It didn't take long for Raiders Coach Art Shell to let people know who is boss.
Shell began face-to-face chats with players soon after his hiring, on Feb. 11. In one instance, wide receiver Jerry Porter's get-to-know-you meeting turned into a war of words and ended with Shell booting Porter from his office.
``Attitudes and things like that will have to be changed somewhat,'' Shell said. ``I have to set the tone. I expect to set the tone.''
He continued that process Friday in Alameda during practice on the first day of the team's weekend mini-camp.
``The attitude has changed because he's demanding it,'' tackle Robert Gallery said. ``This place is moving in the right direction.''
Shell inherits a team that has won only 13 games the past three seasons. Those three losing seasons are one more than Shell experienced as a Raiders player from 1968 to 1982 and as the team's coach in 1990-94 (he took over from Mike Shanahan during the 1989 season).
``I know how to win,'' Shell said. ``I know how to lead. I expect that we will have the kind of success that this organization deserves.''
Barry Sims, a veteran on the offensive line, said he already notices a contrast between the way Shell runs the team and the way things operated under Norv Turner and, before him, Bill Callahan.
``The last few years it seemed a little too loose,'' Sims said. Now, ``everybody's held accountable for our actions and what we do. The only way you'll be successful is to have that accountability.''

In an interview last night JP was asked what he thought of Art shell. He said that he wished we had gotten Martz because he would have made "us the greatest show on grass." He said but Shell comes in here trying to install this "tuff Guy" BS. He said that he didn"t think that last year"s team was undisiciplined, and that last year"s team was better than this one.
I don't think the turnaround is gonna be that easy .
I'm not sure that the story about Art 'kicking J. Porter out of his office' wasn't blown up to sound like a lot more than it was.
I'm also not even sure what the troof is about these supposed Porter comments in the supposed interview.
Look, Art Shell isn't lacking a pair, as were Porter's past two coaches.
Art also isn't anything like Vince Lombardi ....... or even Tom Coughlin.
He's not a big-time hard-ass.
He just knows what it takes to be a winner.
Part of what it takes is for the coach to LEAD, and for the coach to have the respect of his players.
Oakland's receiving corp is made better by what Porter brings to the table, but if he can't deal with Art Shell then he needs to be sent on his way.
Art Shell is a football genius... Jerry Porter is a #2 receiver who has yet to break 1,000 yards in a season. He need to shut the fuck up and play football. He is no longer the only member of the receiving corp worth a damn and he is expendable...

Art Shell ihas Als trust and is granting him more control. Jerry Porter is a poor mans Sterling Sharpe. Meaning he talks a better game than he actually played. Porter has had some moments where you go "Wow he played pretty good today". The keyword is SOME. I'm beggining to see why Gruden kept this guy in the doghouse, he doesnt know when to shut up and doesnt have the numbers to back up anything.

I remember on draft day when we took him a scout saying that Porter had been a dick all through high school and college and he saw no reason for him to change at the NFL level.
Fuck Jerry Porter, dude is a legend in his own mind that shows up 4 games and year then takes the rest of the season off all while complaining about his jersey # or some other ridiculous bullshit.
Dude is a cancer and he should get a ticket out of town to poison someone else's locker room.
I wish we could have traded him on draft day but the cap hit makes it to difficult.
Either way I believe that this will be Porter's last season in Oakland.
Players like Porter are contributing to the culture of losing that we are finally trying to change.
