Welcome to the New Reich (Spellcheck courtesy of PSU)
Where children turn in their teachers to the thought police.
But I bet he would have been fine if he were teaching "alternatives" to evolution.

No, there would have been some wacko kid/parent complaining about that as well.BSmack wrote:Where children turn in their teachers to the thought police.

Can't have kids thinking for themselves.Towards the end of the class, Bennish goes on to say, "I'm not in anyway implying that you should agree with me, I don't even know if I'm necessarily taking a position. But what I'm trying to get you to do is to think about these issues more in depth and not to just take thinks from the surface."

That isn't what he is doing. 99% of the time a statement like that is made in the classroom getting kids to follow their train of thought is excatly what they were doing. He doesn't want them to think more on the issues he wants hem to agree with him.The Whistle Is Screaming wrote:No, there would have been some wacko kid/parent complaining about that as well.BSmack wrote:Where children turn in their teachers to the thought police.

If that's a reportable offense, then education is dead. I feel badly for my children, and for their children to come.I'm not in anyway implying that you should agree with me, I don't even know if I'm necessarily taking a position. WOW. Such a double standard when it comes to the Left on this board. Its a geography class. A Bush/Hitler comparison does not fit into the discussion and comparing Bush to Hitler is unexcusable. That teacher has an agenda and it is Anti-American, and no way should those kids have to listen to his attempts to brainwash them into thinking his way.

My son's American history teacher is a great American. She doesn't teach necessarily to the level of rigor I'd like to see. Instead of the U.S. Constitution let's do the same state capitals dittos I taught 5th graders 25 years ago. But she does remind the kids that there's a great show on television now, Monday nights at 9:00 p.m. on Fox. It's called '24'. "It's so realistic. Jack Bauer is a patriot."

Talk about your double standards, Crown. Considering the manner in which the Right bastardizes Hillary's first name, they have no standing to complain about any comparison to Hitler.Cicero wrote:BSmack wrote:Where children turn in their teachers to the thought police.

His comments really had no place in a geography class, but giving him more than a slap on the wrist is bullshit."I'm not saying Bush and Hitler are exactly the same, obviously they're not. OK? But there are some eerie similarities to the tones that they use," says Bennish in his critique of U.S. economic and foreign policy.
Towards the end of the class, Bennish goes on to say, "I'm not in anyway implying that you should agree with me, I don't even know if I'm necessarily taking a position. But what I'm trying to get you to do is to think about these issues more in depth and not to just take things from the surface."

BTW: Drudge had a link to an MP3 of the full tape. For some reason that link is no longer valid. It runs about 20 minutes. I listened to it on my way to work this morning. In no way, shape or form was that teacher out of line. Nor would he have been out of line had his lecture been about the merits of our imperialist foreign policy. He did not browbeat students who disagreed with him. Nor he did not tell students that his opinion was a matter of fact. All I heard was a teacher who was trying to make his students think outside their little prefab mental box.
Fire him? Reprimand him?
Hell, I'd give him a raise.

Okay, one more time. It's a very simple question.
What relevance do Bushitler bombs have in the context of a high-school world geography class?
The correct answer is "none". Which is also, incidentally, the answer to the question "What does an extended discussion on how great Dubya and Reagan were, and which one was better, have to that same class?" It's not a matter of agreeing with one or the other. It's that whether you agree with the one or the other, neither really adds to the class' understanding of geography, and that therefore neither belongs in the mix. Teach class in class, and leave the bullshit editorial commentary for lunch, recess and after school.
