I was a head coach at a high school for a few years and I broke down what I made per hour for the time I put in... 25 cents an hour for my time based on the many hours invloved. They asked me to come back a couple of years ago. ![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)

I was assistant coach for 3 years. We never heard of such a thing. The coach was under contract, he was a teacher and was paid for that, but he would have been way over 40 hours per week.
A couple of things here might work for you....
1. If they require a time sheet, and subject you to hour restrictions, and you are considered a salaried employee of the District, then in theroy you would be eligible for the same gravy train benifits the teachers are, so in your case you could be duble dipping.
2. The Distirct may want to recosndier this senseless bullshit before it costs them a lot more money than the pencil geeks think it is saving them.

Re: Any other high school coaches in here?
Translation: I've been waiting forever for an excuse to announce that I'm a high school baseball coach. Actually, a girls softball coach. Well, really I'm the first base coach for a t-ball winter league team. Actually, I just play catch with the neighborhood kids in my yard.Mace wrote:Our school is now requiring that all coaches turn in timesheets to document their hours during their season. I signed a contract last year and will get paid from April to June, and am a salaried employee of the school, but they say they are now requiring timesheets to make sure coaches are not working over 40 hours a week and that they are entitled to overtime pay if they do. This will be one extra large pain in the ass. I don't do this for the money but it might be interesting to see exactly how much an hour I'm getting paid......probably under a dollar an hour if I counted the hours put into the program over 12 months.
Do other schools require timesheets from coaches?

You don't coach for the money. Anyone that does is also a lottery player hoping to score that big ticket at the liquor store.
Coaching is a lot of fun regardless of the politics. There are a few negative aspects, but it's like anything in life. The nice thing is being able to go to coaching clinics and learning from college coaches and a few pros. You take that knowledge and skills and simplify it into basics for the youngsters.
I don't know about you other coaches, but game time is very stressful because you want them to take everything they've been taught and do to the best of their abilities. Practices are fun because you are teaching. Game time? Talk about having butterflies.

Salaried employees aren't entitled to overtime, Mace. Your school district obviously has a bunch of clueless dumbfucks running the payroll dept.

Not quite. Depends on the state and how the laws are interpreted. And you HAVE to report every employees hours for workmens compensation, regardless of their pay structure. I know, I am having a workmens comp audit this week.Salaried employees aren't entitled to overtime, Mace. Your school district obviously has a bunch of clueless dumbfucks running the payroll dept.
Most school districts are very carefull about time accounting. They may not pay over tiume, but comp time is often used.

We have workers comp audits EVERY year and all they look at is total compensation per employee and what hazard classification each employee is in. Hours worked doesn't have a fucking thing to do with anything as far as they're concerned

I know it would be immoral, but let's say you were a coach on a chicks volleyball team or tennis team or something. Nothing all dyked out like softball or basketball, but a sport with hawt nubile kittens. If you only put like seniors that had flunked a grade or something on your team so that they were all 18, could you shower with them? Would that be illegal if they were down? I'd like to give back to my community.

No, you don't. There's a reason why they're called "exempt employees".Derron wrote:Not quite. Depends on the state and how the laws are interpreted. Maybe in your state cock smoker. But in my state, they go by hours, they go by wages, and they require time sheets, 941 quarterly's and all kinds of other shit.We have workers comp audits EVERY year and all they look at is total compensation per employee and what hazard classification each employee is in. Hours worked doesn't have a fucking thing to do with anything as far as they're concerned
And that is exactly what the auditor told me last week. I don.t care how much you paid them, I need hours broken down in hazard catagory.
Well then since you fucking jailhouse labor lawyers know so much, then if they are exempt from overtime, why would they require a time accounting ?? Huh ... They are exempt and they don't need the hours for the WC.... so why the fuck would they have to have the hours reported......??? Got to be some reason maybe ??No, you don't. There's a reason why they're called "exempt employees".
Go back and punch your time clock at Mcikey D's and stay the fuck out of things you havn't go a fucking clue about.

I don't, man. Just feels like a scam, why should salaried persons be forced to account for all of their time? Overtime is the bait, but what's it being switched with?mvscal wrote:Mace wrote:Be wary of what?Risa wrote: ulterior motive.

cuz this is a school district, not the corrections or police department. do schools hand out the overtime money as if it were free coke on the school yards? no.
so who is this shit really being tallied up for? what's the true agenda here?

You and your fellow ditch-diggers are non-exempt employees. That's why they require a time accounting. Exempt employees are generally assumed to be full-time, and their hours aren't clocked.Derron wrote:Maybe in your state cock smoker. Because "salary" doesn't mean you get paid just for gracing the organization with your presence. The "true agenda" is that nobody owes anybody a damned thing. If somebody is paying someone for a product or service, that person has every right in the world to know exactly what their money is being spent on.
I document all my time to specific tasks. I document "overtime", that would be when a "crisis" manufactured by some executive with his panties in a bunch requires me to go over the 40 hours I'm contracted to work. I don't get paid overtime. But I do get quasi comp time. When I'm having a "crisis", like a vehicle breaking down, they won't bust my chops when I have to come in a little late or leave a little early to handle my business. Since bosses and the like have selective memories, I document it all to let them know our relationship is a symbiotic one with an equal amount of give and take.
The payoff is a steady paycheck every two weeks, when times are busy, busier, and busiest.
I respect entreprenuers who have figured out how to live off last month's earnings because they busted their ass and continue to bust their ass without profit when times are slow. They suit up and show up to work with no gaurunteed paycheck. My financial management skills need work before I can go there. :o

Either your auditor is a cluless dumbfuck like you, or he's just wanting to fuck with you and make you dance a little bit. Either way, there's about a 90% chance he'll fuck the audit up anyhow.Derron wrote:Maybe in your state cock smoker.
