I keep hearing, here in SEC country mind you, that the Rose is very interested in OU and I believe they get first selection after the title game.

The Rose gets first choice of the non contracted "at large" teams. The contracted teams are the Pac 10 (Rose), Big 10 (Rose), Big XII (Fiesta), SEC (Sugar) and ACC (Orange) winners, all of whom will automatically go to those bowl games unless they're tabbed to go to the BCS title game.SunCoastSooner wrote:I keep hearing, here in SEC country mind you, that the Rose is very interested in OU and I believe they get first selection after the title game.
OU, as the Big XII champ who can't go to the title game, is contracted to the Fiesta. OU either beats Nebraska and automatically goes to the Fiesta or they lose to Nebraska and they fall completely out of the BCS picture. There's no possibility of OU going to the Rose this season. OU can't be an "at large" selection this year.

No. They're both "at large" teams and none of the BCS bowls will have two available "at large" spots. Exluding the title game all the BCS bowls will have at least one contracted conference tie in team.Jsc810 wrote:Is there a chance that ND will get to play Boise State?
Boise St's playing in the Fiesta against the Big XII winner. ND's playing in either the Rose or the Sugar.

News to me but if it's true, okay.War Stoops wrote:Actually, Van, we're hearing that the Rose can cut a deal with the Fiesta to send Oklahoma to Pasadena and Notre Dame to the Fiesta. I still think it's a long-shot but you never know.
Not exactly sure what would be in it for the Rose Bowl though to do that, since both the 10-2 media/tv ratings darlings Fighting Irish or the 10-2 and #5 ranked LSU Tigers would seem to be far more attractive teams to the Rose Bowl committee, but okay.
Come to think of it though, man, how funny would a Boise St-ND Fiesta match up be?? Bwaaahahaaa!!

Question, how can LSU be going to a BCS Bowl? They finished 3rd in the SEC, lost to Florida, but beat Arkansas.....I get it, but they aren't even playing for the conference title.....the loser of the SEC title game most likely will be going to the Citrus Bowl..... doesnt make sense.

#5 ranked team, and possibly #4 (and the SEC's highest ranked team) if Arkansas beats Florida, that's how...Tiberious wrote:Question, how can LSU be going to a BCS Bowl? Nothing would make me happier than seeing Florida get jobbed and not make a BCS Bowl. I really think Arkansas can win Saturday. Florida is good, but not impressive. They cant score over 26 points against a good defense, they cant score inside the 20 on a consistant basis.....There big plays this year saved them as well as South Carolina forgetting how to block people. I have this certain hate for the University of Florida that makes me want to go right out and kick there ass.Van wrote:#5 ranked team, and possibly #4 (and the SEC's highest ranked team) if Arkansas beats Florida, that's how...Tiberious wrote:Question, how can LSU be going to a BCS Bowl? I've never heard that either, although I do know that the BCS teams can adjust pairings once the bowls have made their selections. I always thought that the conference tie-ins were sacrosanct in that regard, however.Van wrote:News to me but if it's true, okay.War Stoops wrote:Actually, Van, we're hearing that the Rose can cut a deal with the Fiesta to send Oklahoma to Pasadena and Notre Dame to the Fiesta. The Rose Bowl figures to have two open slots, but it's a gimme that they take Michigan for one of them.
I still think the best place for us is the Sugar Bowl vs. the Florida-Arkansas winner. I've never once changed my stance on that.
LSU is still in the running to be an automatic qualifier, as is ND, for that matter. But both teams need lots of help to get there.Van wrote:Tiberious wrote:Question, how can LSU be going to a BCS Bowl? Ordinarily, LSU would be an automatic qualifier if they finish #4. However, if Michigan is #3, that would knock them out, at least as an automatic qualifier. In order for LSU to be an automatic qualifier, they need Michigan to be #2. In all likelihood, that means a USC loss to UCLA.
ND is within striking distance of #8, which would make them an automatic qualifier. Losses by Arkansas (vs. Florida) and Louisville (vs. UConn, this is a much longer shot) could get them there if they don't get leapfrogged by somebody else. I suppose it's possible that a loss by one of those teams combined with a few human pollsters changing their votes between ND and Boise State could also do the trick.
