McNabb losing credibility

All he had to do was continue to take the higher ground, let the TO issue die off. Instead, he feels the need to spew this garbage..

McNabb says Owens' criticism amounts to ``black-on-black crime''

February 1, 2006

DETROIT (AP) -- Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb injected a race element into his rift with Terrell Owens on Wednesday, saying the receiver's criticism amounted to "black-on-black crime."

In an interview with ESPN, McNabb rehashed some of the low moments of his relationship with his teammate, making fun of Owens' driveway apology and bringing up the race angle.

In November, responding to a question from Michael Irvin during an ESPN interview, Owens said Philadelphia would likely be in a better situation if Brett Favre was the quarterback instead of the banged-up McNabb.

"It was like, it's unreal," McNabb said. "That's like me going out and saying, `Hey, if we had Steve Largent. If we had Joe Jurevicius. It was definitely a slap in the face to me. It was a slap in the face because, as deep as people want to go into it, it was black-on-black crime."

:meds:

Not long after that, an NAACP leader criticized McNabb for "playing the race card" in explaining why he didn't run the ball as often as he used to.

In November, the Eagles suspended Owens for the remainder of the season for his repeated criticism of the team, McNabb and several other issues. The team recently gave Owens permission to seek a trade, and this week he visited the Denver Broncos.

On Wednesday, McNabb brought up some of the criticism he had taken through his career, and said Owens was simply piling on with his statement.

"It's different to say, `If we had Michael Vick or Daunte Culpepper or Steve McNair or Byron Leftwich," McNabb said of four black starting quarterbacks. "But to go straight to Brett Favre, that kind of just slapped me in the face like, `Wow ..."' While the statement was absurd mainly because Farve's career is over, the fact is Farve has a Super Bowl under his belt and is a proven leader. McNabb is turning out to be a big pussy who chokes in big games.

Owens apologized twice publicly -- once after his preseason holdout and then again, in his driveway, after he was suspended.

"The first apology, that was to the organization," McNabb said. "Then, I was thrown in there -- `If I offended Donovan in any way' -- you know. Instead of that, you could have just told me, hey, I apologize for the way it came out. I didn't mean it that way. Just come talk to me."

Damn. I like McNabb to but he is proving that he is just like every other black figure. Have to make race an issue out of everything. My bad he insulted you by comparing you to a WHITE guy. Damn bro, I know we are inferior and shit but come on. He should be glad TO compared him to Favre. Favre his a helluva lot better than him and his light years ahead of McNair, Vick and Culpepper.

I think T.O. is at least putting the Philly days behind him...McNabb needs to let this go and move forward for the sake of the Eagles. He didn't need to say this stuff. I lost some respect for him with the black-on-black crime comment. T.O. is a bad teammate but he didn't break any laws with what he did.

Washington, Denver, KC and Dallas ought to take note. Not only is the TO gifted at the art of team destruction, he also appears to have the ability to infect others with his stupidity.

Why not link the actual ESPN story? There’s a lot more there.

I particularly liked the classic misuse of “deep-seeded”.

Both players are to blame. TO for being a whiney little cuntrag, and McNabb for not setting him straight in the locker room behind closed doors. But the good news is both players don't need to wear the same uniform anymore, and instead TO can go play for the Chiefs while those faggoty Chief fans like KC Paul can pretend they didn't hate him before he signed there.

There is nothing shocking about what mvs says. I find it more or less amusing. Do you really need to ear-muff what mvs says anymore?

The Chiefs aren't going to sign TO. They are only acting interested to drive up the price the Broncos will have to pay for him. Then the faggoty :meds: Bronco fans can pretend they didn't hate him before he signed there.

TO's contract will most likely be incentive based so that's a stupid game to be playing if it were true. TO needs 1-2 years of shut your mouth football to repair his image. If he fails in Denver he's done.

Rush was always right, his problem was he went within a 150 mile radius of anything race-related and the politically correct pussies at the network forced his resignation.

Rush was a flipping retard. Had he said the same things about Vick, he might have a case. But McNabb's play under center has been in the upper echelon of NFL QBs of this era. Barring injury, McNabb should finish his career with 40,000+ passing yards and 275 TD Passes. And so far, his TD to INT ratio is 134 to 66. That is better than 2 to 1 for the non math people.

Black or white, that's a damn good career. That's a hall of fame career.

McNabb is a good player but Rush was right about him being overrated. For starters he hasn't been accurate for most of his career. Secondly, he can't elevate his game in the big games, he's usually worse in the post-season than he is in the regular season. The fact the Eagles have been the class of the NFC for the past 5 years (excluding last year) and they have nothing to show for it should validate that.

up til this comment, i had alot of respect for mcnabb. i understand why people say he's overrated, but i dont necessarily agree.

i heard mike wilbon respond to rush's comments and disagree with them, while at the same time he says he wanted mcnabb to do well because he was a black QB. so i guess rush was right about that.

how you can inject race into TO comments shows that he needs his head examined. donovan, congrats for setting race relations back 30 year, you paranoid lunatic.

Rush was wrong in stating McNabb was overrated and more of a media creation because statisically McNabb has had a good career and has led an offense that was downright shitty to a few NFC championships long before TO came along. What you saw happen when McNabb got a true #1 receiver was his stats improve, which you would expect. Like Peyton Manning, McNabb is going to be branded as a QB who will choke under pressure until he wins a SB but you don't continually lead your team to a 10+ win season with pretty good stats if you're not better than average.

That being said, McNabb is bringing an even larger microscope upon himself by making the TO issue about race. He was insulted with Rush's comments. He was insulted with the philly chapter NAACP president's comments and now he must understand that his fans and the rest of the NFL are not only insulted with his comments but it puts his handling of the TO issue into a different light because if he were a true leader he would have worked with TO and Andy Reid to straighten this thing out one way or another. But like Reid, McNabb let it continue and now you see why. McNabb like Mondessi and Rush is just as much a dumbfuck because he clearly felt it was a racial issue which obviously clouded his ability to reasonably settle the dispute, take the team on his back and move on. Instead he divided a locker room. And now he's going to alienate fans and if he thought he heard loud boos on draft day, just wait till he has a shitty game next year. The fans will let him have it.

How this next season plays out will be very interesting because winning makes a lot of shit go away.

McNabb will always have his Chunky Family credibility..

Donovan's Stats

He's got an 84.1 passer rating... (That's average or just slightly above). If he won more Big games, 84.1 would be good enough. He hasn't though and that's the knock on Donovan.

and now the knock on Donovan is his image and that interview did nothing to help his image. He should have kept quiet, instead he opened his pie hole...
