could be interesting but to be honest the Texas squad is going to get bitch slapped. The key here is that it is only seniors, thus no Adrian Peterson, or Drew Tate, the only QB from Texas I can think of is Thompson. The oline will be pretty good and the DEs will be killer but they are lacking in a lot of positions.
I think the game will be a lot more fun if it was Texas v Florida or California.

You have no idea how many top Texas players OU had from 2k3 that didn't pan out. Wait, yes you do know. Didn't that whole class fizzle out?
that list also points to the fact that the Texas defensive backfield is going to be a huge liability next year. Even though we are losing two DE Texas is stacked with about 4 others that are damn good. Brian Orakpo, Lamarr Houston, Eddie Jones, and Aaron Lewis.
Our oline will finally have a dropoff but it won't be as big as some might seem Texas is right now running 8 deep on the online and will have some good/great starters but depth will need to be redeveloped. Next years starters will be Tony Hills and Adam Ultaowski at OT, Dallas Griffin at Ce and JaMarcus Webb and Ced Dockery at OG.

I seem to remember Florida doing something like this. Maybe it was high school kids...don't remember.

The problem in that regard, imho, is competition from other games. You already have the Hula Bowl and the Senior Bowl, no? There used to be the Blue-Gray game as well, but I think that one bit the dust. In any event, given the timing of the Blue-Gray game, you could only play in that one if your team wasn't playing in a bowl game.King Crimson wrote:i can't see top players playing in this game. In a vacuum, that's absolutely correct.88 wrote:If this were legit, Tejas would get slapped 99-0. Just sayin. Texas has some good talent, but if you could truly form a team from the other 49 combined, it would be like a Pop Warner team taking on the Pittsburgh Steelers.
However, there are a variety of other all-star games available for college seniors. The Hula Bowl, Senior Bowl, and East-West Shrine Game, just to name a few off the top of my head.
My guess is that this game will cajole/entice/whatever it takes to get as many of the top Texas kids as possible to play here, but won't make the same pitch as to the others. Given the inherent mismatch in the scenario on a perfectly level playing field, they can get away with it.

The point is that it is a chance for Seniors to show off what they can do and move up in the draft. Like KC said, do you really think those 1st round guys are going to play in this game? I doubt the 2nd round guys do.
From what I understand about these type of games it is the practices that the NFL scouts go to, the game is just fluff for the fans.
