ND will have odd rooting interests today

Post by SoCalTrjn »

For Notre Dame to have a shot to reach the BCS title game they will need to cheer for USC and Michigan today.

If Michigan loses and Notre dame wins out, Michigan still goes over Notre Dame since Notre Dame lost at HOME to Michigan by 25 points, so for Notre Dame to have a shot Ohio State needs to lose today

In game 2 Notre Dame will need USC to beat Berkley so when Notre Dame goes in to Los Angeles the Trojans are the #2 team. If USC loses, it takes away a quality win for the Irish if they are able to beat the Trojans next week. 1 loss Notre Dame having their only marquee win be over a 3 loss team will put which ever SEC team comes out with 1 loss in their title game vs the Big 12 champ

How does it sit with Irish fans that they need two of their more heated rivals to win today just to keep Irish hopes alive?

I don't buy it. One of the top 2 will fall today. If ND wins out and Florida loses then who's to say that ND still doesn't make it?

anyione with a brain says ND doesnt make it.
If Michigan loses they will be a 1 loss team, how do you send 1 loss Notre Dame to the title game over 1 loss Michigan when Notre Dames 1 loss was by 25 at home vs Michigan?

ND's shot just went out the window.

It's now down to USC, Michigan, Arkansas and Florida and the same logic that preclues ND will also preclude Arkansas if USC ends up with one loss.

If USC wins out, they're in.

The SEC winner gets in if USC loses somewhere.

If both USC and the SEC winner take another loss then Michigan is in...

Don't even bring up the Big East winner. Bare minimum, if everybody else loses then Michigan still gets in over the Big East winner.

Wait, so if $C wins out they go instead of Michigan? I'm sorry, losing on the road to the #1 ranked team means a little bit more than losing and being down by 20+ to an unranked team like Oregon State.

Who cares when the loss occurred? Who did the loss come against?

As an Irish fan, I find it hard to make a case for them to be ahead of Michigan.

Here's to hoping Florida wins out and gets the #2 spot instead

You also have to consider where the lost game was played and what the point differential of that loss. A 25 or 36 point loss at home is damning, and should knock any team out of BCS title game contention

Oregon State vs. Michigan......hhhhmmmmm which one is more embarrassing?
$C fan will claim that they were heroic vs. OSU because they came all the way back. Well what got you there in the first place?
Look at the ND-UM game...very uncharacteristic of ND and Quinn to turn the ball over so many times. ND still probably loses that game, but What if ND beats $C....well they just beat a top 2 or 3 team. Say $C is ranked #2 and ND beats them....well wouldn't they deserve to play Ohio State based on beating the #2 ranked team in the country and on the road?

ND lost to a ranked team. $C lost to an unranked team who got rolled by Boise St.

Vis a vis Michigan and a berth in the title game what difference would it make to ND if ND should beat USC?

ND got rolled by Michigan. ND CANNOT get in over Michigan and Arkansas CANNOT get in over a one loss USC, period. At this juncture those two things are written in stone.

If you're comparing ND and USC, well who cares at this point? That one'll get settled head to head Saturday.
