Local Radio Stations and their relationship with the progam

The Ann Arbor sports station fired their afternoon drive time host on Friday. Rumors are he was fired for being too critical of the basketball coach. I know that WTKA's existance is pretty much based on their relationship with the Univserity of Michigan, but I have a major problem with the University censoring radio staff directly or indirectly.

I am still trying to find out whether this is true or not, but I am curious if this is common in smaller college towns.

Fithian was fired? Wow. I liked turning him on in the summer when he was talking college football. He seemed a little homer on the football side, so this is a little bit of a shock.

yeah, I am kind of pissed off about the whole thing. Dennis is a solid guy and he was always cool to me, we drank together...they brought in this Specs Howard Hack.

I don't hear much of the Ann Arbor station other then when I'm passing through for a game in Detroit. That station usually spends most of its time blowing sunshine up Big Blue's ass...shame on them for getting a guy fired for having an actual opinion. Being supportive is one thing but being ass kissing myopian is another.

No concerns about this in Colorado. The way the Denver media treats the Buffs, you'd think they'd get fired for writing/saying something positive about the team.

Yeah, bigger cities are different. The Detroit media markets have no reason to blow Michigan or MSU.

They are too busy blowing their play-by-play team.

Occasionally during the season I'll web stream the State College locals...I went to HS with one of the guys who does the PSU football call-in show, he's pretty lightweight though. The other dude's an OSU grad, and does a good job of staying neutral in discussions. Sometimes the PSU "guru" is entertaining. I don't see any of these dudes ever losing their jobs due to cracking on the program.

From what I can tell, the most vociferous PSU fans, those who will boycott newspapers for daring to post something less than adulatory about Joe Paterno, are not necessarily in thick numbers in State College. It's not really a big town, though.

Here in Minnesota no one cares enough about the Goofers to be critical, outside of hockey they are hardly even recognized as having D1-A sports.

In Austin, the programing is filled with UT homers, the closest they have to a critical DJ is the bucky and Erin morning show and even they are pretty mellow.

Soto is a Trojan and one of the dumbest people in the business. She's constantly asking producers and other people what questions to ask when doing an interview. There are two reasons she is where she is. Most of the people at Fox are condom homers too so go figure it out......she's arrogant as all hell too and not very good at what she does.
