I think UT will be working out some kinks...and tOSU will be the far more experienced team offensively. I was very impressed by Smith in the bowl game. I'll echo your score prediction, and offer a hand shovel for We're All Bevo.

I just hope OSU comes in hungry. I see Texas as a team who has something to prove. They don't have Vince to rely on but are also probably sick of hearing they can't do anything with out him. OSU better not under estimate this team.

Well before last year's game, no team had come into the Shoe at night and beat the Bucks. We were pretty proud of that, until Touchdown Jesus heaved that pass into the endzone (which in turn caused me to heave my lunch into the next row). Under Tressel, tOSU's record in away night games is not impressive. We're not too proud of that, and if ever there was a time for some redemption, now's it.

Still, Texas will probably be the underdog and that means tOSU better not stroll in thinking that this will be like the Fiesta Bowl. Tressel usually molds his teams to be at their best by season's end, so I don't expect a blowout of any kind. Lots of kinks to be worked out for both teams. Not going to pick a score yet, there's still a lot of time to analyze this one.

The two sides of this game are very interesting, On the one side you have a great tOSU offense vs a great Texas defense. This is worth the price of admission. The other side is not as great, you have Texas offense that will be pretty one dimentional vs a revamped tOSU defense long on talent but short on experience.

My opinion is this game will be won on side two more than side one. I expect the tOSU offense to put up around 17 earned points, but everything hinges on what happens with the Texas offense vs the tOSU defense. If Texas can avoid the turnovers and come up with some type of passing attack to keep the defense honest I see Texas winning this game. If they can't then this game could turn into a 31-14 blowout.

I hope to. My company is planning our National Sales Meeting in Germany for the 1st week of September. That would totally suck if they did. Hopefully we can get to Austin for this game.

It will be a good game. tOSU is going to run an offense similair to what UT ran last year. Remember, most of the players on this team went up against Vince in practice last year. This I feel gives them some hope against Troy Smith.

Our D will be salty. It will be tough for tOSU to run. Our offense is dependant on a passing game. If we can throw the ball for 200 yds we win. I think that the backfield is loaded and our O-line will be the best that tOSU sees all season.

We haven't lost in Austin in 3 years.

I will have a prediction during fall practices.

Also I believe that tOSU play Northwestern at night in 2002 in Evanston and even though they did not cover they still won...

Hmm, I would say the exact opposite is true. I think the "proven" parts of this game are OSU's offense vs. UT's defense. Whoever wins that matchup probably wins the game. I would say UT's offense will still be finding its way with a new QB while OSU's defense will be looking for replacments (like 9 out of 11 replacments). Thus, I figure the second pairing might be a wash as neither side will have found their groove (While UT does have a lot of returning players, they lost their leader). If UT's defense can contain Pittman, Ginn, Gonzalez and Smith, UT has a good chance to win. If not, I think we see Tressel's offensive "genius" come through (that might be an oxymoron).

Nice post, I was originally all-over OSU to have a field-day against a rookie qb. That was before I read in Phile Steele just how many guys OSU's D lost. OSU should have a solid D but not one like last year. Texas has the line and the backs to take some pressure off Colt. They need to hammer from the opening bell and look to wear OSU out. If it goes to the wire I like OSU's odds, they have a knack for winning close games and Smith could make his heisman candidacy in this game. Texas has home-field which will help against OSU's loaded offense. Tough game to call.

BTH-Despite that info being a little off, tOSU still has not been a good road/night team, especially under Tressel (0-3, 1-3 counting that '02 Northwestern game that _sc mentioned).

Which brings me to ponder this: I like to factor in a little reverse logic every now and again. And looking at last year, smart money would have been to take tOSU*, based on our then-perfect record in home night games (I don't know the percentage of those prior six games that we covered, but I'm pretty sure it was most of them). So now with the shoe on the other foot, I say maybe the Bucks prove us wrong two years in a row. :wink:

*And just to mention it, I did put money down on my team last year which is something I don't recommend to anyone-- just fucks up the karmic winds. I had a 1.5 hour stopover in Vegas before I landed in C-bus, and decided to take a quick cab ride over to MGM. Which makes me think now, because I won't have a Vegas stopover on my way to Austin this time and won't put any money down, that things will work out in my favor (socially, not financially).
