OK, so I am about a week and a half late due to work sending me overseas. I went to the ATM vs Mizz game and wanted to make a couple of notes. We went to midnight yell practice and then tailgated before attending the game. Overall, it was an exciting game but I thought Missouri's coach cost his team the game. Some of this may be glass dick but humor me.
First of all, despite the crap they take and even though it is a little cheesy, yell practice was cool. The simple fact that you can get 20000 or 30000 fans to show up at midnight is cool. And it wasn't all students, I saw a lot of families and many who looked like your normal grad back in town for the game. The yelling, chants and movements were slightly obnoxious but were very much a "we fully support our team" kind of approach which was cool. It was nice to see CFB fans selling out for their team who most expected to lose. And really, I imagine most CFB traditions are a little corny to opposing fans but I found a new respect for ATM after yell practice.
During the game, the stadium was loud (I compare everything to the shoe so it wasn't really loud) and the swaying back and forth was really cool. It honestly made you feel like the entire stadium was moving. The fans did well to get up and Missouri did well to let them stay in the game.
Missour did not look near as dominant as their poll and stat rankings might have lead one to believe. They were on the losing end of a few bad calls but their coach made some horrible decisions. The fake FG on 4th and 9 was a horrible horrible decision. UM didn't throw a deep ball in the second half when it was working so well in the first half. Their defense looked suspect and let up two deep balls that really (IMO) made the difference in the game. The defense was sometimes too aggressive and other times looked like a 1AA team that was simply over powered. I would chalk this loss up to a very poor coaching job where UM should have walked away with close win.
Kyle is a cool stadium and the campus is quite beautiful. We went to the Dry Bean, the Chicken, and a few others on the "have to" list I got from my buddy. We ate at Freebirds which really seemed like a poor man's chipotle. Overall, glad I got to see Kyle and for my second Big12 game, I like your fans more and more each game.
