I'm bringing back spelling and grammar smack
That’s right. I’m officially bringing spelling and grammar smack back, once again, by popular demand – initiated only by myself. However, let’s not get this confused with “random typo here and there” smack, which is undoubtedly very weak and easy to recognize. Let’s also not get this confused with “Goddamnit wolfman, chop off your right fucking pinky already!” smack - which is also “hip” and will go through no relapses like grammar and spelling smack once did. The fact is, our board faces a very pressing issue unlike any other in the history of not only mankind, but in the history of vegetation and micro-organisms, as well. This issue, of course, entails a certain group of posters who make daring and sword-wielding attempts to stab the hearts of the bright (aka, everyone other than them), by highlighting their alleged intellectual deficiencies whilst assassinating the English language as if it were a fat, gay and black president. Look, just because you’re 42, and you’re still on the second chapter of your first R.L Stein book doesn’t mean we have to super-size our idiocy to fit right in with the rest of you. For shame. Not only is it shameful, but it’s downright impolite to mock people who were born and raised in the foothills of the U&L. Since when did displaying idiocy, ignorance and general lack of interest in learning the English language become the “in thing”? And why should you be granted a free pass for this? Did TTB get a free pass when he put the keys in the ignition that night? NO. Did IB get a free pass when she posted pictures of herself displaying titties which would make 98 year old grandmas look doable? NO. Did Indyclown get a free pass after we found out the doctor told his mother “I’m sorry, the abortion was unsuccessful”? NO. Did m2 get a free pass when he decided one day to post a picture of him as a Victorian princess in a hilarious attempt to appear as anything other than incredibly homosexual? NO. Did Diogenes get a free pass the first day he decided to formulate a take on anything that resembled anything at all? NO. Did Rack Fu get a free pass when he tried to convince everyone that grass clippings are scarier than the Top Ten’s Most Wanted List? NO. You see, I put all of these acts right up there with genuine language violators masquerading as intellects. These acts are indeed, not “fresh”. If it’s considered cool to type like a deaf retard with multiple sclerosis talking through a drive-thru speaker, then I want to be uncool.

Actually, that bit there was unnecessarily awkward.MgoBlue-LightSpecial wrote:Good work. I didn't see anything wrong there. The Doktor wrote:I think this is a splendid idea. Since this shit board is more or less admitting that it's infested with pussies, what's not better than a group of pussies sitting around and looking for spelling and grammar errors?
You go, girls!
Mgo, if you're going to be our new Grammer/Spelling Hall Monitor then you're going to have to accept the fact that a large part of your job description entails a willingness, nay, a fervent bloodlusting eagerness, to crack the whip when necessary.
We can't have you letting people off easy like that. With your ascendancy there's supposed to be a new sheriff in town and bad form shall no longer go unpunished!

Fuck no, I'm far too lazy for that.your job description entails a willingness, nay, a fervent bloodlusting eagerness, to crack the whip when necessary.
Van, had you honed in on my point, you would've noticed that I clearly stated spelling/grammar smack will be considered acceptable (primarily) under the provision that the violator attempts to smack one's intelligence, while completely butchering the language in the process. It's still considered generally weak if spelling/grammar smack is used exclusively, and the poster ignores all other subject matter pertinent to the "debate".With your ascendancy there's supposed to be a new sheriff in town and bad form shall no longer go unpunished!

Don't tell Dimsdale and Bace that. You'll ruin everything.

Actually, there's almost nothing better than seeing a guy butcher his grammar/spelling during an attempt at ripping someone else for their grammar/spelling.
I want Mgo to take up the cudgels and accept this position in a newly formed T1B cabinet. He should wear a uniform and everything, replete with clipboard, whistle, flood pants and severe shoes; utterly resplendent and properly officious in a goofy looking Benny Hill hat.
That's the least a guy who's "officially bringing back grammar/spelling smack" should do, dontchathink?

READ, people, READ! I'm simply "bringing it back". What this means, to the layman, is that I want to make it acceptable for everyone to use WITHOUT scorn or ridicule (under the circumstance I outlined). Is my point starting to register yet? Don't go Bushice on me, Van. You're better than that.Van wrote:Actually, there's almost nothing better than seeing a guy butcher his grammar/spelling during an attempt at ripping someone else for their grammar/spelling.

Pssst...Mikey, go back and read my first post. Then ask yourself, "this guy wasn't REALLY serious about all this, was he? Does this guy REALLY think a spelling mistake is on par with Risa showing her saggy breasts?"
If your answer is "yes", then you probably shouldn't act as any sort of authority on what is or isn't comedy.
Simply put: If you didn't think it was funny, no big deal here. I'm really not interested in your creative input on ANYTHING. Trust me.

Uhhh, that has pretty much been MY theme here, in case you haven't noticed. If you got it for the joke that it was, you wouldn't still be putting on this silly charade of font altering, and you wouldn't have started that thread parodying this one. You won't drop this act, and I'm the one taking this too seriously? Hilarious.don't take your humor so seriously.
I would, but I don't want to get too serious for you.BTW, you still haven't explained the difference between Leno level humor and Kimmel level humor.
Let me 'splain it to you, so you won't go to sleep tonight all confused and stuff.MgoBlue-LightSpecial wrote:

I wasn't parodying this ("your") thread and, to be honest, I don't know how you might have taken it that way except that maybe you have a rampant case of "it's all about me!!!". ('sup Heels?)
Now, just think about it for a minute. I was one of the first to respond to this thread, with a reply of "definately a good idea". Guess what, I speeled definitely incorrectly on prupose. You still think I didn't get your little joke?
Next, I started another thread in a large green font, saying:
From now on, "I'm going to post in a large, bolded green font, and troll for indignant replies by posting pseudo-intellectual drivel on subjects that I really am clueless on, and played out insults designed to elicit replies in kind."
How could you possibly think I was trying to parody your thread (damn you must be one really really sensitive pup)? Is there anything in there that reminds you of you, or resembles anything in your thread? It there is it was completely unintentional.
Let me give you a clue -- I was imitating diogenes (which was obvious to everybody - except you I guess). Sorry to say, but I really wasn't thinking about you at all when I posted that. I hope it doesn't bruise your little ego to hear that.
Now, who's the one who doesn't "get it"?

Mgo, suffice it to say that you've grossly misinterpreted my sentiments here.
I was just enjoying the fact that Smackie actually dropped a post in this thread, with a spelling correction and everything.
See, I always enjoyed Smackie's posts so it's good to see him back. I'm very much enjoying this thread and the idea behind it. I'm with you here, 100%.
I must admit though that while I'm not on the m2 haters bandwagon like most people seem to be here I do often wonder about his posting style. His most recent thread, the one about Colorado, that one had me scratching my head and wondering to myself about m2, "Dude, just how old are you anyway? Shouldn't you be well beyond stuff like this by now??"
That's just referring to the content of the post, nevermind his "stylized" grammar and spelling.
Socal, you liked that, didja? It was either the "uber ellipsis" (nice) or a really long "Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand...", neither of which are really all that correct anyway. For that matter it's not very good form to begin a sentence with "and" in the first place but since I was just funnin' anyway, hey, WGARA?

My post wasn't meant to be defensive, and I seldom, if ever, feel the need to defend my use of the language. Just thought it was ironic that you misspelled the name of the one author you chose to cite in a post devoted to naming yourself as the enforcer of proper spelling and grammar. And, as if you didn't realize this when you posted it, you've put yourself in the unenviable position of having to almost be perfect when it comes to spelling and grammar, having assumed the mantle of authority on these subjects. Few people are going to pay much attention when the likes of m2 massacre English, because it's expected of them. But your posts will likely be closely scrutinized for such errors in the future as a result of your wearing the tin star symbolizing your jurisdiction in these areas. You're now held to a higher standard, even though, as you stated, we all occasionally make mistakes. Why, even Van misspelled execute in his paean to Zeppelin here.MgoBlue-LightSpecial wrote:Why would Van and Smackie feel the need to get defensive? You are two of the better writers here, surely I wouldn't go after the likes of you.
My "fury" was really directed toward the bottom of the barrel types...like m2.

How'd you ever catch that? I followed your link and I was staring at the word and still it took me a moment before I noticed the missing "e". Looking at it, I suppose the mind's eye sees what it expects to see so that word still looked "complete" enough to pass an initial cursory visual inspection.
Amazing "get" there, dude.

Southern schools taught us well.
After all, it is "Your all's" not "You're all's".
As in, "Your all's anal retentive thread about spelling and grammar on a message board is indicative of the magnitude of your all's boredom".
To quote Sir Winston Churchill* .... "This is the sort of bloody nonsense up with which I will not put.”
