Levy is a transitional hire. Wilson is feeling burnt because he invested so much power in Donahoe, only to have it blow up in his face. The new look Bills will have Levy, Wilson and Tom Modrak all assuming portions of Donahoe's old duties.

Still.. I get working and keeping busy to stay young... but fuck.. 81 years old is getting there to be a VP????
Theres no one a bit younger ?? Of course it is Buffalo.. This does not say shit for the management talent in the NFL...
Levy is in my Death Pool, so I will be watching this closely, Marv may pop a valve or vein if he melts down in the office more than once..

Think of Marv as an ambasador. Donahoe ruffled a LOT of feathers amongst season ticket holders and corporate partners. Levy is just the kind of guy to come in and placate those people with some glad handing, while at the same time serving as a senior counsel to Ralph Wilson's brain trust.Derron wrote:Still.. This from yesterday's report of Donahoe's firing.
And this from today's report of Levy's hiring. If Levy does indeed take over the GM role as it appears, he’ll head up the football operations, which will be separated from the administration of the club. Russ Brandon, the club’s vice president of business development and marketing, may assume additional administrative duties, though Wilson didn’t confirm that.

In other words, Modrak is going to be doing ALL the legwork when it comes to personel. Levy will serve as a sounding board/sanity test for Modrak's personel decisions and Levy will have nothing to do with the day to day marketing and business decisions.— The Buffalo Bills today hired Hall of Fame coach Marv Levy as vice president of football operations.
Levy, 80, replaces Tom Donahoe, who was fired yesterday as the team’s president and general manager.
Levy will run the football-related business of the Bills, with Tom Modrak serving as his assistant in charge of scouting and pro personnel.
Team owner Ralph Wilson, 87, will take back his position as team president and will name another person to run the team’s off-the field business and marketing operations.

In other words, it's a cake job for Levy. He'll shake a few hands as the figurehead GM, make some personel recomendations to Wilson (after reviewing data supplied by Modrak) and will mentor Mike Mularkey.

He'll shake a few hands if he can keep his old palsied hands from shaking themselves. "Hi ya'll... want to see my surgery scar ??, senior discount before 5 pm at Home Town Buffet.""In other words, it's a cake job for Levy. He'll make personel receomendations if he can remember who was in the league in 1975. "Lets get that black running back at USC.."
He will mentor Mularkey in what ?? Shuffleboard ?? Bingo ?? Bitching about your legs hurting ?? Can't get it up even with 3 hits of Viagra ??
" E mail you ??? What the fuck is that ???"

Derron,
Levy has been out of the league for less time, and has stayed in closer contact with the NFL game than Joe Gibbs. In his fairly limited role he'll do just fine. Though I agree that a full fledged GM's role would be WAY too much for Marv (or anybody else who has been out of the game for 9 years) to handle. The game has changed way too much in the last 10 years with respect to cap space and contract parameters for someone without recent hands on experience to step in and handle day to day business operations.
