The new ESPN Monday Night Football broadcast team

Post by Luther »

Image

Several things first off. I'm not really going to discuss football per se, but to cast an opinion on the new Monday Night Football broadcast from the ESPN network. I only watched the first half last night and I actually wasn't disappointed. I did read this article before the broadcast where they interviewed Tirico on the Yahoo sports page.

Tirico said he'd be laid back and that he didn't want to be standing out from the game...that he just wanted to let the game be the focal point and not him talking. That is fine by me, but IMO Tirico was talking all the time during the first half. Seldom did I not hear his voice after the snap. I thought to myself, "Ah Mike, I'm sure your nervous, but dude, you're talking up a storm."

His voice seemed to blend in with the applause in the background, and in a close game I don't know how well that will pan out in the long run. Theismann was Theismann. I've never really had a problem with him and he definitely nailed some predictions. Kornheiser looks a little goofy, but he was knowledgeable. I think he'll be one of those guys you either like or don't like.

My grade for the broadcast: C

What say you?

Maybe he was trying to talk over the din of sweet and salty snacks.

The sweet and salty doesn't start until late Thursday, and it will continue through Saturday. Early ballot returns showing the grades to be all over the map.

The announcer guy was bland and inoffensive. Okay I guess. C+

Theismann was the same gibbering, blathering, ass-kissing sideman that he's always been. C-

Kornholer or whoever the fukk he is, sounds like a big-mouthed, no-nothing Cliff Claven type who should be on a barstool somewhere boring the fukk out of anyone within earshot. His constant attempts to try and draw Theismann into debates grew tiresome and I expected Dieter to come out and ask him to touch his monkey. His whining about how Minnesota would be hurt by the loss of Randy Moss and Culpepper showed how little he knows about the Vikings or football in general. As is so often the case in the sports media world, the guy with the biggest mouth often gets the most air time. Give him a Bud and some pretzels and send him back to his barstool, preferably in the corner somewhere near the jukebox. F-

Didn't see it, since preseason football is the lamest thing known to mankind outside of Missouri...

But I'll give it an F anyway.

By themselves, either Theisman or Kornholer are enough to induce fits of violent rage. Put them together...I might have to choke a bystander, just to relieve some angst.

Fucking A...who are they going with next year? Rosie O'Donnell and Oprah?

On a side note then...what are Al Michaels and John Madden doing? I don't keep up with broadcast teams during the off season.

Kornheiser must have thought last night was a 3 hour special of PTI because as it was pointed out earlier, he tried to debate Theisman on everything. I was waiting to see if Tony would try and argue if Theisman actually broke his leg while playing.

Seriously is that what Kornheiser thinks his role is? Theisman can make a jackass out of himself without anyone's help and yet some how Kornheiser was helping Joe IMPROVE his image.

When are the networks going to stop ramming this 3 men in the booth crap in our face anymore. It's pointless because everyone on tv wants to throw out predictions and extol their so- called football knowledge when in reality they don't know shit.

The guy that should be in that booth is Ray Didinger. I am biased because he is local but he is in the NFL Hall of Fame for reporters, works for NFL films and calls it like he sees it.

I voted INC...how can you judge something after just one game? We seem to be too much into the idea of forming opinions after just one experience. I'll give it a chance throughout the season but I'm leaning towards the side of not liking this team. They have to win me over. As long as the games are good, I don't care who the three guys are in the booth.

Exactly. You could turn the volume all the way up, and I still usually (unintentionally) block all the talk out, because I'm focusing on the game. But that doesn't mean I don't have opinions on who they stick in the booth.Theisman is good, but too polished. I've never heard him talk like a real person. I have no issues with Tirico (always enjoyed his CF games), and Kornholer? I don't think he'll find his niche - whether it be a jester or Theisman-ankle-biter.

And it probably wouldn't bode too well for Kornheiser to be telling a Super Bowl winner how the game is played. That'd be like me giving Y2K pointers on how to make bricks.

I found the entire team as vacuous as cheap aerosol hairspray, and just as memorable. There aren't three football-savvy people alive that could jack up a football broadcast any more than is being done now. We've had pro broadcasters, writers, comedians, political pundits, ex players, coaches, and pieces of fluff on the sideline, and it's as worth listening to as that irritating yapping noise that toy dogs make when they get too frustrated chasing butterflies.

What you have to do to make it more interesting, is cut the chat, cut the commercials, take the play clock to 20 seconds between plays, and be out of that broadcast in 2.5 hours tops. I actually remember reading that Chris Berman makes over $3 Mill a year! I've seen more intelligent creatures than him lying on their backs on the bottom of ponds (Name that quote source!).

It all sucks, and I regret that I wasted ten minuted waiting for my pizza to cook listening to their inane, and patently obvious drivel. i should have been taking a crap instead.

D-, and that only ranks that high because of Theisman's wardorbe.

It's nice to see there's been a change in the SCIII (what's left of it) consensus about Phony Kockheister. Used to be he had lot's of fans in our fair community because he (his "show" producer, actually) caused a meltdown in their least favorite radio host, Jim Rome, around 6 years ago.

Why, there was even a MyTonyKornheiserTroll. Yay.

I'm sure the "pre-empting of Junior Fuckstein" incident on AM 980 is the only thing folks outside the Balt/DC area really knew of the eternal asshole, Kockheister, at that point.

Back in the day he was responsible for the wasting of valuable print and air time in 'Skins land. He didn't want sports takes from callers. He wouldn't talk about the games themselves, only what his subjective experience was while the game was going on. He wouldn't talk to players or coaches; he would interview other sportswriters... check that: he would interview actual sportswriters. That was when he would deign to talk sports at all. Worse thing of all, with respect to his newest SCAM: when he spoke coherently of sports at all, it was baseball of all things that he appeared to know anything about.

Really, regarding Kockheister, there's not enough time to catalogue all that is fukking foul. And truly, for him, there is not enough hate in the world.

Fixed. And Ditto for that asshat, Theesman. That guy makes the Disney Channel look brilliant.

I've posted this before and I'll post it again: The mind-reading skills which Theesman can't help but blather in every fucking game he does are simply [sarcasm] amazing. [/sarcasm]

"Right now, what's going through Dante Culpepper's mind is ... "

"What Trent Green is thinking now is ... "

I'm surprised ESPN doesn't introduce Hank III and his "all star band" with a side tent featuring Theesman the magnificent: Mind Reader.

Just die already, egomaniatic freak.
Fork-lift driving dumbfuck wrote:Just threaten to ignore them
This thread is a commentary about ESPN's MNF debut. A big part of it is the announcers, especially because they insist on becoming a part of it, because they NEVER FUCKING SHUT UP.

Memo to ESPN: No, it won't bother us a bit if Theesman stops and takes a breath in between telling us what Randy Moss is thinking or what's going through Tom Brady's mind, nor would it kill us to have Tony Kornholer remain silent about this year's "Dancing with the Stars" contestants. We'll still watch the game. We promise.

Sincerely,

Every single NFL fan, and everyone else too.

Btw, for those who think "Well it's just preseason ...", get used to it. MNF is only going to get worse, as these fucktards start feeling more "comfortable" at being "themselves" in the booth.

NONE of them, with the possible exception of Tirico -- maybe a loooong time ago -- has ever done radio play-by-play.

i.e. None of them have any business being on national television, "calling" a game.

E.
O.
S.

Have ESPN give the fans a channel with NO announcers, NO sideline reporters, NO "touching" "feature" stories, nor freak "all star" bands, music videos, and all of the rest of the complete bullshit they try to pass off as "entertainment." How about a channel with only crowd noise and the actual game?

Think many people would opt for that?

That is a very disingenuous flubbing at spelling smack. That word has been "misspelled" hundreds, nay, thousands of times on message boards. Ya see Magoo, sometimes there exists light traffic here that leads to, yup, you guessed it, BOARD DUMB.

See folks, this is a perfect example of why spelling smack should never be used.
