prolly better to say outside of tOSU and A&M Texas destroyed everyone...plus they beat SC by 7 right?

look I would tend to agree that the 95 Huskers were the shit...but I still think 94 PSU deserves some major run...
I think Vito meant that UT beat USC & tOSU in their own cribs (although the Rose Bowl wasn't a clear home field advantage for SC), and outside of A&M, beat the shit out of every other team on their sked.

Bingo

I don't remember too much about the 94 Lions, is that the team that had Arrington? Who did they beat in their bowl game and were they even mentioned as the MNC? I thought Nebraska was the outright MNC winner that year.

^^^my bad on the reply

94 PSU had Kerry Collins, Kyle Brady, Ki Jana Carter, Joe Jurevicious and company...they were an awesome team...they had one down game that year against IU (I believe of all people) and fell to #2 in the polls while having a stranglehold on #1 all year (from my recollection)...

I think they destroyed Oregon in the Rose Bowl that year...all I remember is they ripped tOSU's ass wide open that year 63-14...yep that OSU team had George, Galloway, etc...I think I am still feeling the pain...

94 PSU might not have been up to snuff with the 95 Huskers, but they were DAMN FUCKING GOOD!

I remember the Rose Bowl in '94 when they played Oregon and on their 2nd or 3rd play from scrimmage, Ki Jana Carter ripped off a 65 yard TD right up the middle and the game was over after that. That offense was explosive. Too bad the Big 10 Champ had to play in the Rose Bowl b/c a Nebraska/PSU game that year would have been epic.

Indiana was the game that caused them to lose their #1 spot (PSU gave up two meaningless touchdowns to make the score appear close), but they also struggled against Illinois and Michigan that year, and I don't think Illinois was a bowl team that year. granted, both games were on the road and I'm pretty sure UM had a very solid team. IIRC, that's the year the Kordell hail mary beat them in Ann Arbor.

Yeah sure they lost Miami I think, right? still they had one of the most dominant defenses I can remember seeing. One loss ain't nuthin...Don't get me wrong here, at the time I thought the "Boz" was the biggest A-hole in sports since Reggie Jackson, but I got to give props.I'm pretty sure Jamelle Holieway was QB that year? I sure as hell remeber Keith Jackson having a career day against the Huskers.

Which leads to an interesting question. Is Troy Aikman the only QB to ever start for two #1 teams?

I dont have a problem per say w/ the teams in the Top 10 but '01 Miami I think is the second best of all-time and no way USC '04 is #10. Top 5 IMO.

I'm not going to rank my top 10, but I'd like to think the '88 ND team deserves a spot somewhere in the top 10. They beat (at the time they played them) the #1, #2, #3, and #4 teams during their season. On top of that, they also played and beat the defending Rose Bowl Champs in MSU, and they also beat PSU.

If '02 OSU deserves to be on there, so does '88 ND.

OU wouldn't have remained #1 if Troy had stayed the QB. He couldn't handle the OU offense he didn't have the physical anilty to put it bluntly.

But there is no way in hell Troy could start for Iowa!

Sin,

Jon

Killian I would agree with the 88 ND team but be careful in talking about who you beat...you are approaching Shaz territory with that shit...

I know this is run by the homer Dogpatch (I hate that paper - never read it in my 4.5 years at tOSU), but now the only reason i go to the online deal is it is free...but 4 OSU teams in the final 16 come on homers...I'll give you the 68 team and the 02 team but let's keep this say from 1960 on???

Good lord 25% of the final 16 are tOSU team...yeah right...

Mine would look like this:

1) 95 Skers
2) 94 PSu
3) 91 Miami
4) 92 Bama
5) 88 ND
6) 04 USC
7) 05 Texas
8) 01 Miami
9) 02 tOSU
10) very though but a tie between 85 OU, 00 OU, and 99 FSU

just sayin pile on

Yours is close to mine......
1. Obviouskers '95
2. Miami 01 - big time players make big time plays in big time games
3. ND 1988 - great team and coach
4. 04 USC - great team - Chow at the helm
5. 94 PSU - robbed, just robbed
6. Michigan 97 - team was stacked on defense - if Tom had not retired there would NOT have been a split
7. Miami 87
8. FSU 99
9. Texas 05
10. OU 2000

I'd probably have these teams, not sure in what order, with OSU '02 taking the place of either FSU or UofM.

Not trying to go homer b/c I have been pretty objective, but '99 FSU was the first to ever go wire-to-wire and was loaded w/ NFL talent. Not saying they are a Top 5 team of all-time, but outside of Clemson in Death Valley and the Swamp, no game was close.

Even thought they pulled away, they were down to VaTech in the 3rd quarter.

The other teams on that list either dominated their opponent in the bowl game, or defeated a team that was thought to be supperior in every way. The two teams that didn't fit that category were UofM and FSU.

Comfort had nothing to do with it. Even if he were comfortable in the offense he didn't have the physical attributes to operate it. Especially not the wishbone.

I don't really have top 10 because I haven't been following this thread that closely, but of course if I would consider the 95 Huskers the top. Besides their 10-1 record against the spread, they also started four different running backs that season and didn't miss a beat. THAT is unheard of, too. Contrast that to other champs (or supposed champs) and it's a different story.

Against the spread
2005 USC: 6-7
2005 Texas: 11-2
2004 USC: 8-5
2003 LSU/USC: 11-2
2002 Ohio State: 8-6
2001 Miami: 7-5
2000 OU: 7-5-1
1999 FSU: 6-6
1998 Tenn: 8-4-1
1997 NU 6-5/Mich 6-6
1996 Florida 8-3

Don't remind me.

Best seats I ever had (50 yarders, below press-family sec.), most anticipated SC/ND match up of my time thus far. I was 18,19 thinking these are worth some serious jack. Do I sell? Noooooo.

The beat down started on the first or second play I think, from the ND 2 yd line. TOUCHDOWN! :brad:

This would be followed 2 years later (or was it two years previous), SC game well in hand. I mean well in hand. over right? Time to party...NOPE. Car's been towed, go back in, the comeback begins. ND wins, run through Watts at 9:30PM looking for a tow yard that is closing at 10PM.

Ah memories.

The guy you're talking about was no longer the OC after the '84 season, IIRC.

froz is right.

and BTW if the 02 OSU team is making lists i'd put up 2000 OU. they beat 4 top ten teams (KSU twice--Snyder's best team) and dropped 64 on top 10 Texas. FSU in Florida for the MNC, and shutout one of the highest scoring O's in CFB history.

i don't think they were were one of the best teams ever but by the criteria homers are laying out......OU 2000 is hard to argue with.

What no guesses? I'll give you a hint... he is one of Vito's favorite people and he was asked to find a different position on a different staff at the end of the season.
The guy you're talking about was no longer the OC after the '84 season, IIRC.
I thought it was '85?

Oklahoma didn't win the conference title in '84 I believe and for a long time that was a funny on both the Family and Insider board that his only conference title was with OU. I would assume that meant '85 because it certainly wasn't '86. Maybe I am mistaken but I could have sworn that Nebraska was the Big 8 champs in '84.

OU won the conference in 84 and got beat by UW in the Orange Bowl. thereby giving the NC to BYU.

the complete 15-15 ref ass-rape in the rain at the Cotton Bowl was the most memorable of that year.

Yeeeah, I'm sure '02 OSU would have had a tough time playing to the same rugged standard set by Stanford in '04 against USC. :meds: No apologies for 02' Ohio st..Balls to the wall tough team that refused to lose and took down a bloodthirsty Miami Juggernaut in Tempe,One of the best bowl games ever,or weren't you watching??!! The main reason I didn't consider 00 Sooners, 02 Buckeyes was because they struggled in several games during the season. I don't remember the details of the 02 Buckeyes but I do remember them winning a lot of very close games. The Sooners had that amazing stretch in October where they beat Texas, KSU and Nebraska but then they struggled toward the end. Then they struggled to beat FSU in a pretty ugly game where I don't remember anyone even scoring a touchdown. I do remember that FSU played that game without their best player.

We struggled on the road at the end against two bowl teams.

We could have played the Orange Bowl for a Month and the only way Flroida State was going to continue scoring is if our punter kept doing it for them.

Florida State made it past the fifty what four times that game and never got into the red zone. Snoop Minnis was a starter but certainly not their best player.
