Non-Steeler/Non-SeahawkFan: Who are you rooting for?

Post by Shoalzie »

The only three teams I'll never root for in a Super Bowl is Chicago, Green Bay and Minnesota because they're division rivals. I'm not anti-AFC or pro-NFC. My rule is usually whomever has the most Wolverines and former-Lions on the roster. It's been easy with the Pats the last few years with Brady being a former Wolverine. Going by my formula...

Steelers (7):
2 Wolverines (Foote & Tuman)
5 Lions (Batch, Hartings, Iwuoma, Kirschke & Kriewaldt)

Seahawks (3):
3 Wolverines (Hutchinson, Kashama & LeSueur)
0 Lions

Throw in the Bettis-Detroit factor...I guess that means, Go Steelers!

Steelers. Bettis is nails and Roethlisberger reminds me of a young Elway.

I'm going with Pittsburgh since Cowher is the old Chiefs Def. Coord. from the early Schottenheimer days, plus I'd like to see Bettis get a ring.

Seattle. Because....has that town won a championship in anything? They're due. Also, I'm tired of the "lack of respect" run that Pittsburgh has been getting. They're one of the most storied, recognizable teams in the NFL. Right up there with the Cowboys, Broncos, Packers and 49ers.

What I be rooting for?

A significantly more explicit "Girls Gone Wild" pay per view halftime show.

Sonics won the NBA championship in 1978.

The Huskies won the NCAA Football title in 1991...Mark Brunell ring any bells? They also were kind of the dominant CFB team of the early part of the 20th century, not that CFB was then what it is now.

Growing up in Portland, the media-types decided for me that I was a Chicken fan. Well, too fucking bad, by that point I already had a regional team I rooted for, which was the Niners, the worst team in the NFL in the pre-Walsh days. Sorry if I didn't just jump ship because I was told to, and because it would be more convenient for all involved.

If I have to fucking endure one more sunday of "stay tuned for **insert biggest game of the regular season here**, except in Portland, where you get to watch the Seahawks get blown out by some shitty team again" I'm going to scream.

And if I didn't hate the Loserhawks before, my archenemy of the sporting world went and bought the team. Have fun when Evil Allen sticks you with the bill for his stadium the first year it doesn't turn a profit, Suckers in Seattle.

I'm an NFC guy, to be certain, but Pittsburg has always been my favorite AFC team, so this one is a no-brainer.

The only chance Seattle has is if Scrub Alexander gets hurt again and they are forced to put their best RB in, who will carry them to victory.

Kinda like Morris did with that 34 carry, 132 yard 2 td game he had against Carolina right?

Oh wait, that was Alexander.

There's a reason they don't let me pick who goes to the Pro Bowl.

Rest assured, Maurice would be facing Reuben Droughns on ther AFC side of the ball, where Akili Smith would obviously be QBing against Joey Harrington. Peter Sirmon and Keith Lewis would never be flagged for chopblocking and spitting in the face of Nick Barnett.

It's a Green and Yellow world, we're just living in it.

Didn't Chad Johnson and TJ Houshmanzedah play at Oregon as well?

Tedford has a way with QBs.

And Joey has had about as much of a chance to shine as David Carr has. Akili never even got a chance. Had the tools to be a good NFL QB, but was nothing but a sacrificial lamb in Cincy. It takes both skill and luck to be a star.

But please continue to show your ignorance. Over the last 20 years, if my memory is working properly (fat chance), just about every QB that has started a game for Oregon has gone on to play in the NFL. The exceptions that I can think of were Danny O'Neal, who cited some strange religious convictions as why he wasn't entering the draft, even though he was a first-rounder; and Jason Fife, because he fucking sucked.

Do the names Dan Fouts, Bill Musgrave, Tony Graziani (the most dominant player in the history of the Arena League, for what that's worth), AJ Feeley, a BACKUP QB at Oregon who was drafted before the QB who won the Heisman, and maybe Norn Van Brocklin ring a bell?

Oh, and let's not forget possibly the baddest assed QB to EVER play the game -- Chris Miller. That guy was a little too tough for his own good. But damn, those 3 games he played a year were a thing of beauty. His techniques for "getting ahead" in the NFL might not have been very sound, unless by "sound," you mean getting his bell rung without fear. Chris, you may not remember your name, but we do.

I'll give you Dan Fouts. Props to the rest of those guys for making NFL rosters.

Akili and Joey, however, didn't even come close to the expectations everyone had of them.

Speaking for "everyone?"

For both those guys, my expectations were that they were going to do what every other QB does that goes to a team that uses high first round picks on QBs before they build an offensive line -- I fully expected them to spend the early years of their careers taking a fucking beating. See also David Carr, Tim Couch, etc etc etc etc etc etc etc.

I'm kind of clairvoyant like that.

Steelers all the way. Having so many Giants games pre-empted by the Washington affiliate showing Shithawk football for years has made me a Seahawk haytah for life.

Do it for the Bus! Do it for coach Slaughter! Do it so Polamalu can do his hair in his Lombardi reflection!

^^^Feels my pain. I wonder if the people in charge of such things realize their strategy was counterproductive?

And I'm a huge huge huge Troy Polamalu fan, since he's the most exciting player to watch anymore...even if the little fucking bitch went to college out of state...should have been a Quacker.

I'll go with the Steeler becuz the Rooneys have actually stuck with a coach long enough for him to build a consistent winner. Plus Cowher is a heck of a coach who deserves a ring.

I fucking hate the Steelers and their fans and yet i'll pull for them anyway because they play football the way it was meant to be played. If people like Bettis, Ward, Faneca, Farrior, and Polamalu don't get rings for what they do week in and week out, then there is no justice.

Since this thread is back up top, I took a quick little skim-through to reacquaint myself with it, and missed this little gem the first time around:

I've got an excuse too -- I'm sandbagging on work. That comes later. Been working lots of later stints, which is why I've been around here frequently in the earlier hours...since you care.

And while we may not have invented "shit to do" in the U&L, we did perfect it. Been an absolutely shitty winter for golfing, though.
