Are the Who really considered Punk?
Sure...why not?

Boil the "punk" thing down to...rebellion, or even generational booger-flinging, and you'll have to recognize The Who as solidly in that tradition.

If you evaluate "punk" by a dress code or a particular drumbeat, likely, you're talking about something else entirely...something Malcom McClaren also recognized and exploited.

What about the Standells? They rocked the Munster's house.

And Iggy has to be on the list somewhere.

I always hated the Fukking Who, especially "Teenage Apeman"
(Caveman...Wasteland...whatever) with Townsend getting
things rokken with the hour-long solo on his Casio keyboard.
Need a recliner and good pillow to get through that one.

Had to laugh at this.

Let me guess...Blink182 is one of your favorite "punk" bands, too.

Btw- Missing Persons was considered fairly innovative in their day. And of course, the innovator-in-charge was...you guessed'er...a U&Ler. Not just any U&Ler, mind you, but from Dins' high school/hood. So was his brother(who was a friend of my sister's actually), who was the guy who resurrected Dolly Parton's career in the mid-80's.

So there. Yet another Dinsdalian brush-with-greatness...because you guys live for this shit.

As for punk bands...there's the Pistols, the NY Dolls, the Misfits, and the Ramones...all the rest were just following their lead.

Actually, that synthesizer part is pretty interesting. They jerry-rigged something that took in a person's "life data" and it spat out a succession of notes. For this song, they entered the data of their guru, Meher Baba.

So as I've explained to my son (who loves the song), they're not playing that keyboard part, but programming the synthesizer and just letting it rumble.

The Plasmatics were just plain scary. Wendy O was kinda hot if it weren't for all the punk makeover shit and drug aftereffects.

Let's see...I'll add TSOL and the Circle Jerks to the list.

The only really innovative thing about missing persons was Dale Bozzio's inability to stay clothed...
