Is it just me?
Or are the Steelers fans a bunch of whiny little bitches?
Instead of getting pscyhed up for the game next week and talking about the AFC chamiponship- all day here and at my job has been spent bitching about the calls in the game yesterday. You guys won! Deal with it... There were bad calls on both sides of the ball (As well as the now documented bad call on the INT), but you were the superior team. You showed up, Indy didn't. Cower had his boys more prepared. The game is in the win column- move on.
If you had lost, I could understand being upset.... but Jesus Christ!

Truth be told, if the Steelers had lost, you wouldn't be hearing anywhere near as much about the calls. But we've got a day or so before the AFC Championship smack get's fueled up. So we're talking about how the NFL is turning into the WWE. You and I both know that is true. So why the whining?

All I saw was Bri giving that non-INT call the benefit of the doubt until he got further clarification on the rule and very little in the way of sour grapes or being a sore winner.

There's a very good reason to be upset. The official blew the call because he evidently didn't know the rules.
Why is that?
How come the NFL rule book isn't posted on the Web for every fan to see?
If it was, do you think that call would have still been blown?
Probably not, because most everybody would know most of the rules including the obscure ones.
The NFL needs to post the rule book for every fan to see.
It shouldn't be secret, and it should be written to minimize judgment calls by the officials.
A good rule change to minimize a judgment call would be "the ground can cause a fumble“. A fumble would be a fumble and there would never need to be a review for such cases, or a blown call because a ref blew his whistle prematurely and the play dead.
Anyway posting the NFL rule book on the web would enable changes before another blown call & game changing play is allowed. Certainly every media outlet (radio, TV & web) would review and critique it.
But most people don’t seem to get it.........

For fucks sake B, you swallowed bait and hook, while I wasnt even fishing. Rod and reel is in the garage, and I have not re-newed my license.
Stop fucking whining, and take this win as some kind badge of courage. Your team prevailed, against all odds. Enjoy the win, and now focus upon Denver, instead of going Joey Porter, and talking about how everyone tried to screw you. You have plenty of time in Feb, Mar, Apr, May, June, and July for that shit, and you know the old saying ........ Spend to much time looking over your shoulder ...... blah, blah blah.
Go Steelers, beat the fucking donks.

Doesn't get it.
I'll explain.
Winning or losing doesn't matter on this issue. The call on the field is so blatantly evil (whether it was a bad rule and a correct call or a blown call) that the entire integrity of the NFL was in jeopardy yesterday. Just because the Steelers surived this referee-imposed screw job by the skin of their teeth doesn't negate how WRONG the NFL is.
That's like saying you shouldn't be pissed off that I shot a bullet at your head because I only grazed your ear.

Oh give me a break. The call wasn't evil, it was wrong is all. The official made a mistake. The fix wasn't in. Anybody who believes there is some sort of conspiracy here is a moron's moron. An official's mistake might be thinking a receiver got both feet inbounds on a bang-bang play.
We can all accept that those kinds of 'mistakes' might happen.
So SYNW, how do you explain the referee's actions in this particular case...?
He doesn't know the rule..?
He got flustered under the pressure...?
The INT was clear.
No doubt about it.
This is not some obscure game situation, dude, it was a friggin' run-of-the-mill INT for crying out loud.
Go inside the replay booth, pull a 'rule' out of a hat, announce it, Indy retains possession.
Oooops.
My bad.
Fuck off.

Yet none of the officials knew the rule?
The NFL is getting closer to the WWF every day, and that day would be here today if the Colts somehow pulled the game out.
Yet there is no problem?

One ref watched the play on replay. One ref made the wrong interpretation on a rule that is not the clearest. Get over it. The NFL is not about to collapse, there is no conspiracy against the Steelers.

A couple questions:See You Next Wednesday wrote:One ref watched the play on replay. One ref made the wrong interpretation on a rule that is not the clearest. Get over it. The NFL is not about to collapse, there is no conspiracy against the Steelers.
Whiners.
1. Did you watch the game from start to finish? Yes or No?
2. Did you see the "play" where the two teams moved before the snap and touched each other, and the referee ruled that the play didn't exist?
3. Is the ruling listed in question #2 in the NFL rulebook? (If you don't know, take a stab at it anyway)
4. If you answered "no" (just as I did), then is that not a case of the referees molding the game to their liking, OUTSIDE the confines of the NFL's rules?
5. And if the referee can mold the game to his liking OUTSIDE the rulebook -- in the same game, no less -- then is it so unreasonable to believe the refs can mold the game WITHIN the loose confines of the NFL rules (as they did on the Polamalu interception)?
Call me a purist, but to me it's much easier to watch a game when I know my team only needs to worry about the guys across the line of scrimmage from them.
I'm not much into the WWE, referee-turns-heel "entertainment" that the southern hicks gobble up like baked beans.

I wasn't talking to you, but thanks for belaboring an old point.Just because the officating crew for that game sucked- doesn't mean there is some big conspiracy. They missed calls on both sides of the ball for BOTH teams. Yes- the misinterpretation of the rule on the INT was a major fuckup.. but its done.

As far as arguing that the referees just "sucked" or were incompetent, I don't buy that for a second and here's why.
When two teams move before the snap and make contact, even the dumbest official on the field is experienced enough to know that SOMEBODY is at fault. But instead of calling Faneca for a false start or calling the the Colts DL for encroachment, they said there WAS NO FOUL.
LMAO!
C'mon.
They were obviously making it a "no call" because of the plays significance to the game. If they called the Colts for encroachment, that would have basically ended their season and the refs wanted NOTHING to do with ending someone's season on an encroachment call.
Ditto with the Steelers on the flip side.

If you want to argue that the refs are incompentent, I'll go along with that. I suppose I might even entertain talk that the individual ref was on the make, although you would think if that were the case he probably could've donte a much much better job of it.
But to claim that the league was trying to manipulate the outcome, that they would risk this multi-billion dollar highly successful league so that they could have a "slightly" more attractive Colts team in the AFC Championship game is ludicrous. I mean how does that go? Is Tags sitting in his office and thinking, "Hmmm, I know this league is way beyond successful, everybody is getting rich, yet...I can't help but think if we secure that the Colts are in the AFC Champiosnhip game this league will get that crucial extra half percentage ratings boost. Better call the head of officals and arrange that."

I usually don't complain about offciating or buy into conspiracies. I know the NFL is a great league and is normally the model that all other leagues should follow.
But the truth is the referee had an opportunity to make a ruling one way or the other on Polamalu's INT, and you want to know what's scary? There are absolutely ZERO repercussions for calling the play one way or the other. Think about it.
Can you see the league office punishing the referee if he rules that a catch? Of course not. The public thinks it is a catch, so there are no PR issues to overcome there. But will there be any repercussions from the league for ruling it in the crappy way that they did? See "Tuck Rule" to get your answer to that question.
So essentially, as long as the call isn't so ridiculous that it cannot be covered up with a rulebook, jargon-laden postgame explanation, the refs have carte blanch on that play.
If you're naive enough to trust human nature to behave ethically in a situation where there are no repercussions, then let's stop talking now.
Do I think games are fixed regularly? No. Do I think the league bends the rules for its superstars and super teams? Sure, why not? Human nature.
