i'm not disagreeing with anybody, have you ever had carolina pulled pork with vinegar? a lot of "texas BBQ" is half-assed smoked beef ribs basically with ketchup on it.
Where the hell did you eat your BBQ? Please tell so I never go there.

I prefer smoked brisket I have a very nice rub that beats any brine I've ever used. I smoke my brisket about 20 hours. The real secret to a great brisket is the cut. depending on how moist the brisket is you can cut it pretty thin but it has to be cut against the grain for the best texture.

I don't know what your definition of modern era is, but I think Joe Montana would be a better candidate. Devine and Montana didn't get along, which led to much of Joe's time on the bench.

Montana was Montana, but I think Tony Rice won more big games and went what 23-1 as a starter?

Rice was 24-1 his last two years, including wins over many highly ranked teams. He was 7-4 as a starter in '87 (that's off the top of my head. Anderzack was hurt early in the '87 season forcing Rice to start.)

Montana was jerked around by Devine, who didn't like him for some reason. The only reason Montana even played in '77 was because the two QB's ahead of him went down. Devine would throw him in there after Lisch or someone else built up a huge deficit, and Joe would lead them back.

He is a very underrated college QB.

-edit-

But don't get me wrong, I love Tony. He will always be one of my favorite players. Watching him put his team on his back and will them to win against USC in '89 was awesome.

One of the most overrated players to ever play in the NFL, possibly.

So Namath is a Hall of Fame, "superstar" QB because he predicted a Super Bowl upset?

Your point was the "not much humility" angle, and how it played into being a superstar QB.

My point is that Namath is one of the most overrated players in the history of any sport.

The only comparison between Tony Rice and Vince Young is the color of thier skin. Besides the fact that Vince is bigger stronger faster and both runs and throws better, the biggest difference is that both ND and Texas were filled with stars, Tony Rice was often overshadowed by other stars, Vince completely overshadowed all the other stars on the Texas roster. Texas has a lot of NFL talent but last year all of them were overshadowed by the greatness of Vince Young. I don't remember Tony Rice playing a down of QB in the NFL, Vince will.

There is no comparison to Vince Young, if he succeeds he will revolutionize the position in the NFL much like Michael Jordan did for the 2 guard in the NBA

Take of your fucking homer hat for one post Vito.

Rice and Young were/are both run first, throw second QB's who struggled with throwing the ball. When Rice did have to throw, he was very efficient because of the threat he constantly created by running the ball. Young is taller, and I bet it would be a toss-up as to who was faster.

Young, Vick, et. all are able to play "a down in the NFL" because of the likes of Tony Rice, McNabb, Frazier, Holloway, and Turner Gill. 15 year ago, VY would have been a late round pick, no matter how well he played last season. And if Tony Rice was playing today, he would be drafted and get a chance to be a starting QB in the NFL, just like Vince.

Tony Rice wasn't overshadowed on offense very often. Ricky Watters and Rocket made their name in their return abilities. Watters was a WR in '88 and moved back to TB in '89 after Tony Brooks was suspended for the year. Rice was what made that team go.

If VY succeeds, he won't do shit for the QB position. If he succeeds, it will be because of his throwing ability. The league is littered with 6'5" dudes who can throw.

This is whacked beyond normal comprehension. You have lost it.

Dude, shut your freaking whacked out piehole! Comparing a QB with shoddy mechanics that ran an option-shotgun offense to one of the greatest athletes in any sport of all-time is fucking inexcusable.

You should be ripped to shreds on this board.

That is board bitch material. You are the obvious front runner for 2006.

I've been making the Jordan reference since before last year. So far Vince hasn't let me down, no one was dominated the game like Vince, he dominated the game much like Jordan did. He has a will to win that reminds me of Jordan, and he makes people around him better much like Jordan did.

And if he does in the NFL what he did in college he will be compared to Jordan.

BTW trix, you are the ultimate bitch, I like how Urban runs almost the same exact offense and it made Alex Smith the #1 pick but because we are talking Texas and not the Gaytors then it is overrated. Try keeping your story straight.

BTW Killian, I don't need homer glasses to know greatness when I see it. Rice was good but never great, Tommie Frazier was greatness but never got the chance to throw the ball. Vince is pure greatness. If Tony Rice played for Texas in 2k6 it would have been as a WR. Tony Rice was a option QB Vince is not, neither is Vince a run first QB, he is a run after all his passing options are covered. Take it from someone who actually wanted him to run more than he did.

And if Vince played for ND in '88, or most any team other than Texas in '05, he would have been a WR.

And I guess if Rice wasn't "great", you have a fucked up view of "great". In his last two years, Rice was 24-1 including wins over two #1 teams, two wins over #2 teams, and at least one win over a #3 team. He beat the best team of the 80's (Miami) and passed for over 250 yards while doing it. He may have been an option QB, but he could thow every bit as good as Vince can.

When Vince was recruited, he was a run first QB. The only time he has ever been a thrower has been this past season. One year he has had where he has actually beat some teams with his arm. And his best passing year, came out of the shotgun. An offense that also ran some spread option. So Vince may not be an option QB, per se, but he's similar to Vick coming out of college. A ton of upside, little production in an NFL offense.

Making others around you doesn't mean you are destined for greatness, or that you are going to revolutionalize a position. Look at John Wallace and what he did for Syracuse in '95-'96. He was a fucking bust in the NBA.

You didn't like my Tony Rice comparison, fine. How about Daunte Culpepper? He's bigger than Vince, can throw better than Vince, made everyone on his college team better, and he can run, too. He isn't as fast as Vince, but he's closer to Vince in speed than Vince is to him in the throwing department.

Daunte hasn't exactly lit the NFL on fire. Especially after he lost one of the most talanted WR's in the history of football.

Uhhhh......i'll bite. When did I say that Alex Smith was all that? When did I say that the Texas offense was overrated? I would EXPECT Urban's offense to FAIL miserably a la Spurrier's in the NFL. Just isn't made for the pros. Texas's offense would bomb in the pros as well.

Try keeping your mouth shut.....post less.

All this talk of VY greatness has me feeling REALLY good about an A&M defense that sucked the discarded balls of castrated poodles.

Vince Almighty threw for 162 yards against one of the worst defenses in college football. He was also 13 for 24, with one interception. He is human, and he won't be bouncing off DBs in the NFL.

VY played behind THE BEST OL AND with (possibly) the best defense in college football. He had some help along the way.

He is a superb improviser and a tremendous athlete. Let's not get carried away, Bill.

Actually both, I've said Texas had some good receivers but they were young, well one came on early last year and the others started to come on late. Now our receiving corp is a strenght of our offense. The talent was always there it was just young.

RB is obvious, Vince rushed for more yards than any other RB on the team but that doesn't take away the fact that Romonce Taylor and J Charles aren't badasses, but had injuries at different points of the season.

What makes you think Leak can read a defense better than Vince? I think Vince threw 12 ints all year last year and he lead the entire NCAA in passing efficiency.

Vince did choke in the Aggsy game but it wasn't just him, the entire team took them too lightly. If Texas came into T+1 with the same attitude they did in the RRR or against tOSU that game would have probably ended up a little different. Still props to the aggies for putting up a hell of a fight and basically eliminating Vince from the Heisman.

VY is going to get his shot. What he does with it is debatable. Tommie Frazier was a great college QB in his system. He got 2 crystal trophies (damn near a third) to prove it. None of it meant shit in the NFL and neither does Vince's college greatness.

I think it's going to be fun to watch whatever happens. I'll root for Vince just to see the looks on USCPN's faces if he succeeds and that QB Whatshisname from USC is a bust.

I don't care how fast the DB's are in the NFL. Young scrimmaged against speed everyday in practice at TU. It will be nothing new to him and he's still 6' 13" tall and has that freak ability.
