Outlook express

Post by Luther »

Do any of you know what the hell is going on?

Here is the deal...I use Outlook express which came with XP Pro. For the last year or so I've noticed some ghey things going on with my mail utility. A couple of days go by and I don't have any mail...not even spam. So I go in and check my properties and see that "somehow" the incoming mail (Pop3) setting was changed from mail.comcast.net to 127.0.0.1

Hmmm...so I change it back and hit "apply". Go back and check for mail and I'll have 10 emails. This is starting to happen at least 5 times a week now.

It never changes the outgoing settings (outgoing mail(SMTP)). Also, I'll be reading here at T!B and hit refresh and I'll get the no connect bullshit. I've been knocked offline...plus...my internet connection is basically gone. I'll try to repair it, but it won't work...so I have to reboot windows and then everying is fine. Usually I'll lose the mail settings at that time too.

WTH is happening? I use Norton AV, adaware, spybot...

Thanks

Did you upgrade to SP2? 127.0.0.1 is the address of your local machine. It's possible that there is some configuration issue introduced by SP2 and the firewall.

Did you ever try thunderbird? You might want to give it a spin. Your settings will probably not change, at least.

I did the service pack 2 but it crashed my system (like everybody else). I had to do a system restore to a previous date in order for me to recover.

thunderbird? As in thunderbird wine...the old Tbird? hahaha I used to say that Tokay (another classy wine) was Ok 'till payday. But 88, I have no idea what you mean.

I use SP 2 with no problems.

Guess I'm the minority.

I've never seen a program change the POP server's address the local PC's address. The only thing that usually requires you to do it is when you set up a spam checker and it works in between your email client and the server. Its possible that someone else did for you. Did someone service your machine lately? Does anyone who is computer knowledgable use your pc lately?
