My Annual Muck Fichigan Post

Post by TheJON »

Okay Meechigan fan,

Give me your picks.

I say Michigan 42 Iowa 13.

We are going to be without half our team due to injury and the starters that are playing are pretty banged up. Game is in the Big House (even though the Big House sounds more like a Library than a 100,000+ seat football stadium on gamedays compared to Kinnick), and we just cannot play on the road. On top of that, half our fucking team is injured. I've lost count of how many starters are either out or would be out with injury if we were playing a shitty opponent. At safety, we've got Marcus Paschal most likely back and he is one of the best safeties in the country. The problem is his 2 backups are out with injury (both of whom are quality backups) and he is not even close to 100% himself. On the offensive line, we're without our starting LT. We're moving Marshall Yanda to LT from RT and placing a walk-on in at RT that has very little experience. At center, we're still without our starting center. Defensive line is still banged up pretty good. Our best DT is questionable and he didn't play against IU. 2 of our 3 top ends are pretty banged up. Even our kicker is not completely healthy!

Michigan is a very physical team that has incredible talent and athleticism. We are a banged up team that doesn't have even close to as good of athletes as Michigan right now.

The one thing that is encouraging is the fact that, win or lose, we always play Michigan tough. 2-2 in the last 4 and all of the past 8 or 9 Iowa-Michigan games have been down to the wire (except 2002 when Iowa drilled Michigan 34-9). Most of those games Iowa actually blew a halftime or 4th quarter lead.

But still, I just think history will not help Iowa on Saturday. Michigan is playing too well to struggle with a team like Iowa right now.

Upsets do happen (see Indiana last week), but I am not expecting it. But still, I'll be cheering my ass off for the Hawks to pull the upset.

And win or lose.....

JON,

One thing I've noticed from your posts is that there's always a catch. Whether it's a lining of subtle or blatant excuses (pre or post game), or cheap shots at other teams, fans, etc., there's usually something there.

Most teams are "not completely healthy" at this stage of the season. Michigan is going to dryfuck you this year regardless of your team's health, and I've got to believe you even know it.

I remember the 97 game. Right before the half Tim Dwight ran back a punt stunning UM and taking I think a 21-7 lead into the lockerroom. The defense took over in the second half and UM continued its undefeated season.

As I've stated on this board since September, this team reminds me a lot of that great team. The smothering defense, the unspectacular, yet clock grinding ball controll offense. The main difference is that this team has more natural talent on the offensive side of the ball than DeBords previous undefeated run. Better RB's, WR's, and QB.

Until the fateful day in November, Michigan will be playing games against teams with inferior atletic talent. No slight on the other teams, UM is just loaded. It's up to the coaches and players to take each game and avoid complacency, shouldn't be a problem following the 7-5 campaign of last year.

Michigan will harrass Tate all day, if he manages to keep his cool after taking hit after hit, the score will stay respectable. DeBord's teams don't really put teams away the way I'd like. They're more about T.O.P. and keeping the opposing D on the field, wearing them down and pulling away in the second half.

UM 31
IOWA-13

Michigan 31, Iowa 14...I'm being a little more generous than Steve, not by much though.

Healthy Iowa....

Michigan 27
Iowa 17

Unhealthy Iowa....

Michigan alot
Iowa a little

But nice try and your parts trying to say I'm making excuses. Shit, we'd lose either way. Happy? I was just saying the reason we'll get absolutely destroyed is because of all the injuries.

I agree with Jon. Hell, if ISU wouldn't have had injuries against Iowa, they would have won. If Berryman wasn't in the bar underrage, he's still be on the team. If Robertson would have stayed away from illegal supplements, he would have been on the team and made a few touchdown saving tackles vs. Nebraska and they would have won. If Troy Davis would have been born later he could have scored vs. Texas. If my aunt had nuts, she'd be my uncle.

Minorthreat,

What about Blaise Bryant? He could have helped you guys out against Iowa too.
