Washington at USC

Post by BuddyFramm »

I have no idea what to expect this Saturday. USC hasn't impressed me very much this year and they don't seem to be playing with the same confidence as they have in the past. That being said, they are very talented and they're due to break out in a huge way and that worries me. If the game was in Seattle I'd feel much better about our chances. In LA, I'm not sure. I know most of you will predict SC to kick our asses and it may very well happen but this isn't the same Huskies team you've seen the last two seasons. I'm not ready to make a prediction yet but I can't honestly see myself predicting a win. I'm a Husky fan but I'm also realistic. I do think we have a chance to win the game. We can't dig a big hole to climb out of though like we did against UCLA. If the Huskies are within a TD at halftime I think they have a great chance to win the game. Any thoughts from SC fan or anyone else for that matter???

This is by no means a lock for us. Our team is young and playing like it. I suspect the secondary is going to come out stronger this week, after being embarassed by WSU. The offense is still streaky. I honestly think we'll lose a game or two in conference, just not sure it will be at home.

The fact that Ty Willingham is UW's coach is a plus from my perspective.

Yes it is, based solely on this:

My guess would be by about 31 points

Dude, you gotta let go of the Ty Willingham thing. Anyone who won't admit that he's done a great job at UW is blinded by their hatred of him. This team is vastly improved in every way possible. I'd argue that he has done a better job with this Huskies team than Charlie has done with this ND team. You guys were a Michigan State meltdown away from a FireCharlieWeis.com website. At some point you have to give Ty some credit for what he is doing at UW. He has a 4-1 record against the 11th ranked schedule in the country. They are very close to being ranked after three wins in the last two years. What does he need to do to get some credit for job he's done? Could be that he is just better suited to Pac 10 football than he was for ND.

My animosity towards Willingham has less to do with on field results than it does with how those on field results were reached and how he acted for three straight years. He was a lazy recruiter and hired incompetent assistants, yet placed all the blame squarely at the feet of his players.

He's better suited for the Pac 10 because it's a shitty conference and he is a shitty coach.

How do you account for his results so far at Washington then? Same lazy recruiter and many of the same incompetent coaches that ruined ND. Washington's players seem to be greatly improving under Willingham and his staff. His players stay out of trouble, they graduate, and the team is winning again. I think he's doing a hell of a job. I've had a couple of interactions with him and I found him to be a genuinely friendly person and very likable. I consider myself a big supporter of Coach Willingham and what he's doing at UW. I haven't seen his downside yet. If I do, I'll be the first to admit it and own up to it.

If you know anyone at the local golf course around Husky stadium, ask him how many times Ty has been out there without reporting the round or without appearing on the play sheet from that day.

My guess is that you guys have played a decent schedule, but the teams you've played have been generally underwhelming this season. That, or you have a freakish disparity in the turnover margin going in your favor.

My guess is that you guys will stumble down the stretch because he relies on his coordinators too much. Something he has to do because he himself has never been a coordinator at any level. You may or may not make a bowl, and Ty will continue to have never had a bad day in his life.

Actually our opponents have 6 turnovers and UW has 9. Interestingly our opponents have fumbled 10 times but lost only one. I guess we need to do some loose ball drills.

I think USC will keep the streak at home alive.

USC hasn't lost a game at the coliseum since JK McKay and Pat Haden (allegedley) spread John McKays ashes on the USC sideline in October of 2001
