Moulds to Houston?

That's what the sports hacks are reporting.

I haven't bothered to check what he's getting paid, but I hear that the Bills are looking for either a 4th or 5th round draft pick as compensation.

Dude was a good soldier and rarely bitched about the crap he was dealt. The guy had some of the crappiest QB's throw to him and some of the stupidest head coaches calling plays.

He deserved better.

That's what's being reported here in H town. The hang up is the round of the draft choice and that it will be completed early this week.

If they get Moulds, Houston has had one of the better offseasons as far as addressing needs

Overpaying for a washed up WR is having a good offseason? Moulds is done. The Texans don't need to be wasting any money or draft picks on a guy like Moulds.

Needs? What have they done to address their offensive line? I don't care if you have Johnny-U as your QB, Jerry Rice as your #1, Art Monk as your #2, and Barry Sanders as your running back.... when your QB is sacked 60+ times a year- it won't fuckin' matter. They are overpaying for a 33 year old receiver and their line still sucks. They'll draft Bush.. and still suck b/c they have no line. Their only prayer is too trade down and build their line.

Moulds is far from done. If you had seen the missing synaptic link known as J.P. Losman throwing Moulds the ball last year, you would know better. Even with the abortion of a season going on around him, Moulds still managed to catch 81 balls and watch at least 40 more fly 10 feet over his head.

They have a lot more needs than just O line..and they did sign Flanagan from GBay.

Did I say they had completely addressed everything? No..

Just got the news (via my NFL Mac OSX "widget") that the Bills are looking to get rid of JP Losman

So much for all that talk of giving the kid a chance. Personally, I was never sure if Losman would have done much better even with a functional O-line. He had an annoying habit of sailing passes too high or wide even when he was given that rare bit of decent protection.

Anybody want an overrated young QB? Cheap?

At least he seemed smarter than Spicoli and had a better work ethic...

And he wasn't a locker room cancer like Flutie..

Uh, no Jim, I didn't say that.

Needs addressed:

D Line: Anthony Weaver, ND Kalu
O Line: Flanagan
2nd WR: Moulds (probably)
LB: Sam Cowart

All of that together, to me, is having a good offseason, to date.. And apparently we differ on whether Moulds is done or not. Thats fine. He will help take the pressure off their #1 receiver.

How's Philly's offseason going?

The Texans DID sign C Mike Flanagan away from the Packers. Definite upgrade. BTW, did you conveniently forget that Gary Kubiak is the new HC there? If ANYBODY in this league knows the importance of good offensive line play, it's Kubiak- he helped coach one of the best O-lines in the game for YEARS in Denver. David Carr has produced when afforded the time to do so, and he has to be jacked up thinking about how much better his guys will be blocking for him this year.

Congrats to the Texans.. 1 spot replaced, 4 to do. I'm sure Carr feels a whole lot better knowing at least the center of the line won't collapse. Kubiak might turn out to be a good coach but he's not going to turn water into wine in TX overnight. You still need talent to win.

His numbers are trending downward.. his hits 1000+ yards every other season and the year before last he just made over 1000 yards. For a guy that's been around for 11 years he does not get into the end zone all that much (48 tds). He's going from one abortion of a qb to another. Moulds isn't going to Houston because he has a shot at a SB. He's going for the $$, plain and simple. Now that he has his $5m, you think he'll be so eager to going into traffic for the ball? I think not.

Moulds' numbers are not necessarily relevant. He'll be the #2 reciever in Houston. If he has 70-80 receptions, 5-8 TDs and anywhere between 900-1100 yards he will be the perfect complement to Andre Johnson. Considering that Carr is light years better than anybody who has lined up under center for Buffalo since Jim Kelly, I think it is safe to assume Moulds is at least capable of equaling, if not bettering his 2004 season. Simply put, the Texans made a pretty shrewd deal getting him for a mid round draft pick.

As for going into traffic, I have seen Moulds play since he was drafted, and not once has anyone in this area ever questioned his heart. If anything, he's going to have a Texas sized chip on his shoulder after the way he was pushed out of Buffalo.

But again- Houston's line is attrocious. Carr may be better- but if he is playing from his ass most of the time. How is he going to get anyone the ball. The only thing they did to help their line was to sign a 33 year old center who has also seen his better days go by...

When was the last time Moulds put up 8tds? He had 10 in 2002. He might get 5 with the Texans. AJ appears to be a solid #1 but he needs to do it for more than 2 season. Moulds still has family in MS so this potential move to TX wasn't exactly against his will. Buffalo asked him to take a pay cut and he refused and he then said he wanted out. That sounds less like he was pushed and more like he and the Bills came a mutual agreement about his future. So I doubt he'll be playing with any chip on his shoulder.

The question is, is Houston's O-Line bad for lack of talent or lack of coaching. Kubiak's record with the running game in Denver tells me that he ought to be able to whip those guys into shape. Also, by adding more offensive options with skill position guys, Houston's offense won't be nearly as predictable as it was last year, when teams were able to pin their eras back and tackle Domanik Davis on their way to the quarterback.

That wasn't what I heard. And if you're hearing differently it is because you're listening to the voices in your head. Moulds got into it with one of his coaches and Mularkey/Donahoe overreacted. According to Moulds, he felt pain in his Achilles and wanted a trainer to take a look at it. Meanwhile, recievers coach Tyke Tolbert wanted Moulds to go back in the game. Considering the absolute clusterfuck that was the Buffalo Bills last year, I'm only surprised that a player didn't take a swing at one of the coaches. It was seriously THAT BAD. Even I was starting to feel sorry for the Bills fans I know.

Even 5 TDs wouldn't be horrible if he's taking pressure off Andre Johnson and making catches in between the 20s. Which I think he is more than capable of doing. Also, let's not forget that Johnson hasn't been overly durable. It is entirely possible that Moulds could be pressed into the #1 position before this year is out.

And make no mistake about it, Moulds was pushed out of Buffalo. The Bills wanted to part of paying Moulds market value. Considering what some #2 guys are getting paid this year, 5 million a year is bargain basement.
