I love Indiana football!

Post by TheJON »

I'm heading to Bloomington on Saturday for the Iowa-Indiana game and we called the IU Ticket office to find out that we can get 4 tickets for $88. That comes with 4 hot dogs, 4 popcorns, and 4 cokes. Some sort of Family 4-pack.

Let me say that again..... We're getting 4 tickets to a major college football game for 88 fucking dollars! And we get lunch along with it. Wow, that is really pathetic. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining. Cheap = good. But that just goes to show how bad of a football program Indiana is. Face value tickets to the Iowa-Montana game this year were $50. This is a conference game.

I have been to a lot of road trips to other Big-10 stadiums and this is by far the cheapest ticket I have seen. Indiana must really be desperate for fans to sell you a ticket for $22 with grub included. On top of all of that, I'm going to get to see Iowa drop a 40 point ass kicking on the Hoosiers! I was at least expecting a $30 ticket without the grub.

Are any of your football programs so desperate for fans that they use a baseball type promotion (such as this) to get fans?

If you were smart you would have just gone to Bloomington and paid a scalper $10 a ticket and saved yourself some money.

I've never seen a scalper sell for more than $5 unless it is the Purdue game. Then it is usually $7-$8.

I didn't get screwed as we haven't actually bought the tickets. But reading this, maybe I'll just buy them off a scalper. And that is some serious smack, Harvdog......fat chick smack. Man, where'd you come up with that!? Frickin' epic......err lame. One or the other.

You've never been to Iowa, so shut the fuck up. If you spend a night in Iowa City and come out thinking there's just a bunch of fat and ugly chicks than you're gay. Iowa is a hidden goldmine of hot women. Obviously compared to states like Florida and Cali, that seems like a retarded statement. But per capita, there isn't a better state for hot women than Iowa.

We've got a decent portion of fatties, but that's okay because that just means when douchebags like Harvdog pass through town, they might actually have a chance to get laid. Think of it as our way of showing the tourists a little bit of hospitality.

Stadium seats a little over 52K. Outside of tO$U and Purdue home games average attendance in the 25K range when the weather is still nice, 15-18K when the weather is cold. Sad but true.

I may or may not attend this game as I'll be in town the night before for Midnight Madness. Haven't locked in any Saturday plans as of yet. But like others have mentioned, if I want tickets I can simply grab a cheap one day of.

Oh yeah, and I've gotta agree with Skull. Jon may have dropped some serious pearls of jizzdom on us in the past but his "Iowa has the hottest women" blast might be the topper.

Shine,

Where is there a good place to stay close to Bloomington Friday night? I would not mind going to the Midnight Madness if I can get in town early enough. It's possible we may not stroll into town until 2am, but I'm hoping not. Called motels, but everything in Bloomington is booked up. I guess the other Hawkeye fans making the roadie locked them all up.

Or all the out of town Hoosier fans who show up for Midnight Madness. Bloomington is prolly booked solid and you're talking at least a 20 minute drive outside of that. Maybe try the Martinsville area.

Well, I know a few Iowa fans that are staying in Bloomington and I've read on Iowa's message boards that many have rooms booked in Bloomington. Most of the people we're going with are staying in Indianapolis as this seems to be the closest place with more than a couple of hotels with vacancies. I don't mind that, but if we stay in Indy that means I can't go to Midnight Madness and I've always wanted to check out Assembly Hall and this is probably my best chance to do that. How many people show up for that? You guys don't actually pack the arena for it, do you?

Attendance for MM varies, and the last 2 years have been low with so many fans over the Davis error, but my best guess for this Friday is 10-12K. With the ESPNU cameras in town though that estimate might be low. And if rumblings of an Eric Gordon decommit from Illannoy/commit to IU prove true then that number will easily top 15K.

Careful...he might try to swordfight with you.

You should get a T-shirt made that says JON=BITCH for the meeting...and do one of those *psyche* handshake moves.

Seriously...get a picture of JON. So far, this is how I picture him:

But he probably looks more like this:

I'll be sure to go up to random dorks in Iowa gear and say "he John". If I get a blank stare, I'll know to move on to the next dork.

Seriously...having a hard time getting a babysitter. Might not get to go. Oh well, that just means I get to watch the A&M/Mizzou game live instead of on TIVO.

No reason for IF to pass up an opportunity to chug a nice Pinot Noir with Jonboy.

What makes you think a dork with a blank stare won't be Jon?

On a slightly different topic, a friend of mine bought tickets to the Michigan - Indiana game for later this season. This is our every two year unity get together. He works for the Republicans I work for the Democrats and we go some where to celebrate the end of the election.

I am rather reluctant to go to Bloomington because I have never really heard anything about it. Is there anything to do in this town? Will this be a good time?

It's definitely different. I got into Bloomington just about when the OSU game was starting last year and I saw a lot of people tailgating. What I noticed, though, was that nobody had the game on. Everyone was just hanging out, drinking, grilling, playing drinking games and such but there were no TVs and everyone was listening to music, not football.

It was a little weird.

Oh, there are just as many people outside the stadium than in the stadium. Shitty fan following they have, but they know how to party outside the stadium is all I was pointing at.

And...they even let you leave the stadium and then come back in. The stadium practically empties at halftime so people can go have a few beers during the half. About 20-30% never return from halftime. The rest get back halfway through the 3rd quarter.

Oddest fucking "game" atmosphere you''ve ever seen. It's pathetic really.

From what I saw when I actaully went to Iowa there was more than a decent portion of fatties. I am not by any means saying there aren't a few hot chicks in Iowa, there are. But if you want to compare the talent in Iowa to Texas, I will take that bet. I was there for a meeting about a year ago and I swear I have never been more disappointed in the chicks except for Michigan.

Have you ever been to Texas Jon? I doubt it.

Jon, take some advice. Read your posts before you hit enter. Have one of your "cool" friends read them too. That way you can get a second opinion before you the board bitch award is renamed "The Jon" award.

Sad, but true. Although back in the "glory days" under Bill Mallory when IU actually went to bowl games on a relatively consistent basis the atmosphere was much different.

And if you watch an IU/tO$U game on TV with the mute button you'd think we had an awesome crowd.

Ditto. My first two years here I got season tickets...just because I'm a football fan....and rarely went. Best I could do to unload IU-OSU tickets was 10 beans.....for the pair! It's sad because there are a TON of Indiana fans that just want semi-respectable football and would fill the place if it ever happened. I went a couple weeks ago to see Wisconsin. Left at halftime (35-0). Didn't return. Why?

Blind-
IU/Bloomington is great. I moved here from Dallas 4 years ago and don't want to go back. And I loved Dallas. The football game? Pffft.....should be over before the 1st qtr. ends but you'll have fun here. Town has everything...freaks, rednecks, hotties, grub, grog, music, etc.
