What Games are you looking forward to this year?

Me 4 for sure for the Buckeyes:

1) Texas...I want the Buckeyes to roll down into Austin and beat their asses so bad...granted Football Jesus will be performing miracles in the NFL but they still return a ton of talent...defensively they will be tough and they have a veteran OL and Charles and Taylor back to carry the mail...I see tOSU with the edge based on having a wealth of offensive experience and weapons - TG2, Tony Gonzalez, Pittman, and of course TS...my early call is

tOSU 27
Texas 13

2) Michigan...goes without saying but at home...probably for the Big 10 title? Plus the chance to go 5-1 against LLOYD...priceless...this will be TS' last game in the Shoe and he has already torched scUM for two years running...so to add a third would be icing on the cake...if Hart and Henne can stay healthy Michigan will be a quality squad...my early predicition

3) PSU...just want some revenge from last year at Happy Valley...PSU loses a lot of guys so they could be ripe for a rebuilding year but Joe Pa has brought in another excellent class to go with some very exceptional sophmores...this is an early season game so it might favor tOSU and the fact it is in the Shoe...my early prediction

4) Iowa...i mean I know Iowa has like 75 first round picks on their squad but I would love for tOSU to bitchslap them again like last year...I am not going to waste too much time talking about what a pussy Tate is...my early prediction

Aw fuck it. Honestly, I'm looking forward to UofM, MSU, PSU and USC. All for different reasons. MSU and USC, to correct two wrongs from last year. UofM and PSU, because most of their fans (present company exlcuded) are already getting unreadable. Ironinc, coming from a fan of a team that has brought the internet a site such as NDNation.

Gotta say A&M vs. Army. Mostly because I am going to the game with my best friend who still lives in Dallas. The game, I hope, will not be very exciting, but hanging out with my bud, partying in San Antonio, and watching my Ags are all things I miss.

Ohio State.

The only difference is the order in which I would place them. I am much more looking forward to Notre Dame than Ohio State, since I think Michigan can win at South Bend. I don't see it happening at the Shoe.

Miami on Monday night to open the season. This game will set the tone for the season.

Florida last game of the season. I dont think I have ever wanted to beat a team as bad as I want to beat UF this year.

9-2 in Knoxville

Should be the top football game in the country to start the 2006 season. The game will be the biggest opening season game for both programs in a long, long, time.

Both teams should be top 10-15 in the country, and there maybe no better place to play a game than Neyland (104,000 plus).

Tennesse was #3 in the country to start the season last year, but had the same problems we had with the qb's. Hopefully both teams have this resolved, and can play at full strength.

I don't think there is a tougher place in the country for a visiting team to play. That being said... I think we'll come out of Knoxville with a 7 to 14 point win, with us going into the game as 2-4 point dogs.

Next game will be Minnesota, and I hope we don't have a let down.

Though I don't agree with Buckeye fan's score I'm pretty sure the results will be in line with his. Chizik says he believes this defense is the most talented he has ever coached with that said I think that tOSU wins 16-13. Everything depends on our QBs and their defense. As good as their offense is I think the Texas defense will be up to the task of stopping them.

Mine are pretty much the same as Killian's:

Penn State: a really tough home opener. Both teams are traditional powers who had fallen on hard times but rebounded last year, so early on, this figures to be a potential "statement" game for both teams.

Michigan: just one week after Penn State. We get something of a meat grinder to start the season this year: Georgia Tech on the road, followed by Penn State and Michigan at home. If we emerge undefeated out of that gauntlet, I think it's a good sign that we're for real.

Michigan State: We dug ourselves a deep hole in last year's game, and MSU actually has done relatively well against us in recent years (7-2 since the series resumed in 1997 following a 2-year hiatus). Even though Michigan State is a team we should beat most of the time, we've found ways to lose more often than not in recent years. There's little, if any, margin for error in terms of winning a national championship, and in that regard, this game also looms as a potential "statement" game for us.

USC: I think last year's game showed that we're capable of winning this game. For my money, this is the year we end USC's streak in this series.

The Texas/tOSU game will be played in the afternoon. Texas like to play teams from the North in the heat of the day, it gives them an advantage because they are used to the heat.

I would assume NBC will air the ND-PSU game at the usual 2 o'clock starting time. I hear ABC is pushing for another night game for tOSU-UT, but I know Texas folks would rather host the Buckeyes in the Austin day-time heat. It would suck if the games were on at the same time.

I feel like that would be a bigger advantage later in the season. I know its HOTTTT in Texas, but its not like Ohio in August is a tundra.

Well the game is September 9th...I know Texas is still hot in September but we are not talking 95 and 100% humidity...I could be wrong though...

In fact wasn't last years game in C-Bus pretty warm as I re-call like in the low to mid 80's during the day with high humidity which still hung around at night? Lance was at the game perhaps he can shed some light on the subject?

I would guess at worst tOSU/UT would be the marquee ABC 3:30 game or they could go with the noon National deal...

I would much rather see this game on at night but well we shall see...I think it would be another ratings bonanza and if they put it on unopposed in prime time it would be sweet...

Are you kidding, September could be just as brutal as August for heat.

I remember back in 2k2 we had a straight week of better than 108 degrees in September.

I personally don't think this is a sound strategy anymore. Usually on the really hot days Texas practices in the bubble; that is a big practice facility that looks like a tent only held in place by the flow of air.

Though playing in the heat of the day will give Texas a slight advantage I don't see it as being too big a deal.

I lost about 10 lbs. at last year's game, but I would attribute most* of that to the fact that I sat in the second-to-last row of B-deck (directly under the top deck where there is little to no air circulation).

I have never been to Austin, but I live in Phoenix and it's an oven right through October. I don't think it gets nearly as hot, temperature-wise, in Austin but I know the humidity can get pretty nasty. I can't really say whether or not it will be a deciding factor in the game. I do know this-- ABC is gonna try like hell to make it a night game in primetime, so the whole argument might be all for not.

But whatever, Buckeye fan got to play the "Night Game in the Shoe" card all summer last year so I don't mind if Longhorn fan runs the "Texas Heat" smack this time around.

*Ryan Hamby certainly didn't improve my situation

Uhhh, you might be surprised to know that ND had 7 opponents on our '05 schedule who played in bowl games in '04: Syracuse, Navy, Purdue, Tennessee, Michigan, Pitt and USC. And three of those opponents played in BCS bowls in '04.

Tony Gonalzez, Pittman, Troy Smith, malcom jenkins, jamario O neal...most of these guys ran high school track and are pretty fast in their own right...

not sure where you can make the claim you made but I am sure you will post the 40 times of all Texas starters I am sure...

I remember you saying last year that tOSU's LB's were slow and wouldn't be able to keep up with Texas and after that game what was the term you used faster than greased owl shit...

both teams have a lot of speed and experience at key positions...it just so happens tOSU has it at one of the most important...QB...you know kind of like texas last year...

this year I see the roles being reversed...last year tOSU had the defense, home field, and some weapons on O...Texas had the experienced QB and a mighty fine defense as well...sure 25-22 was the final texas won hats off. but damn that game was a lot closer than ether side thought it was going to be I am sure...

this year tOSU has the experience at QB, WR, and a solid running game, Texas has a superior D, a solid running game (don't go ape shit..Pittman still ran for over 1300 yards last year for tOSU so don't discount their running game), and home field...I made an early prediction and I stick by that but you know what that is WHY THEY PLAY THE FUCKING GAMES and I can't wait again...

Lance...at least you were there...two days before the game I get a call from the former alumni chapter president here in Charlotte...I got two tickets at face value you can have but you have to be one of them going...AW SHIT...I HAD 40 fucking people scheulded to come over and watch the game and my wife looked at me like NO FUCKING WAY...

I'll spare you the 40 times, and I know that you got some speed on offense and defense.

I'm pretty sure though that Texas is faster as a team. Generally speaking Texas does a lot of spinning down. They spin down safeties to LB, LB to DE and DE to DTs. Chizik's aim is to put as much speed on the field as possible.

Even our oline is fast by Oline standards. Back when Tim Nunez was the Oline coach he liked to bring in the giant fat guys like Mike Williams, but when he got canned and Mack turned the line over to McWhorter all that changed. The only guys that we recruit now are the 280ish guys that can move. McWhorter hates fat guys that can't move their feet.

I have no doubt that tOSU has a good running game, they should be great this year. Really the only thing Texas is lacking is an experienced QB.

Like I said, I don't think we will win this game, I just want to see progress from our QBs at this point.

I will say this if they are able to hold their own, I think Texas will win. IOW no turnovers and some signs of life in our passing game.

at Oklahoma: this game against a very good team in an outstanding college football environment will help prepare our younger players for the tough road games they'll have in the Pac 10

at USC: it will be nice to see if we've closed the gap on them even a little bit

at Oregon: enough said

at Wazzou: enough said

All of the biggest games are on the road. That'll make it tough on the Huskies but it means that most of the home games are winnable. I think this is the year where UW gets things going back in the right direction.
