The more "sensitive" any given topic is, the more likely it will result in laughter when somebody "steps over the line" and addresses the issue with "inappropriate" comments. In this case, mvscal relied on the age-old stereotypes that black people consume chicken and malt liquor while guzzling malt liquor and committing crime(OK, the "crime" part wasn't a stereotype...that one's pretty much based in fact).
But, you know what -- go ahead and assume that any time you need humor explained to you, you're never going to get it, so save the energy you would have spent trying.
While I don't remember the specific posts you're referring to, I don't recall ever finding Pickle funny. His only value was "stirring the pot," which he was actually quite adept at.did you slap your knees and piss yourself when pickle used to post those racist french postcards, too?
do you still get the giggles for 'pull my finger'?
I'm going to have to go ahead and take the 5th on this one.
But, if in fact I do, it's a safe bet that timing and circumstance have everything to do with whether a good "pull my finger" is going to go over. For instance, a "pull my finger" sitting around with friends/family watching TV....whoop-de-do. However, you break out a "pull my finger" during a particularly dramatic part of a wedding or funeral....
COMEDY GOLD, BABY!
are you the dope with the slackjaw and wide eyes waiting for the punch line of 'knock knock'?
Again, depends on situation and subject matter.

Jesus Effin' Christ on a cross, this entire thread makes me want to put icepicks through my eyes. Sad too, because I actually like all of the main participants on this thread, and have for some time. But this thread is so disturbing on so many levels.
I can't believe I bothered slogging through the whole thing. I think I might have lost a few IQ points as a result.

Ignoring the problems with racial relations, and failing to regognize problems, and neglecting all evidence, be it statistical, anecdotal, or observational is quite "racist" in its own right.
Way to go, AnnieVO.
When any white person says anything derogotory about "black culture"(I also have a hard time typing that with a sdtraight face), you brand them a racist.
Newsflash, dildo -- African Americans commit an incredibly disproportionate amount of the crime in this country. This sin't speculation, this is FACT. Absolutely NO way to put any different spin on it than that.
Yet, all one has to do is cite FBI statistics, and you label them a "racist."
It seems like YOU are the one with the racial issues(swinging from IB's nutsac isn't exactly a positive quality). Something happened to you somewhere along the way that makes you ashamed to be a member of the ethnic group you belong to. That's too bad -- outside of the messageboard world, race means very little to me. But when forced to think about it, and when we start drawing up the "us vs. them" battle lines that the "black community" insists on making a religion of, I'm actually quite proud -- since MY ethnic group is pretty much responsible for just about every great innovation, invention, scientific discovery, and technological advancement made in modern history.
Maybe you're just being cunning, and doing the Lenny Bruce, and throwing that label around with such impunity so as to make it meaningless, much the way "mvscal" has become.
Could be...
But by ignoring the problems between ethnic groups in this country, and excusing deplorable actions and overall philosophies/attitudes based solely on the color of the offenders' skin, you're doing a lot more to set "the cause" back than anyone who says "blacks commit a lot of crime," or things of that nature.
Wanna fight racism in this country, TVO?
Disconnect your keyboard...that would be a good start. Tards like you and Annie are part of the problem, not the solution.

On top of all that I happen to know Annie really well personally and I'm well aware of her deeply embedded racial self loathing. For all of Mvscal's jokes I'm guessing that in real life he doesn't have quite as much contempt for blacks as Annie does.
Annie forgives them everything and constantly feels the need to be their apologist but her overall regard for them basically speaks to her feeling that they're little children who need excuses and should be judged as little children.

Van, we've had this discussion before, of course, but I think this is where we disagree.
Now, let's contrast that to mvscal. Admittedly, I've never spoken to mvscal offline, so it's hard for me to say to what extent he's trolling. But taking his statements again at face value, it would seem that if, hypothetically, one were to take every African-American man, woman and child in the country, line them up right in front of some gigantic ditch, then pick off each and every one of them with an AK-47, such an event would not bother mvscal in the least. In fact, there's even a possibility that he might join in such festivities.
The disclaimer in all of the above, of course, is that I honestly do not know to what extent to take mvscal's comments at face value. He is either the greatest character troll this board has ever seen, or one of the most hateful people ever to walk the face of the earth.
Taking what you say at face value, I don't see that as hatred. Contempt, pity, patronization, or maybe even some combination of two or more of the above. But not hatred, at least not imho.Van wrote:Annie forgives them everything and constantly feels the need to be their apologist but her overall regard for them basically speaks to her feeling that they're little children who need excuses and should be judged as little children.

Nope, I didn't. I said she loathes African Americans even more than Mvscal does.
She gives AA's absolutely no credit. She thinks of them as totally helpless and subject to the auspices and whims of, well, anything and everything else, and she's utterly ashamed of her ethnicity and especially her culture.
This is fact.
(Edit: I'll grant you that I also don't know at what level of seriousness to take Mvscal's racial rants.)

Fucking savages.
White Man would find it hard to "Keep It Rill" too if he saw his family floating face down in a drainage canal while his government stood by and did nothing.
This isn't a failure of African American culture. Individually, yes, but the greater burden lies with the corporate/psuedo Capitalist hegemony.
I keep wondering when ordinary Americans wil rise up and throw off the shackles of their oppressors. You country has a deep and meaningful socialist history. Too bad you've been robbed of it.
White people know how to swim......
Everybody died during Katrina (and Rita, with assists from Wilma and Ophelia). It was just that the government promised to save people, and didn't deliver on that promise. The Superdome was supposed to be a shelter in the middle of catastrophe for those who didn't have the means and the money to get out of town. It wasn't anything like what it was promised to be. White, black, American, Tourist... everybody got screwed.
People have a right to remain angry about what happened during Katrina, and it's continuing aftermath. I remember your anger over the Great White concert that claimed so many lives several years ago. You were right to be angry. You have no anger left over for this?

And it doesn't matter anyway because though they were Southern by choice, you're a southerner by birth, yes? as well as environment.
You're no more a yankee than lester maddox. And, you're old enough to have seen the really evil shit that went down. I'm glad I didn't. But you did. None of that affected you, and how you see the world? Cuz that would make you a saint, not a man. You're not claiming sainthood, are you?

There is a difference, and it applies here. Aniie has no respect for AA's. That's not hatred, its contempt, pity, frustration. It's mostly contempt, a low regard for them. Those soldiers were also OFFICIALLY REPRIMANDED when they deviated from their courses in order to save people stranded on their rooftops. We shouldn't forget that part of those days, either.Sudden Sam wrote:What part of Mandatory Evacuation wasn't clear?Martyred wrote:

I don't think all those Guardsmen "stood by and did nothing". They risked their lives to rescue thousands of people who didn't leave when told to.
The vast majority of those Guard personnel were white, by the way.
Nor should we forget that those guardsmen did indeed complain -- and complain loudly -- about not having enough to do, not having anything to do, of just being ordered to stand around while there was work that could have been done, of not knowing why they were down there in the first place, and of being used as photo op props for the president when he finally made an appearance. We shouldn't forget.
The color of the guardsmen doesn't mean a damn thing. Their americanness does. Their humanity does. The same with the rescue crews sent from all over the planet to assist the United States in a time of need. Their nationalities, their skin colors didn't matter; their humanity, and seeing that there was a need for their time and their bodies and their experiences, does.
Everybody died during Katrina, white and black. But because most of those we were seeing were black, there was a negative vibe to the initial stories put out that had nothing to do with truth and everything to do with perception. Blacks were expected to act poorly, therefore blacks were reported to act poorly -- even when all blacks were doing was organizing neighborhoodwide community search and rescue and foraging (thanks for that word, TomInVA, back then) missions so that everybody could get out, could make it out; even when it meant giving up one's place in the rescue boats and planes, so that children and old people and some families could stay together. And it was still a clusterfuck.
The little guy can only do so much. But the little guy -- black, white, everybody -- gave it all. Don't put the failures on the little guy, man. Just don't.

I never said the "white devil" was destroying the African-American community. Do we need to have "stores of anger saved up", to make you happy?
Anyway, Neely got clowned for taking the laughing at the Great White tragedy. He wasn't remotely angry about it. He was extremely angry about it. And he got clowned for not seeing anything funny at all in real people dying, in his neck of the woods. I don't remember if he knew anyone who didn't make it out, or who almost went but didn't that night, but I do remember, he was pissed off that the whole thing could have happened in the first place.
It was just something I remembered... to be honest, the first thing I remember about Neely, the strongest memory I have of Neely. It doesn't matter what he does, he'll always be associated with the Great White tragedy, for me.

What does it say that there are those who honestly wish it destroyed, however? Yes, the African-American community has a shitload of issues; what folks don't usually want to see, is that what happens in the AA community is just a mirror of what happens elsewhere.... whether others are held to the same magnifying glass for the same behavior, or not.
