less-inspired version of an Oklahoma 8 man football playbook.

Remember though, it's all about momentum. The entire Big XII, sans CU, hit their stride at once. That can happen with a month off you know, the whole conference playing well and all..

Beyond wins and losses against "mediocre" teams (arguably).... the thing I've really liked about the Big XII so far this bowl season is the passion with which they're playing. In each and every game the Big XII has been in.... the players and fans have [gasp] actually respected the game of college football. Imagine that.

Brad Smith and Mizzu, for example, played with the heart of lions earlier today..... while pussies like Lawrence Moroney were just counting down the seconds until they can declare for the draft early.

The Big XII has really been a breath of fresh air in between having to watch these spoiled pussies like Miami act like they'd rather be anywhere else than on a football field.

Rack the B-XII.... not necessarily for just winning some games.... but more so for exemplifying the true spirit of college football.

Not sure how the date matters, these are bowl tie-ins no matter how good or bad the conference is we still would have had 5 teams playing bowl games by this date.

Actually the Mich team that lost to BYU was worse, and this squad was quite talented. They had underachieved but the talent was there and they were the healthiest they'd been in a long time. The refs did help us, gotta admit it, but it was still a respectable win.

The 12 were underdogs in each win except KU/Houston, in which KU really bashed Houston badly. Hell CU even represented, played decently considering the circumstances, might have won if they had started the right qb. I'd say we have reason to do a little chest-thumping after all the crap we took. We aren't the shit but we aren't shitty either.

didn't florida need double OT and a bogus celebration penalty to beat Vandy at the swamp? and then lose to the self-same S. Carolina team that Mizzou beat the next week?

that Iowa and UFLA are playing in a bowl game seems somehow appropriate.

Alden was giving Pinkel another year extension(3more years) it was inevitable, i think no Pinkel and no Maclin or Daniel.

In the first place, there wasn't any 5th down; an official's time-out negated one play at the goal line, which adds up to 4 downs, not 5.

In the second place, it's been over 15 years. Get over it already

there was 5 downs dumbfuck

No. 72 - You always go for it on fifth down.
Colorado 33Missouri 31 October 6, 1990
A good Colorado team, ranked No. 12 in the country, was going into Missouri for just another Big 8 conference game against a relatively bad Missouri team. Little did everyone know that the controversy that would ensue would only grow as the season went on. Down 31-27 with 31 seconds to play, the Buffaloes had the ball first and goal on the Missouri three. Quarterback Charles Johnson spiked the ball to stop the clock. Second down: Running back Eric Bieniemy, who ran for 217 yards on the day, barreled down to the one. Colorado called time out with 18 seconds to go. On third down, Bieniemy was stuffed. The officials stopped the clock with eight seconds to go saying Missouri wasnt unpiling fast enough. Fourth down: Johnson spiked the ball again to stop the clock. Why? The down marker said third down as they failed to flip it after second down. Soooooo.Fifth down: With two seconds to play Johnson forced it in from the one, getting in by just the nose of the ball, if at all, for the winning touchdown. The officials didnt signal for a touchdown and the fans rushed the field even tearing down one of the goalposts. When an official signaled touchdown, a riot erupted on the field. After Missouri tried to change the outcome, they were informed that, under NCAA rules, it couldnt.
Historical Significance: Colorado went on to beat Notre Dame in the Orange Bowl and won a share of the national title along with Georgia Tech finishing the season, officially 11-1-1. In many people's eyes, Colorado was really 10-2-1 and shouldnt have been given any piece of the national title.
cuda, are you trolling, or just an idiot? seriously, noone but your dumbass has ever made that claim! NOONE. congrats on tooting your own assnine horn on something your completely wrong about! dumbass

PS MU fan don't give a shit, it's in the past, they were dumb enough for not making sure of downs and not stopping play to get downs correct.

pss he didn't get in on 5th down. but hey, the zebras see what they want to see, replay would of given MU the win. stupidity on Zebras and MU coaches gave Colorado the victory and a National title in the end!

I've grown accustomed to imagining the worst case scenario happen with the Clones....but even I didn't see this one. TCU didn't beat ISU, ISU beat ISU.

No running game, or kicking game whatsoever. Virtually ignoring Blythe the second quarter. Oh well.

To the rest of the Big 12, best of luck. Hopefully we finish strong.

Rack Brave Fan, Big 12 came out in every game and showed emotion........Loved the boyz of the corn shuck Bitchigan....Michigan looked as though they had just chowed down on a large all U can eat buffet......Slow, Sluggish, and full of shit.....Props to the corn.....but.........The Corn had a horrible year. Think about it. Kansas......If you are a fan of College football and have a bit of parity thought, you know the big 12 was really bad this year. Oklahomo 8-5, Mizzo 7-5 with B Smith and a down B 12 north. Colorado..........never mind...K we couldn't find any J college players to save our ass State.....

Bottom line, bowls seem to be good for 2 things, The Champ...maybe, and next seasons top 25.............

ISU played 1-loss TCU down to the wire in Texas. A win would have been nice but it is no shame to lose a close one. Meyer could have played better and Hicks just can't get healthy this season.
