I totally agree. But Vito suggested they wouldn't even break the preseason top 10 which, given the media hype of CFB today, is nearly impossible for a team that just held up the crystal ball.

This thread is exactly the reason there shouldn't be a preseson poll. No one knows a damn thing about 2006. It is all a guess or based on rep.

I'm pretty sure they ranked Texas #1 before Vince declaired. Looking at Texas as a whole you can make an argument that next years team is going to be better than last year...EXCEPT for QB POSITION!

I can't tell when they released their rankings.... but I do know they're fully aware of the fact that VY is leaving (i.e. their website makes several references to it). They did say they could have a shake-up in their pre-season rankings come spring time.

But if you look at the early-bird rankings these guys have put out for the last several years, they're always dead on. If they've got Texas #1, they'll probably be #1.... and there's no way in hell they'll be any lower than #3.

I guess my stance is that Texas should be #1 until (and IF) they lose. I don't say that every year about anybody coming off an MNC..... but Texas is still loaded beyond belief. Yes, they're losing VY and might have a freshman QB..... but name me a top-tier team that isn't losing some major talent. Sure, VY was arguably more valuable to his team than any other player in America...... but OSU, Notre Dame, PSU, FSU, LSU, Miami, Virginia Tech, Auburn, Florida, etc. ALL have much bigger question marks (imo) than Texas does. There is only a chance that Texas might have a mediocre QB. But there is absolutley NO chance that Texas won't be stacked with NFL talent at damn near every other position on the field. And these guys are experienced.... have won two HUGE road games against great teams.... and they've got a very nice schedule in front of them to boot.

Name me one team that will be favored to beat Texas this year. Keep in mind that nobody came within 11 points of them other than tOSU (in Columbus, at night) and USC (in LA, at night) (yes.... I realize it was a neutral crowd). Nobody in the Big XII even competed....it was a joke. aTm and oksu pretended for a half, but still ended up losing big.

In '06, other than the aforementioned rematch w/ tOSU..... Oklahoma and Nebraska are the only two teams that might have a reasonable shot.... and Texas will be at least 7-point favorites in both of those games. Everyone else gets monkey-fucked.

Texas was far from a one-man show. They've got more talent coming back than anyone in America.... and the toughest team they play will be a very young Ohio State in a home night game.

I just don't see UT losing more than one game, if that, next year.

Easily tOSU will be favored, depending on how Texas fairs in their first 4 games and how OU does, the Red River Shootout could be anywhere from tossup to one of the two being heavily favored. Then there is Taco-Tech and Nebraska who will both be better next year. Yea I can see Texas dropping 2 or 3 games. I do feel that by T+1 The Texas offense will be good enough to compete with any team out there.

Is that the same Texas Tech you beat 52-17? The same RRS that you won 45-12? The same conference in which you won the Championship game 70-3? The same tOSU that's losing their entire linebacking corps, defensive secondary, and two best pass rushers?

And Texas has 7 guys coming back on both sides of the ball?

I don't pretend to be an oddsmaker, but I'd be shocked if Texas was any less than a 7-point favorite in any game they play, including tOSU.

To each his own.... but when you've got big-game-proven, national title talent.... and Texas Tech and Nebraska are your two toughest road games..... life is good.

Actually Brave, I've been hearing that this might be a noon (possibly 11 am) start. Folks in Austin allegedly wanna see tOSU melt in the Texas sun.

You are correct. Texas wants that game to go off at Noon Central Time. OSU had an advantage playing at night, and Texas wants the same advantage with the heat.

I wonder what happens if Texas wants a nooner and ABC wants a night game? I recall hearing that ABC had a lot to do with the game being played in the 8:00 slot last year.

Last year they had the UofM/ND game to deal with. This year, they don't.
