Help me out here....

Post by ChargerMike »

...just reading the press on the Bolt's 6th. round pick Jeromey Clary :? :? :?

The Bolts select two player in the six round, Kansas State Offensive Tackle Jeromey Clary and Virginia kicker Kurt Smith.

“Clary is a tall offensive tackle who actually looks thin for a 300 pounder and can be pushed around at the point of attack -- aggressive pass rushers consistently get into his chest, jolt him and drive him backwards into the quarterback's lap. He has the foot quickness that is tough to find in a 6-foot-6 offensive tackle, but he needs to learn to play under control and keep his feet underneath himself more consistently (he bends at the waist and overextends too often). Once he makes contact with the pass rusher, he has a tendency to stop his feet and gets beaten by quick, secondary pass-rush moves. The trouble is that he is not aggressive with his hands, which gives the defensive end the control. He is not an aggressive blocker and tends to be more of a positional, seal-run blocker who cannot get movement, and once he makes contact on run blocks, he has a tendency to stop his feet, lean and overextend too often. As concerning as his physical limitations are, it's really a concern that he does not read and react well to defensive line stunts/loops and delayed blitzes.

...does this sound like "the best player available" at that pick?????

No doubt there was a wealth of blue chip talent remaining in the 6th round...

Of course they let him walk. You would have to be certifiable to pay ten million in guaranteed money to an injured quarterback when you have the #4 overall sitting there on the bench.

It was smart business on both sides.
It would have been smarter business to have traded him last season when the Chargers could have easily picked up a 2nd rd pick or even a conditional 1st rounder this year.

Not to mention passing on S Troy Palomalu to trade down and pick up CB Sammy Davis who is now in SF.

AJ hit it big last season, but overall his draft record has been a bit spotty IMO.
Butkus didn't wear an earring.

Hey Charger fans we aren't going to the playoffs this year. Rivers ain't no Drew Brees, I hate to say. You say, so, we didn't go to the playoffs last year? That's not on Drew's back. Join me in rooting for Drew in the NFC. He'll give the Saint's lots to cheer about. Being the bearer of bad news isn't fun, but we're gonna barely take 2 from the Raiders and lose 2 each to the Chiefs and Broncos. Those who didn't support Drew Brees will sure notice how he'll be missed this season.

...where to start?

Rivers ain't no Drew Brees...concur, don't really know what he is.

Join me in rooting for Drew in the NFC...will do.

He'll give the Saint's lots to cheer about...yeah, they may even take the sacks off their heads.

but we're gonna barely take 2 from the Raiders and lose 2 each to the Chiefs and Broncos...Raiduh's 1-1 Chiefs 1-1 Donks 2-0

Those who didn't support Drew Brees will sure notice how he'll be missed this season...oxymoron much?

Oh, I'm sorry. GOOOOOOOO CHARGERS. We're gonna win the AFC West with Rivers at the Helm. Denver and KC don't STAND A CHANCE.
Rivers will DEFY THEM ALL. Of course he'll STOMP THE PANTS off those Faiduhs. WTH was I thinking????? QB's like Brees come a dime a dozen.

Geeeeeez.

Thanks for setting me straight Paul.

So you're a Saints fan now? Good. Let's just make that clear.

You're an embarassment as a Charger fan and that's saying something.
No silly. I'll be secretly watching San Diego struggle.

I don't see the same heart, soul, drive, witt and intelligence in Rivers. I don't think his fellow players do either. He'll have to prove it to me I guess. I see the same old Chargers, getting rid of play makers, having it come back and bite them in the ass. It takes A LOT more than holding a clipboard for 2 years to go up to Arrowhead and Mile High and even stand a chance of not melting. I don't know who's call it was to not put in Rivers in that last meaningless game, but I'm not into letting it slide easily.

I'm now going to let this go, it's about time to move past it.

You could tell that from all 30 of his professional pass attempts?

Amazing...

Hahahaha... I get your meaning, CM. That write up is pretty brutal. Basically, he can't run block and pass rushers have their way with him. Which is fine if we're talking about a punter here. But you know the score, the guy probably has enough physical upside and intelligence in the coaches estimation that they think they can work with him on his technical deficiencies.

BTW- Joe Jacoby wasn't even drafted back when there were 12 rounds. Who knows what you're getting.

Here's the deal, fussybritches- what EXACTLY makes you think that Philip Rivers is a WORSE QB than Brees? Dude's been in that system for THREE YEARS NOW, not to mention the fact that he has this entire offseason to take over as the starter and prepare and practice as such. If anything the guy will be dangerous because nobody outside of the SD coaching staff really knows what the guy is capable of doing. With Marty still coaching your team it wouldn't surprise me AT ALL if the Bolts won the West again this season.
It is simply a case of the devil you know versus the devil you don't know. I don't KNOW how Rivers will compare to Brees. Playing QB effectively in the NFL is difficult, so my presumption is that it is more likelly an unproven QB will not suceed compared to one who has. I don't care where ihe was drafted,, Tim Couch, Akili Smith, Andre Ware, whathisname from Notre Dame, etc. Now I agree that given Brees injury that it wasn't necessarily a bad move to move him, but I don't really have a ton of confidence that Rivers is going to step in and be effective any time soon, and maybe never.

.....yeah I get it mvscal. :meds: nobody's here is gripping over a 6th. rounder, simply pointing out that according to the report this guy couldn't keep Rosie O'Donnell off the QB.

It sure doesn't come across that way. Sounds like you and trev have already thrown in the towel.

Bolt Pride?!? Oh....OK.

...hey if you can show me where my post about some 6th. round dreg with a pathetic scouting report in any freekin way translates to me bailing on the Bolts then fire away.

On the other hand Trev's post was a Brees sob job and her post certainly did sound like an abandonment.
