Texas just about finished recruiting for 2k7

Post by Vito Corleone »

Texas just picked up its 18th commitment for 2k7 and he is a good one. QB John Brantley from Ocala (FL) Trinity Catholic. As of right now Texas has commits from an estimated 2 5-star 13 4-star, and 3-3-star players.

Texas still has 5 more ships offered and leads for 3 of them. As of now they lead for RB Creer, DE R Jones, and OT T Allen. This class is already sick and if they pull in the guys they lead for it will be a better class than the 2k2 class.

Considering Allen said recently that he expects to commit to Texas, I would say that he is all but commited.

Do you know why you guys passed on Terrance Tolliver?

According to the guys on the texas rivals site Tolliver has showed no interest in Texas and he has a lot of work ahead of him just to get past the clearing house.

As for FSU having a higher ranked class, it won't surprise me. Rivals.com and scout.com tend to play a little game of underrating kids who commit early and overrating kids who wait til the end.

I'm just happy that Mack has identified the kids he wants and got most of them. 2 years ago Texas took 15 kids and had a class ranked between 15 and 20. But from that class the coaches have already identified 11 kids that will be major contributors next year. That small low ranked class might be one of the best Mack has ever had.

Recruiting is going to be interesting this year. It seems to be a very strong class.

From what I've heard Stoops is pissed that Brantley chose Texas over blOwU. Stoops knew the Brantley family for many years from back in his Florida days. Stoops was tight with his dad, and high school coaches. Mack coming in and stealing him was a major blow for the spooners.

Killian you are right it is going to be interesting, I'm looking forward to seeing if Texas can keep all these kids, we not going to win another MNC this year.

Most of the B-12 South schools know that they aren't going to beat Texas head to head so they have taken the attitude of just wait for Texas to fill up and then take whats left.

Its a deep year and Texas only has 5 slots left and each one is pretty much guaranteed to someone.

BTW I now hear that Clausen is almost a lock to ND.

i think SCS' point is that you needlessly apply some silly modifier like "my sources" to refer to information that is widely available at places like hornfans.com or any sooner message board. the OU scrimmage thread, for instance.

and, "your sources" totally nailed that AD selling crack rumor (and don't try and weasel out of it....YOU started that thread)....which made your grandstanding lecture to the board about unsubstantiated rumors and VY's wonderlic so typically hypocritical and myopic.

KC your a dumbass, go back and look at the thread I never said it was anything but a rumor. And when I claim a source of a rumor like the Peterson one it is usually a person not a website.

I'm sure that spooners know all about the bitterness but there are those on this page that don't know about the fact that Brantley Sr was close to the Florida program under Spurrier/Stoops and it was stoops who was trying to use this relationship when recruiting John. Then Mack comes in with his shiney new Sears trophy and steals John out from under Stoops.

The funny thing is Brantley didn't even have an offer.

From a source close to the Texas coaching staff (not web site) Texas had told all the QBs they were recruiting that they were planning on taking two QBs this year. They had two offers out to John Chiles and Ryan Mallet. Then John Brantley basically started recruiting Texas he came for an unoffical visit and fell in love with the coaches and the program.

The Texas coaches started building a relationship with the Brantley's and Mack had to make a decision. So he called Mallet and let him know that another blue chip QB wanted to commit and he would honor his promise and not make an offer if he would commit, if he was not ready to commit then Mack told him he was going to make this kid an offer and whoever commits first the other would be out. Brantley committed and now Mallet has opened things up.

Vito have you ever noticed that your own fellow texass fans leave you swinging in the wind?

As far as Brantly is concerned neither the fans or Bob Stoops are any where near the state that you describe. I subscribe to both the major recruiting sites for OU and Brantly has had little more than a couple of token postings at all. Most are to the effect of "who is brantly" and "What are texass' fans talking about". The majority of the focus had been on Austin Box since the day the last class was inked.

As far as everyone else having a wait and see attitude regarding texass, are you this much of a moron, or smoke so much pot that your short term memory won't allow you to recall two years ago when OU pulled the #1 TB, #1 QB, #1 DT, and #1 DB out of the state of texass, didn't think so.

Vito you have no "sources" you have the frigging internet, the same internet that the rest of us have the ability to read. You have never introduced anything original or that didn't center around your misguided theory that Austin is the center of the universe or that Oklahoma is eveil. The one thing in four years that may have been an original thought centered around, yet another, internet rumor that turned out to be blatantly false; ever since you have tried to back pedal from your comments.

You claimed that Texass outspends Oklahoma by extraordinary amounts of money in another thread which is yet another one of your blatant lies. Texass Athletic department outspends Oklahoma by a measly 6 million dollars. You claim that texass has the largest budget by far of any Big 12 school because you sale more Tshirts. :meds: The same NCAA merchandising talley, which is released every summer, Oklahoma has been in the top 5 over every year this century and hasn't been out of the top 10 in as long as I can recall the NCAA releasing these numbers. Nebraska is in the top 10 and OSU & aTm are both in the top 20. I'm sure that the thread from last summer when these numbers were released is still somewhere around this Taco Stand.

Basically Vito you're full of shit and hold little more credibility than Mtool or Jon. There are some hellified homers around these parts but you and Jon definatly have to be the two at the top.

show me where i say you say it wasn't a rumor, if that's your defense and the justification for 3rd grade namecalling (sort of your MO). in fact, you indict yourself vis a vis the second point i make above--though you probably aren't smart enough to realize it. my point is that you chastised others for posting irresponsibly about **a rumor** (VY's alleged "6")....and you did the EXACT same thing 5 months before. yes or no?

the first point above i take as true since you ignore it all together. no one here thinks you are some kind of "insider"....so do yourself a favor and drop the weak act. everytime you say "my sources" and all the information you attribute to them has already been posted ad nauseum on public message boards ("Bomar didn't look that great").....you look like a power tool.

when there's a multi-page thread at Hornfans that says the EXACT same thing about the OU spring game you attribute to "your sources".....c'mon?

That can't be true. Everyone knows, because Vito told us, that everyone has to wait for Texass to select its players before anyone commits. :meds:

Like it or not, generally speaking, Texas pretty much hand picks who they want nowadays. Mack has always been a top notch recruiter and with some "big game" victories under his belt he continues to gobble up sick talent.

Maybe that is because Texas has reached its limit for QBs. Texas likely has 2 5-star QBs committed.

KC, I have never really cared what you say I've been an Ex for almost 10 years. I knew several boosters when I lived in Austin I knew several in San Antonio and several here in Minneapolis. One of the guys I know in Austin is pretty close to several coaches and plays golf with one in particular every week.

I keep in touch with several of these people.

I used to be really good friends with Johnny Walker and his wife Nicole but I haven't kept up with them for years.

Like I said camp is that why just two years ago Texass lost out on the #1 QB, #1 RB, #1 DT, and #1 DB in the state to OU? Don't tell me that Adrian Peterson and Rhett Bomar were not offered and heavily recruited by texass.

you fucking rule Bill.

you are THE ONLY ONE on this whole board and all the ones that came before it....who know someone in the AD or maybe (gasp!) a player or coach at the school they root for.

you still miss the point. in more than one way.

Historically speaking they do. They certainly do this year. Texass looks like a carbon copy of last years OU team, next year. A bunch of young returnees on the Oline with one star. Hellacious young QB problems. One who can't hit a WR only Dbacks and another that couldn't stay in the pocket if you chained him by shackles to a guard. Heck OU's defense looked better last year than Texass' does this year coming in and don't even try and BS anyone that your TBs this year are better than OU's last year with Peterson, Jones, Patrick, and Gutierez.

BTW Peterson has said that was the reason he came to OU to the national media. The real reason he went to OU was because the OU coaching staff was the only staff in the country that not only recruited him and his mom but his father as well. Thank You Nate Newton and the Barry Switzer Pennitentiary connection.

Must have been fun watching a white boy with no knees toss up 112 points on the scoreboard in 3 tries. Especially considering that it took three tries for Radio before he could even reach double digits. That white boy with no knees put more points on the board against texass in one game than radio did his entire career.

^^^^^^^^
You are not mistaken

I don't worry about those 112 pts scored by JW, you see the reason Texas gave up 112 is gone, but spooner fan doesn't understand that.

Riddle me this suncoast:

What coach has the longest current win streak and how many games is it?

Texas just nailed a huge commit today, Tray Allen had a news conference and committed. This makes 6 Oline commits. According to some of the Rivals guys it is a very real possibility that Texas has the top rated OT and OG Nationally.

Also one of the Texas Coaches was the guest speaker at an alumni luncheon and he told the audience that Texas will only take 22 kids this year.

This means that we are down to just 3 ships and we have 6 scholarships offers out there.

I'm pretty sure that Richetti Jones has one of those ships the other two are split between L Creer and a few Out of State offers.

My guess is unless Jones suddenly falls in love with another school then we are pretty much set this year.
