Sounds more like he was a Donahoe guy and the team is in the process of flushing out every last vestige of that douchbag's tenure.
My thought is that Mularkey knew the deck was stacked against him next year, but was willing initially to ride it out and collect the check. But when his family life started to suffer, he thought twice about sticking it out just for the check.

Maddox just had a bunch of garbage dumped on his lawn. My next door neighbor had that happen and they're just teachers at the local school. From what I hear, Mularkey's kids were subjected to a whole lot more than that.
