Jimmy Cagney in White Heat

Post by King Crimson »

watched this last night for the first time in probably 10 years. there's a "movie poster" for it in V's crib in V for Vendetta....and I figured it wasn't an accident. and there's a connection. but, what a great gangster flick!

that and Huston's Asphalt Jungle (which i also watched last night) are fantastic film noir/gangster films.

RACK you for paying that much attention to a movie! :P

there''s some cool noCal shots in the film noir "Out of the Past" with Robert Mitchum and Kirk Douglas. up near Tahoe and such.

i'd also recommend the Big Combo and Kiss Me Deadly (which is a dark, grimy spillane number, that clearly influenced some of Pulp Fiction)....

I don't know about Mitchum...the movie version of the Big Sleep is pretty bad.

check out Louis Malle's Elevator to the Gallows....with the Miles Davis soundtrack. second only to Oliver Nelson's score for Last Tango in Paris as a "cool" jazz soundtrack.
