Vince Young.......Rainman?????

Post by T REX »

VINCE'S PICK-SIX IS CONFIRMED

We've confirmed that Texas quarterback Vince Young has indeed scored a measly six on the Wonderlic test, administered annually to the potential members of the draft class at the scouting combine.

Said one league insider, "It's also the number of the round he'll be drafted in."

There's a significant buzz in Indy regarding the ridiculously low marks. Though we're not quite sure that there's much of a correlation between book smarts and football ability, we've got a feeling that, of all positions, quarterback is the one that requires at least some basic cognitive ability.

Unless, of course, the offense consists of making one read and then pulling the ball down and running -- which is the very approach the team that drafts Young might have to employ.

Though the suggestion that Young will last until round six is an exaggeration, the thinking is that he lost millions of dollars via his poor performance on the test, and that it's now a virtual certainty that Vanderbilt quarterback Jay Cutler will pass him in round one.

A fucking six? Yeah, he'll do real well. :meds:

actually, what's really funny is the equation of the Wunderlic and "book smarts".

the first dozen Wunderlic questions are essentially: "if your phone number is 443-1488, then what is your phone number?"

Mace: I think the Iowa rb's first name was Fred.

In 1997 the Bengals drafted the "dumbest" player in the draft, and that's no joke. Each year, NFL teams put prospective players through a variety of physical, emotional, andeducational tests called the NFL Combine. At the Combine an IQ test is given to each of theinvited players to judge their given intelligence. Reinard Wilson who was regarded as an exceptional defensive end from Florida State University, with good speed off the edge, and an inability to be blocked by skill position players (The Sporting News) scored the lowest of all 300 athletes given the test with a score of 4 out of a possible 50 on the Wonderlic IQ test. Nevertheless, Cincinnati gambled on this player and has yet to see their gamble pay off.

And thats why you are our bitch. You take every thread and turn it into a FSU bashing opportunity. Yes, Reinard scored a 4, which is mind blowing, but FSU or Wilson wasnt the topic. Reinard wasnt going to be a 1st Round pick anyway. VY on the other hand is being touted as the best athlete in the draft, the 2nd best QB and a lock for a Top 3 pick. As a QB, the ability to think on your feet and go through diff reads and the ability to audible is crucial. VY scoring a 6, makes it look unlikely that he will be able to break down defenses and hang in the pocket if he cant even answer more than 6 questions correctly on the Wonderlic.

Is the Wonderlic multiple choice? If so, the law of averages says you should score 10-13 even if you don't know any of the answers. So not only is VY dumb, but he's incredibly unlucky to boot...

Huh? You called out Frank Gore....another player when you should have used the Reinard Wilson line. Don't get your labias in a wad because a FSU player has the worst of all-time. Nice job.

Furthermore.....you say FSU and Wilson was NOT the topic yet you fired the Gore salvo. Uhhhhh........yeah, make fun of everyone else just not FSU????

Somehow YOU calling ME a bitch is laughable.

i think the wunderlic "ends" when you answer a question incorrectly....such that if you score 18...it means you answered the first 18 questions correctly.

COMBINE OFFICIAL SCREWED UP VINCE'S WONDERLIC

A league source tells us that Texas quarterback Vince Young indeed scored a six on the Wonderlic test on Saturday -- but that the guy who graded the test screwed the thing up when totaling the number of right answers.

Combine officials, we're told, have re-scored the Young's test and the test of all other players who took it in his group. NFL teams will get the official Wonderlic results for all players later in the week.

On Saturday, there was widespread chatter at the combine that Young got only six out of 50 questions right on the standard test used by the NFL to gauge player intelligence. The Nashville Tennessean corroborated the reports of the low score in its Sunday edition.

From http://www.profootballtalk.com
This from our local AM Morning Sports radio guy in Houston...
From Hornfans. Poster is lance from 610 am

http://forums.hornfans.com/php/wwwt...5&o=0&fpart=all

Here is what I heard and I will combine the info from both sources into one piece of info:

The person who leaked VY's score was wrong. The test had not been graded at that time. That same person was fired. Apparantly Mack Brown raised holy hell about the entire situation as he was furious that VY's score had been leaked in the first place.

The person who leaked the info had to apologize to Mack Brown and a number of people. I have heard what VY's score is but I must keep it quiet as I was given the info "off the record". The info I have is supposedly rock-solid and will be released publically when the teams get all of the player's Wunderlich scores. I can say that his score is still considered " a concern" for some NFL teams but it should also be noted that the score is higher than Hall of Fame QB Dan Marino scored on his Wunderlich test and higher than Super Bowl QBs Neil O'Donnell and Steve McNair.

I am wondering what this damn test has to do with football.

You dont make them take tests all through school, pass them because they are your star player and then all of a sudden people expect the mother fucker to know what the alphabet is...

Can he throw? Yep
Can he run? Yep
Can he come from behind and beat the greatest team of all time in the last 5 mins down 12 by himself? Yep

He beat USC. God damn. USC. I still dont believe it. I thought USC was about to invade North Korea and dominate and then all of a sudden...bam...VY all up on ya.......

I have no idea where I am going with this.

The Wonderlic is a 50 question, multiple choice, timed test. The questions get gradually harder, and you only have 12 minutes to take the test. It's supposed to be a sample IQ test, and there is a sliding scale chart out there telling what profession falls into what scoring range.

Well, according to that scale, Vince Young is qualified to take out the scraps of paper used to answer the math questions after other, smarter, people take that test.

By the way, for most people of not dumb stature, a perfect score on the "real" Wonderlic isn't uncommon.

...or maybe it's just me.

Untimed, I agree. But it's the 12 minutes that really screws with people. The first time I had to take it, I was humming along and they came back in the room to tell me 12 minutes was up. I couldn't have a watch or any type of clock in the room, so I only got through about 35 or 36 of the questions.

Here are some key points...

VY did score a six on his first test.
Mack is in a tizzy because it would draw question as to how Vince stayed eligible with the IQ of a Tulip.
The cover up is on and Young is planning on taking the test for a third time.
Young is using a family friend and not an actual agent...this is relevant in that most agents prepare their clients for these tests.

None of this takes away from Young's performance on the field in his collegiate career (except how he stayed eligible). It does however add to the speculation of many on this board, me included, that doubt that Young's skills will translate to NFL greatness.

Add the Wonderlic Test to the list of "things" in the combine that potential top picks will no longer participate in beginning next year.

So...next year's combine...

Brady Quinn, potential top pick, will not throw, will not run, will not take the Wonderlic, will not lift, etc.

The Combine is no longer relavant.

This has to be one of the most idiotic posts that I have ever read. Give your source where it says that he got that score. Give us a copy of the graded test that shows he scored a 6. If you son't have it, STFU.

Also, I don't see how this test will make you a pro athlete. So when he signs his huge contract and is winning games in the NFL, do you really think they care what he scored on the Wonderlic test????
