there is no desirable outcome, i don't understand why Soonerfan can say this yet not keep beating his or herself over the head with it.
i'm not as virulent a UT hater as many, and actually sort of pulled for UT in games that didn't really effect OU (like UT-ATM) before i got on-line.
i think you pull for USC tonight, and then hope they lose a game next year. i fear many Sooner fans (especially those LIVING in Texas) getting all warm and fuzzy about conference loyalty are not looking clearly into the future as to what day to day life will be like with the insufferable faux-aristocrat of the lower plains southwest paint thinner nonsense Longhorn fan will be huffing and spewing after a potential MNC.
Texas is a damn good football team this year, and if USC breaks the streak next year....my hat is off to them.
Fight On!

Wow! I didn't realize the streak was so important. I understand wanting to keep the streak for yourselves, but to have Texas be the ones to preserve your streak sounds sort of.....oogy.

it's a bad situation to be in. valid or not, there was a time when people mentioned the 47 straight streak in D-1 as comparable to Dimaggio's consecutive game hit streak, and Byron Nelson's 11 straight PGA tour wins: one of the untouchable records in sport.See You Next Wednesday wrote:Wow! i won't pull for Texas tonight. i'd rather experience defeat of whatever kind because of one team's excellence than compromise my values.

I'm not really into the "root against your rival" crap. It seems a bit "Babsesque". She gets off on UM's hard times to the point of ignoring her own team's flounderings.
Our chief rival is OSU. I want them undefeated come November each year. I want to beat them to win the conference. I will then want them to win their bowl game, not only for the conference, but it makes beating them all the more impressive. I faced the same dilema in '02. OSU vs. Miami. I wrestled with rooting for the Buckeyes, them winning a MNC seemed unbearable. Then the Miami fans showed their asses at the sports bar. What a bunch of idiots. I was a Buckeye fan that night, and I'll be damned if anyone can doubt my UMfan credentials.

i hear what you are saying, but that's not (to me at least) the issue. Oklahoma has won 4 national championships since UT won their last when the Beatles were still together (also more than UT has ever won). so i don't see it as OU fan (most, some) as hating UT (UM) as a recompense for OU (MSU) stinking up the joint and being an ankle or pillow biter.WolverineSteve wrote:I'm not really into the "root against your rival" crap. I guess the deal is that our chief rival is OSU and we are theirs as well.
MSU's little bro complex rears up although UMfan doesn't see it as much of a rivalry. It's mostly the little bitch whining for respect. Until they're relevant it's all about OSU, and perhaps ND.

I did root for CU against ND in '91 though. I can understand some Sooner fan's inability to root for Texas. There's no love in that one.

Been reading it for days.
I am honestly torn. I'd root for the hand of God but that is unrealistic... everyone one knows he is ignoring this game this is all about man's free will.
