When free agency began Friday night, safety Marlon McCree had seven teams schedule visits with him in hopes of luring the young ball hawk to their organization. McCree need just one trip to decide where he’ll continue his football career.
The Chargers wanted McCree, and McCree wanted to be a Charger, so it took little time for the two sides to agree to terms on a five-year contract to bring the veteran of five NFL seasons to San Diego.
“I’m glad to be a part of this organization,” McCree said. “I had a lot of teams that were interested in me, but I made San Diego my first trip and they didn’t let me get away. The Chargers are a playoff-bound team. They have a great opportunity to win the Super Bowl. I think they represent a winning organization. They have all the pieces in place. I’m happy, thrilled and honored that they also had interest in me to come in and help this organization win a championship.”
