That's pretty cool. If I remember correctly, tOSU honored Woody Hayes at halftime during last year's game by putting up a banner next to all the past Heisman winners.

back in the late 70's when I was a young guy Earl is the real reason I started to love football. Until I watched him play I never really like watching the game, I loved playing but I couldn't watch it. He was larger than life in Texas. Back about 3 years ago I stopped off one evening to watch a pre-season scrimmage. I watched him get out of the golf cart and seeing him struggle to just walk brought tears to my eyes. His body is shot, he can't walk and he lives in constant pain. I tell you it's like watching a war veteran that is missing half their body.

88,

I was lucky enough to do business with Earl.

I was doing the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in Houston...

When one of his boys came up and bought four of my chimes. He came back later, and asked if I wanted to meet Earl?

I ended up talking with Earl for a good four hours... and we ended up making a trade for two more chimes... and all I could eat at his booth. Yes, Earl is a "Renaissance Man".

Things I took away from meeting with him...

Poor speech...

Had a hard time walking...

Was shorter than I expected, about 5' 8 and not as big as I thought.

He was a country boy... and we never talked football.

Very down to earth... and concerned about others.(Why I came away with mucho respect for the man).

Long live! The "Tyler Rose"!!!

Earl was about 5'10 or 5'11 in his playing days but I think he has had a few operations and had bone removed from his legs. And as you probably know old people shrink except me I have gotten longer :D

I'll always be a fan of Big Earl, sip or not. I was a fan of Earl before I was a fan of A&M as I was a fan of the Houston Oilers. My mom's cousin is Earl's partner in Earl Campbell Sausage. One of my most prized possessions is a football signed "To IndyFrisco - Earl Campbell"

It sits atop my memoribilia display case in my home office. Just about every friend I've shown my office to has commented on how cool that football is. Definitely so sad what has become of him.

him or Billy Sims as far I'm concerned.

i remember a SI issue when i was a kid with a tailor's tape measure around Earl's thigh....that read like 36" or some crazy nonsense. he was a badass mofo.

Two things

I remember seeing an interview with Earl while he was working out. Part of his workout was to jog along this rocky hill, he did it to strengthen his anckles. Well since it was good enough for Earl I tried it and tore up my left anckle so badly I had it in a brace for 4 weeks.

The other thing I remember about Earl was an Urban Legend that he was so muscle bound if he got into a swimming pool he would sink straight to the bottom. Not sure if that was true but it was a good story to tell the kids.

Learn how to spell ANKLE

jk vito...

Earl was a bad mofo...damn...you know the other guys in that mode outside of simms that were bad mofos in terms of running over people like that to me were Herschel and Bo...kind of in that Campbell mode wouldn't you say?

that will be a special night for earl...good for him and sweet moment for Texas fan...now I hope since tOSU honored woody last year and lost that the kharma reciprocates...

I would say Hershal in college was like Earl but in the pros he was a bit of a pussy. I can't say I blame him since he doesn't have the health problems that Earl has now.

Earl is the poster boy for what happens when a team over uses a single player.

One of the trends I like about college football now is that more and more teams are using a runningback by committee. I think this will transfer to the same thing in the NFL.

I would not want to wish Earl's current health on anyone.
