ND backup QB transfers

Post by Killian »

I wish the kid all the luck in the world. He was never going to start a game at ND or take meaningful snaps, so best of luck to him.

If you're keeping track at home, ND's junior class (Willingham's second full recruiting effort) has nine players left. 2 on offense and 7 on defense.

Anyone still want to argue that ND didn't do the right thing?

I was just at the Irish site and had a little response on a thread concerning "can Jimmy start next year". My response was pretty much no way. Then I commented on Ricky and Casey not being that good and how the words Jimmy's bloodlines etc, etc....mean little. Also had to point out that Jimmy plays for a small private cali HS and the only thing "polished" about Jimmy where those fake CYO chump rings he likes to flash around......That last one got their panties in a bunch.....

Anyway, which QB was told his services would not be needed next year????????

David Wolke, a junior from Tennessee.

Sharpley, Jones and Frazer will all have a leg up on Clausen entering the 2007 season. It's not out of the relm of possibility, but I doubt he will start. I honestly don't care if he ever starts at ND. As long as he brings some players in this class, that is his biggest asset to me.

That's all I want. I suspect Clausen will be given every opportunity to start, but so will Sharpley, Jones and Fraizer.

You know snake if all wyat you wrote were true then the NFL wouldn't have guys from small schools. Who cares what level of competition the kid plays against. Dave Kreig went to Milton College and has better career numbers than Joe Namath. Look at all the NFL rosters and please tell me that the bigger school and the better the competition the better chance the person has of playing at the next level. Jimmy is the real deal and will flourish with Weis and the talent ND is bringing in. Besides from watching both Rick and Casey years ago the word was that Jimmy (at 12) was better than both his brothers. Some kids have it and some wish they had it. Jimmy's got it.

If Joe Namath played in today's game, I dont know if he would have made the HoF. His numbers are eerily similar to Trent Dilfer.

I'm not Heupel....however the argument that snake is making is without merit. Size of school doesn't matter. If it did then Steve McNair would have never been drafted.

This is not saying much.

Heup...I've seen Claussen play. He's polished so the argument is weak. Yes the odds are more in the favor of a large school kid doing well due to many factors, however look at NFL rosters. There are plenty of kids from small schools that are doing very well for themselves.

reLax, I'm talking about SMALL HS, not SMALL colleges. The NFL was never brought into the discussion. My point on SMALL high school vs LARGE high school is competition. Polished, he seems to be polished, but friggin Corky can look polished if the talent he's playing against is inferior.

Question, should the rest of the QB's on ND roster start looking to transfer out????????

Claussens older brothers went to Westlake didnt they?
Oaks Christian is something like a 500 student school that plays most of its games vs schools that should be playing 8 man football. Oaks is supposed to play a pretty big non conf schedule this year so we will see what these kids are made of. 2 of Claussens team mates are coming to USC next year so there will be a lot of interest from Trojan fans to see those games.... one game I think is on TV but LAX may know better.
Most of the good players who come out of the CIF Southern Section come from Divisions 1-5 (5a and 4a schools) oaks Christian is I beleive Division 10.
One thing you have to realize though is that these kids dont get all this pub from just what they do in their games anymore. They are going to camps every year starting in 5th or 6th grade and in those camps they are competing vs the very best no matter what sized school they come from. Claussen may be destroying the Christian school league opposition and putting up god like numbers vs these kids but his #1 QB ranking is more based on what he does at Air 7, Nike and all the various College team camps he has been going to since before his balls dropped.

No neither of his older brothers went to Westlake. Casey went to Alemany and Rick went to Taft. If the small school argument is to be used against Jimmy then why is Pete Carrol offering guys like Mark Tyler, and the other kid...the DB? These kids can play. The problem is that their league is full of weak schools. I don't know how the CIF sets leagues and conferences but (I could be wrong) they used to do it by population and geographics. Size of school doesn't matter because if you're a private school you can get kids from everywhere. Mark Tyler lives in Antelope Valley which is about 100 miles from Oaks Christian. he lives with the Claussens during the week. Clay Matthew's son plays at Oaks. Clay coached at Agoura and had a kid also play at Agoura. There's another guy who I know who lives in the San Fernando Valley who played at Granada Hills before Elway whos son goes to Oaks. They're a private school and anyone can go there. That's both good and bad but it's the reality. These kids are good, in fact they're very good and they'll play at the next level regardless of who they play and what size the school is. If they were't that good the guys like Carroll and Weis wouldn't be recruiting them.
...and I don't know if their game vs. St. Bonaventure is on TV. I don't think Fox has their broadcast schedule set yet.

Believe the Heupel wrote:Beyond that, I don't believe your contention about small school players vice large school players in the NFL is correct. While many of the all-time greats came from D-1AA or D-II schools, the overwhelming preponderance come from large schools.

Let's look at the NFL Pro Bowl Rosters. Large School players in bold.

AFC

Marvin Harrison - Syracuse
Chad Johnson - Oregon State
Willie Anderson - Auburn
Jonathan Ogden - UCLA
Alan Faneca - LSU
Will Shields - Nebraska
Jeff Saturday - North Carolina
Antonio Gates - Kent State
Peyton Manning - Tennessee
Edgerrin James - Miami
Lorenzo Neal - Fresno State
Dwight Freeney - Syracuse
Derrick Burgess - Ole Miss
Marcus Stroud - Georgia
Jamal Williams - Florida State
Cato June - Michigan
Shawne Merriman - Maryland
Al Wilson - Tennessee
Champ Bailey - Georgia
Deltha O'Neal - Cal
Troy Polamalu - USC
Bob Sanders - Iowa

NFC Roster

Santana Moss - Miami
Steve Smith - Utah
Walter Jones - Florida State
Orlando Pace - Ohio State
Larry Allen - Sonoma State
Steve Hutchinson - Michigan
LeCharles Bentley - Ohio State
Olin Kreutz - Washington
Alge Crumpler - North Carolina
Matt Hasselback - Boston College
Shaun Alexander - Alabama
Mack Strong - Georgia
Julius Peppers - UNC
Michael Strahan - Texas Southern
Shaun Rogers - Texas
Tommie Harris - Oklahoma
Keith Brooking - Georgia Tech
Derrick Brooks - Florida State
Brian Urlacher - New Mexico
Jeremiah Trotter - Stephen F. Austin
Ronde Barber - Virginia
DeAngelo Hall - Virginia Tech
Roy Williams - Oklahoma
Darren Sharper - William & Mary

Out of 44 starting spots, exactly SIX went to non-D-1A players and of the 38 D-1 all but like two went to BCS conference schools. You just can't tell me that there's no correlation between going to a big-time football school and NFL success.
Actually, New Mexico and Kent State are D1A schools, but not BCS. You also bolded two players from non-BCS schools (Utah and Fresno State).

just because i counted the other week for a different purpose: the Broncos roster is about 2/3 players from BCS schools. I suspect that's probably pretty typical.
