Is this possibly the most complete we've seen the Western Conference from top to bottom? I've been thinking, and there is not one team i would want to play in the playoffs. I don't think there is any series in the playoffs where you could say that one team is the heavy favorite. I can't wait for the playoffs.

Let me commemorate my first agreement with you on these boards by disagreeing with your second point... after seeing that Konstantin Pushkarev occupies a roster spot with the Los Angeles Kings, I think that's a team I wouldn't mind playing in the first round.silkyjohnson13 wrote:Is this possibly the most complete we've seen the Western Conference from top to bottom? The rest of the teams are disasters waiting to happen for any of the top seeds.
The thing about today's NHL (and I mean the one that's existed for the past 5 or 6 years, not the "new" NHL), is that being at the top of the standings at year's end only means you put together the most consistent regular season. It doesn't necessarily make you the best team. Detroit will have as much trouble with the 8 seed as Nashville will have with the 5 seed.
We should be treated to some big matchups up to and including the first round.

I agree it's been like that for the past few seasons, and i also agree that LA is a team that i would not mind playing. But, i personally don't think LA is making the playoffs. They're in the 10th spot right now and they don't have any games in hand on anybody. I think San Jose gets in, and either Vancouver or Edmonton falls out.

Stop gumming up my thread! :x
Back to the topic at hand.......the Calgary Shames are on the eve of one of the most historic regular season choke jobs of all time.
13 games left, 4 pts. away from missing the playoffs completely. All the while shamefan puffs up his chest and bellows contemptuously....
braggahbrahhg.....schedule.....bragh
Braagghhabrrbra.....Darryl Sutter.....
brrgaggbragg.....heart.....blarghhblarr......desire....brarggag
I will look for you to get your serious grip on should you fall to the Kings.
So close........
In other news, local shower rod stocks have risen slightly.

Nice to see so confident shamefan......but then, the captain always goesdown with the bandwagoneEEEEERRRRRR I mean ship.
right?

Flames will win the division and you will never stop trolling... two facts.
Now that's not fair.al? wrote:stupid bandwagoning town.
I know that's not aimed at the guys in here, we've been with the team through thick and thin... mostly thin since the internet was invented.
But you gotta remember that this city was almost half of it's current size the last time the Flames give us something to cheer about. Nearly half a million people have had no reason to jump on the Flames bandwagon until 2004. When it happened, they jumped. Fans gotta start somewhere.
What will be telling is what happens next time the Flames take a dump. If the Saddledome empties out, you can start screaming bandwagoner again.

I'm sure the fact they had played 3 games in 4 nights had nothing to do with it, not to mention they were up against the top team in the league.
They got another win tonight... Phaneuf got a goal to set the team record for rookie goal scoring. Kipper is on the verge of setting the team record for wins. They're five points up on the Avs with half a dozen games remaining. Yup, sure sucks to be a Flames fan right about now.

Bad losses for Nashville and Colorado tonight...the Flames took care of business, no surprise and they've pretty much got the Northwest locked up. Probably one more win will put it out of reach for good and the Avs have only one more game head-to-head with the Flames but the division might be decided by then. Down the stretch, you have to win games against teams you're better than and also win the games at home...you can't give away those easy point opportunities. The Predators drop a game in Chicago with Anaheim breathing down their necks for 4th place. The Avs lose at home against the Sharks...a huge win for San Jose which puts more pressure on the Canucks and the Kings, who both sit on the outside looking in and with fewer games remaining than the rest of the field. Both clubs probably need no fewer than 8 points in their final 5 games each to even have a chance at making the playoffs.
The Sharks have two games in hand on the Kings and Canucks...they can go 4-3 and probably be in solid shape to get in. That would force Los Angeles and Vancouver to win 4 of 5 to keep pace and the Kings are two back of the Canucks and Sharks so they have to virtually win all 5 games to stay alive. The Kings and Canucks each have 2 games left with San Jose...pretty much are must wins for Vancouver and Los Angeles. The Sharks can get away with just a split and be in okay shape to wrap up 8th place. All five of the Canucks remaining games are against playoff-contending teams and the Kings have 4 of 5 games against potential playoff teams...not an easy task ahead of either team when they have to play against clubs with just as much at stake as them. This new scheduling format is outstanding for this time of year with all of the head-to-head battles this month...makes these final few weeks a lot more exciting.

Flames can clinch with one SJ loss and one Flames win... That means Saturday at the earliest.
The Canucks are in bad shape. Their fate relies on the play of EDM and SJ too much. Kings are pretty much out of it unless they go 5-0
EDM needs a win and a Vancouver loss to get some breathing room.
Seems like the current TOP 8 will be the playoff teams... with SJ, EDM jokeying for postion 7 and 8 and the AVs, NSH and ANA fighting it out for 4,5,6. Dallas still has a shot at catching Detroit for 1st overall.
The first round teams to avoid are SJ and Ana in my opinion. I think the Avs and Oilers are the teams to play i think.
If I were the Flames i would want to play the AVS.... The oilers would be ok, but i think nukes would start to fly and Red Deer would be wiped off the map.

And by the way, the Stars have a very slim chance at catching the Wings for #1 in the West. The Wings are up 9 points with each team having 7 games left. They do have one head-to-head meeting left...that one is in Detroit though. The Wings have 4 games left against the three doormats of the Central. Their other three games are the one with Dallas, a home game against the Oilers and at Nashville. They pretty much need two more wins to clinch the 1st seed because that would mean Dallas would have to win out to pass them. I don't see the Wings going worse than 4-3 in those final seven so that should preserve their position with room to spare.
Can you hear me now?
Take Miikka Kiprusoff out of the Calgary Flames lineup and try to picture how far out of the west playoff race the league's fourth-lowest scoring team would be.
Wow. You share the opinion of Eric Francis.
So much for your credibility!!
So are you going to take Montreal's Stanley Cups in '86 and '93 away too? I mean, where would they have been without Patty Roy?
The only goal in hockey is to score more than your opponent. The Flames are able to do that on most nights. Get over it.

We'll see where my credibility is when Kiprusoff wins the Hart and Vezina (like I said) and the shames tank when he goes down or he doesn't steal a game (like I said).
As for Montreal.... aside from game 4 in L.A, it was a team effort.
Why don't you just sac-up and admit Calgary is a bottom feeder without Kiprusoff; or are you still being choosey with your hypotheticals?
o wait, you did.......your sig,
my bad
BTW.......Francis has a talk show and a news column........what do you have besides a terrible case of red-eye?

How is the Flames' record not a team effort again? Thank you for making my point for me.As for Montreal.... aside from game 4 in L.A, it was a team effort.
Missing the red-eye comment.... is that supposed to be some reference to myopia?
