Michigan RB to transfer...

Post by WolverineSteve »

Max Martin to transfer to Alabama.

Thoughts...
He was a third stringer anyway. Fumble problems and off-field issues surround this kid. Good luck at 'bama.

Fargas got alot of PT up until a gruesome leg break. They then tried to move him to DB, which is when he bailed. I always liked the kid and was glad he found success elsewhere, I hope for good things for Martin as well.

That move makes sense for him. He's from Alabama and he's no higher than #3 on the depth chart behind Hart and Grady and Jerome Jackson will be back for another year as well. Unless Darby leaves early, Martin isn't going to start next year for the Tide but he'll probably get more carries down there than with the Wolverines. He had a couple of solid weeks...picking up 209 yards in the Eastern Michigan and Wisconsin games. He picked up only 18 yards the rest of the season.

Fumble problems? He never fumbled in a game.

Texas always has 2 or 3 guys transfer because of lack of playing time or kids being too far down the depth chart. It goes with all the hoopla of taking kids that are highly ranked as recruits.

A lot of times these 4 and 5 star kids come it believing all their headlines and then when things don't go as planned they bail.

This is why I like it when Texas gets a mix of lower ranked recruits with a few big name recruits, usually the lower ranked kids come in knowing they have to work to get what they want.

Texas DT Rod Wright was a 5-star can't miss NFL 1st round pick until he played himself into the 2nd or 3rd round this year. Michael Huff was a 3-star nobody who worked himself in a Thorpe award winner and likely 1st round NFL draft Pick.

I like my lineman being the 2-3 star type. They bust their ass like no other and usually end being your starters and all conference guys. I try not to put too much stock in rankings b/c not everyone plays against the same competition.

FSU has a log jam at RB and I expect a transfer or two after this season.

Same thing happened in 02 when Erick Shelton and Thomas Clayton transferred b/c we had Greg Jones, Booker and Leon.

last year's rose bowl, though it trickled painfully slow out-of-bounds.
Bring back John Cooper!!! He's the only OSU coach we've had a winning record against since the Korean War!

This is the thing about Carroll that I love most. He is up front with every recruit that there is no guarantee they'll ever see the field, they have to earn it in practice. Same goes for the starters already there. Every player knows that practice isn't just about learning a game plan, it's competition.

We've been fortunate, and haven't seen kids transfer for lack of PT. Yet.
