He was out of position and his body half turned around the other way. Desperate attempt to clear that landed on Stoll's stick. Thank god.

I dont want to sound like an arrogant prick but for some reason I wasn't worried about the turn out. Rolo was playing well and the boys were playing well for the most part. I haven't felt that relaxed watching a game in a long time.

Bring on game 4.

He made a great attempt at the first shot but he was way too slow to react to a possible rebound. How do you swat the puck out front and stand with your back to play? Granted, someone should've picked up Stoll in front but no use crying over spilled oil. (shitty pun, I know)

Considering this team had no business taking this game to OT, I'll at least be encouraged that when the Wings turn it on, they are very capable of winning games. This isn't like the Anaheim and Calgary series where the opposing goalie was unbelievable. I think Mike Garrett on CBC was kissing Roloson's ass a little too much. His performance is very overrated...he's just facing a lot of routine shots but when the Wings turn on the pressure and his defensemen don't help him out, he's very vulnerable. I almost think the Wings are due for a blowout win in this series. I'm convinced this series isn't over. Yzerman's status is a concern but I thought three of the Wings' four lines were excellent in the third period and overtime. I hope they can take that into Game 4.

The Anaheim and Calgary series hasn't been like that either. Kiprusoff and Giguere have left a lot to be desired.

It's John Garrett, and he's actually highly skilled at playing homer for his audience. That's what you're seeing. You're not his audience, so you probably won't like what he has to say.

I almost think the Wings are due for a blowout win in this series. I'm convinced this series isn't over.

Now THAT'S arrogance!! The Wings have played like garbage all series long. They haven't elevated their game and don't have an answer to Edmonton's speed and exuberance. The Wings aren't due for shit but an early tee time. And it would pain me to see the Oilers win this thing.

Agree w/Shoalzie and JD. Garret is brutal. Rolo had some good ones but alot of them were basic stops that he most definitely should have gotten.
That said I have nearly done an about face on the guy. While I have not become a fan of him the fact that he seems to have gotten "hot" is good enough for me at the moment.

I actually meant the Wings' series against Anaheim and Calgary in the past two playoffs where they were eliminated...not this year's Anaheim-Calgary series. I'm surprised that series has been such a scoring fest. Thought we'd see some 1-0 and 2-1 games in that one instead.

Conragdulation on the win Oilers. But like Shoalzie, i'm far from panicing. Even with the loss, i seen alot of encouraging things to take to game 4.

Manny needs to wake up and become quicker when guys are behind the net. That Smyth goal was simply unacceptable and Samsonov would have scored on the wrap around if it wasn't for our defensemens stick - little did it matter seeing that the puck went in 1 second later. In the beginning of the game we played flat out stupid getting into penalty trouble. And during the 2nd OT we were playing flat out stupid in our own end.

Outside of all of that, i liked the way we were skating and i thought we were getting more pressure in the offensive zone. Zetterberg was flying through the neutral zone and making Edmonton look slow. Cleary also was fast enough to just go around, and when that wasn't working we weren't doing a bad job dumping and chasing. I thought we were playing a little more physical and our PP and PK was looking better. Datsyuk was starting to look a little more comfortable out there.

If we can just take care of the soft goals, play smarter in the defensive zone, and stay out of penalty trouble, i am convinced that we won't need OT next game.

The Oilers were up 2-1 vs Dallas the last time they were in the playoffs and managed to get eliminated in 6 games.

This series is far from over, Detroit dominated game 1, they looked good in game 2, and were out worked in game three. I believe that the they are going to come out super hungry in game 4 and Edmonton's going to have to hold and pray it doesn't get out of hand.

Some bad officiating tonight too. That pick on Stoll for the 3rd Wings goal was a joke.

Like the CBC boys said....the calls have to be consistent and they are not. Both ways.

I don't know whats going to happen now. I really the Oil needed to put them away tonight to stand a chance. They gave Zett and Datysuk a chance to find their stride and now I think they will make Rolo pay.

There was some questionable calls - both ways, but i really don't think the Lidstrom play was one. So he should get a penalty for setting up and getting ready to recieve a one-timer? You can obviously see Lidstrom turn his shoulders in attempt not to make contact and somehow the Edmonton player(i forget who it was) fell? If anything that's just as much a dive as a pick. There's a difference in purposely getting into a guys path without the puck and interferring than what Lidstrom did.

I agree with you about Zetterberg and Datsyuk. Zetterberg really found his stride in game 3 and Datsyuk is finally starting to look normal again. That's defenite trouble for Oilers. But on the bright side for you guys, i didn't think Manny looked very confident. Both goals were soft, especially the 2nd one. Should make for a good game 5.

Officials aside, this was the best effort from the Wings in the series. They played well from the drop of the puck. The referees were at least consistently bad for both sides. The incidental contact between Lidstrom and Stoll prior to the third goal should've been a penalty based on the way the game was called. To the Wings credit...they were getting killed with penalties in the second but were able to keep the Oilers off the board and go into the third for first time in the series without trailing. The Wings could've easily had two more goals...Lebda missed an empty on the PP and Shanahan slide a shot through the goal mouth. Even without their inspirational leader in the lineup, they played a spirited game and this is definitely a whole new series. We now have a mini best-of-3 with 2 games in Hockeytown...I like the Wings' chances going forward.

Nick tried his best back off him and he made contact with his stick...that shouldn't have caused him to go down. It's unforunate but players this time of year resort to diving on anything draw penalties since power plays are so influential in the postseason. That dive Staios had last night was a disgrace...especially for a gritty guy like him. You don't think of the rugid players to try that stuff. I know Chelios has been guilty of that a few times...the Wings definitely aren't angels in this conversation.

Yeah, i totally agree. And that's the problem if they want to get the NHL to the point where there is no hooking and clutching and interference - guys will start to dive. And the answer that problem they would have to start seriously fining and suspending guys for diving - and have guys in the NHL watch games after they're done to catch whoevers diving.

The 4th win in a series is always the hardest. Expect a more desperate effort from the Wings on Monday...a la Thursday night. The first period looked promising but they missed the net several times and Roloson was strong. The Oilers come out in the second and got some lucky bounces and put the Wings back on their heels. In the third, they played a perfect period much like their effort in Game 2. I wasn't expecting the Oilers to roll over today and don't expect the Wings to do that on Monday. I can't imagine this is how Yzerman wants to go out...if this is it for him. I'm willing to bet he dresses for the game but plays limited minutes if he's not all there. They need his presence out there.

Good game Edmonton. We threw a knockout punch at you guys in the first period, and came up with nothing, then you guys took over. I thought Datsyuk was great in the first period, we just couldn't finish. I had a bad feeling at the 1st intermission that we just loss the game for not having anything to show for. I do not at all think this series is over. I expect the Red Wings to win game 6 - simple as that.

Red Wings fans can say what they want, this is the Oilers' series to lose.

This is a carbon copy of the Flames' 2004 victory over the Wings. It's so obvious that the Wings are unwilling to compete with the Grease. Horcoff stickhandles along the boards, Wings' guy tries to poke-check rather than play physical. It's OBVIOUS. The Wingfans on this board try to make it sound like the Wings just need to start trying, but that's B-U-L-L-S-H-I-T. The Wings just can't match the Grease's physicality, exuberance, and desire.

Oilers in six, put it in the bank. And that's from a dude that hates the Oilers more than one could imagine. The Grease took the Flames' book and read it, copied it, made it their own, and executed it.

The Wings have played their best hockey of the series when they were in Edmonton...I'm at least going to have faith in that. I think the Wings are going to need to add more grit in the offseason for the next year's playoffs because the finesse style hasn't been working but I'll at least hope they can squeeze a little more out of this team. Skill for skill, the Wings beat the Oilers in that department but in the playoffs, skill and finesse is cancelled by grit and guts. Unfortunately, I've had to witness that the last few years. This team needs to dig down deep to win this series...don't know if they're capable of doing so.

Also, Manny is playing to keep his job for next year. You think WingFan will want him back if he loses in the first round in spite of winning 37 games in the regular season? They ran Cujo out of town and he wasn't the problem when the Wings were eliminated those two seasons. Someone is going to be a scapegoat for the losing but I think it's ultimately the way the team is built. Shanahan isn't the Shanahan of '97 and '98 when the Wings picked him up and he was the final piece to the puzzle. A lot of the vets on this team don't nearly have the hunger they once had. Cheli is a gamer but I'd just assume see the Wings let him go and work on injecting more youth into the lineup next year.
