Father was a lecturer at the USMA for a year and I think Virginia was a slightly more beautiful setting. JMHO.

OK, I don't think we should be picking our team, so:

State College (history)
Michigan (history)
Miami (scenery)
UTexas (party scene/scenery)
Auburn (deep south CFB tradition)

Why not?

I didn't play football at ND, but I'd be lying if I said that ND's football team didn't play a role in recruiting me to go there.

Auburn? Auburn???

Been to their campus Chief? I mean don't get me wrong they have some good looking girls. My wife was raised an Auburn girl. But if southern girls are what you are looking for you should be joining me on my trip to Tuscaloosa, take my word on it.
You're high. Tuscaloosa is a pit and I can personally attest from extensive investigation of both that the Auburn girls easily smoke anything the crapstone is capable of.

If you're looking for a heavy balance of hot southern co-eds, Ole Miss actually seems to hold the rep along those lines.

I live less than an hour away from Auburn and half my in laws are from both. It's been my expeirience that the Bama girls are far more pleasing to the eyes. I have heard the same things about Ole Miss as well and there were more than a few hotties at the Independance Bowl in 1999.

Are you kidding me? Maybe you were dropped as a baby, teen, and adult. The campus at West Point is one of the most picturesque places to visit. Miche Stadium, the Hudson river, the views, the campus. Give me a break. I've been to Pepperdine many times and yes it's a beautiful campus but not like West Point.

Next thing you're going to tell me that $C is in a good neighborhood.

USC is downtown of a major city, nothing downtown in a major city is going to be picturesque but the cliffs of Malibu, the bikinis, beach houses, beautiful people and sun sets into the Pacific Ocean piss all over anything in pastey skinned, gray skied, snow covered New York

You can tell this man has probably never left the Los Angeles area and certainly never been to New York. There is a lot more in New Yark than NYC and most of the state is pretty damn beautiful.

Having been to both, I will take Army. Nothing like a late Saturday afternoon with the fall color and the river, oh yeah, and some football too.

SunCoast,

Yeah, exactly like Atlanta. Some great cornerback and mediocre baseball player used to run out to the outfield doing the chop. Seems to have caught on quite well.

Coupla thoughts on the thread so far:

First, with respect to this:

Gotta agree with SCS on this one. I'm not a betting man, but if I were, it'd be better than even money that SoCalTrjn has never left the LA area, or if he has, that it was in conjunction with a USC road/bowl game. As for his contact with New York, it would appear that perhaps he has seen a few photos of midtown Manhattan, perhaps from a AAA travel guide or the internet, and concluded from that that all of New York State looks like that.

Having said all of that, I'm not in position to weigh in on the relative beauty of the Pepperdine and West Point campuses, because I've never been to West Point, believe it or not, even though it's within about 300 miles or so of where I live, and a couple of my high school classmates, including one of my best friends from high school, went there. Of course, if we're talking about the perspective of a big-time football recruit, I'm not even sure why Pepperdine is part of the discussion, since there's no football team there. For that matter, I could even make an argument that Army should not be part of the discussion. Even though I served four years in the Navy pursuant to a NROTC scholarship, I wouldn't have done that if another realistic option, such as a football scholarship, had been available to me. Then again, that's just me, I realize others might feel differently.

Second, given the amount of hatred ND engenders on this board, I'm a little shocked to see ND on so many lists here. I don't think everybody put ND on their list just so they could give ND the finger, figuratively speaking.

Third, I would have been SoCalTrjn's biggest nightmare as a recruit, given that all of my official visits would have been out of state. :D

I was a 1 to 2 star football player and did make visits.

Mine were
Houston (local. Wanted me to walk on)
Rice (Dad worked there. Wanted me to walk on)
Trinity (Great DIII school/program. Too much $$$)
Hardin-Simmons (Great NAIA DII school. Forked over the CASH)
Penn (Wanted me to visit but I didn't go/TOO FAR.)

NOW, if I were a 4-5 star player my 5 would have been.

1. Nebraska
2. Nebraska
3. Nebraska
4. Nebraska
5. Nebraska

WHY WOULD I GO ANYWHERE ELSE?

I have been to most of the states in this nation, New York a few times, both NYC and upstate (Kingston and Binghampton) and though it wasnt bad in the spring Id never want to be stuck there in the winter and it didnt come close to the Malibu.

There are several other places in the nation that are nice but to live somewhere year round, nothing beats Southern California, I see a high temperature in the summer of maybe 84 degrees with no humidity, in the winter it may get down to a brisk 50. I am a 15 minute drive from the beach and a 90 minute drive from snow boarding. 4 or 5 major amusement parks, the nightlife of Los Angeles and the fact that youll never be without something to do makes the area a no brainer.
I realize that the question is where would you want to visit but youre visiting these places with the prospect of going there to live for the next 4 or 5 years and I wouldnt want to live anywhere that might be pretty 3 or 4 months a year and is downright miserable the other 8 to 9
