Venezuela Dictator Vows To Bring Down U.S. Government

Venezuela government is sole owner of Citgo gasoline company

Venezuela Dictator Hugo Chavez has vowed to bring down the U.S. government. Chavez, president of Venezuela, told a TV audience: "Enough of imperialist aggression; we must tell the world: down with the U.S. empire. We have to bury imperialism this century."

The guest on his television program, beamed across Venezuela, was Cindy Sheehan, the antiwar activist. Chavez recently had as his guest Harry Belafonte, who called President Bush "the greatest terrorist in the world."

Chavez is pushing a socialist revolution and has a close alliance with Cuban dictator Fidel Castro.

Regardless of your feelings about the war in Iraq, the issue here is that we have a socialist dictator vowing to bring down the government of the U.S. And he is using our money to achieve his goal!

The Venezuela government, run by dictator Chavez, is the sole owner of Citgo gas company. Sales of products at Citgo stations send money back to Chavez to help him in his vow to bring down our government.

Take Action

Please decide that you will not be shopping at any Citgo station. Why should U.S. citizens who love freedom be financing a dictator who has vowed to take down our government?

Very important. Please forward this to your friends and family. Most of them don't know that Citgo is owned by the Venezuela government.

YOU CAN VERIFY THIS ON THE CITGO WEB PAGE.

The Citgo on the way to work always has the lowest price on gas...that's the main reason I go. American's do work at these stations...I wouldn't want to contribute to putting Americans out of work. My $25-30 every 10 days doesn't make me un-American. The ability to choose which merchants to go to for our goods is our right as Americans. I wouldn't stop people from going there but I would frequent the other stations in my area when they have the lowest price on the day I need to fill-up. I still go to Speedway once or twice a week for coffee and the occasional fill-up.

From snopes...
Neither a "buycott" nor a boycott is likely to accomplish much beyond the symbolic. In the first case, the Citgo brand (marketed by Citgo Petroleum Corporation, which has been owned by Petróleos de Venezuela,
the national oil company of Venezuela, since 1990) doesn't have nearly enough presence in the U.S. to satisfy demand; in the second case, boycotting a gasoline brand over political issues is problematic for a number of reasons (not least of which is the notion that threatening not to buy gasoline from someone who is threatening not to sell it to you doesn't sound like an effective ploy for either side).

Although Citgo may be owned by Petróleos de Venezuela, it is a formerly American company which is still headquartered in the U.S. (in Houston, Texas), employs 4,000 people, and supplies 14,000 independent retailers with gasoline and other petroleum products — Americans with no substantive connection to Venezuela who would be economically harmed by such an action. (Citgo also provides free or discounted heating oil to low-income communities and tribal reservations within the United States.) And, of course, in today's oil market Citgo could likely find alternative buyers for its products far more easily than the U.S. could make up the shortfall created by a cut-off of Venezuelan oil.

As we've noted in many other articles discussing various schemes regarding where and how people should purchase gasoline, the global and fungible nature of the world oil market doesn't really provide consumers with many effective opportunities to influence political issues through their buying patterns.

Maybe I'll make a point of going to Citgo just to piss off the right people.

How about starting by taking down that eyesore Citgo sign just above the Green Monster at Fenway.

I think it's Peter Tork.

I will spend the extra 2-3 cents a gallon to go to Shell or somebody else other then Citgo.

Uh, Neely, first of all, Chavez is not a dictator at al. He is duly elected (unlike cheney 'n Chimp who stole both their elections), and moreover--HE'S TELLING THE TRUTH!!!

What part of his description of Bush and U.S. policy in the region do you dispute?

Do you know ANYTHING of the heavy-handed interventionist policies of the U.S. in Central and South America over the past 100 years--let alone of the failed U.S.-sponsored coup attempt against Chavez in 2002?

Of course you don't.

As for Cindy Sheehan, her courage and loss are the stuff of real character--something else of which you know nothing.

Not too many Citgos up here, and their gas is more expensive than what Maverik (Montana based oil company) and Costco charge.

Looks like Citgo decided to sell out its share at the top after all.

I had just seen a UBS review last week that said both Lyondell & Citgo were happy at the refinery earnings and decided not to sell - and that bids they did see were along the markets estimated $20,000/BBL range (~$5.4 Billion).

Lyondell Chemical Co. has reached an agreement to buy the minority shareholding of Citgo Petroleum Corp in a refinery located in Houston, official sources reported Wednesday. The subsidiary of state-run oil holding Petróleos de Venezuela (Pdvsa) based in the United States and Lyondell shared ownership of the facilities.

Lyondell expects to announce officially over the next few days the agreement that makes it the only owner of the refinery of 270,000 bpd. The facilities are near Houston navigation channel, the officials added, as quoted by Reuters.
First Katrina-ites, now the Venezuelans. Looks like we'r ripe for a devastating Hurricane through H-town.

Chavez is in your domes. Deeply.

I wish we had a Citgo here in Canada. We do however have PetroCanada, the state owned petrolium company,
although they don't give nearly enough money to Hezbollah as I would like.

Long live the Bolivarian Revolution, and down with the bourgeois mercantilists preying on the worker.

Rack 7-11. That'll effect the bottom line slightly more than Shoalzie switching to Speedway.
