Big 12 Honks...What Bowl Matchups Do You Want To See?
If you're like me, you've been looking at about a bazillion bowl-projection websites that have all manner of matchups for the Big 12. Mostly because I don't feel like working today, I thought I'd layout the matchups I'd like to see.
Fiesta Bowl - Oklahoma vs. Boise State: I actually hate this matchup but it is the most likely result of an OU win in the CCG. Therefore, I hope it happens. It's a no-win for Oklahoma but maybe the Sooners can use the game to make inroads in the all-important recruting ground that is Idaho. (Prediction: OU 35 - BSU 24)
Gator Bowl - Nebraska vs. Clemson: It would be good to see the loser of the OU/NU game rewarded for a solid season by getting a Jan 1 bowl. A Husker/Tiger matchup could be a shootout. (Prediction: NU 34 - Clemson 31)
Cotton Bowl - Texas A&M vs. Auburn: I'd hate to see Texas get the nod over A&M after losing to the Ags in Austin. Auburn would probably be a heavy favorite but Fran has some momentum. (Prediction: Auburn 21 - A&M 14)
Holiday Bowl - Texas vs. California: The only thing bad about this matchup is that I may actually have to root for the Horns. However, Texas is in a freefall and a loss to Cal would really take some of the 2005 shine off Mack Brown. (Prediction: Texas 42 - Cal 24)
Alamo Bowl - Kansas State vs. Iowa: What a nice job Ron Prince has done in his first year. Wildcat fans always travel well and I think K State would have a real shot at winning. (Prediction: Iowa 23 - KSU 17)
Insight Bowl - Missouri vs. Minnesota: To me, Missouri's always felt like a Big 10 wannabe. Who knows what team will show up with Pinkel at the helm. (Prediction: Missouri 17 - Minn 14)
Independence Bowl - Oklahoma State vs. Alabama: Wow, do I feel sorry for Bama fan that makes this trip. Okie State fan will travel en masse and Bama fan will quickly wonder why these orange-clad pricks are so high on themselves. Bama may be without a coach but no matter. (Prediction: Alabama 20 - OSU 19)
Texas Bowl - Texas Tech vs. Rutgers: For the "worst" of the Big 12 bowls, this could be a great matchup. I would love to see Leach destroy Rutgers to quiet the Big East love-fest. Unfortunately, the Tech defense is about on-par for the Big East. Close one. (Prediction: Tech 38 - Rutgers 35)

supposedly alden is trying to work the alamo commitee, guarente ticket sales, but facts are, that kst travels very well, MU doesnt, and are favs for the bid.
have to watch what bowl you wish for, the NFL network has a couple of the bowl games, and i believe the sun is one of them, so no tv for some of us. insight isnt bad, and its a espn gig i believe.
isnt that the one where they beat west virginia a few years ago?

What? No TV? That's not going to work. I'll defer to your judgement then and "settle" for the Insight if that's how it works out. At least it's not in Shreveport.Adelpiero wrote: have to watch what bowl you wish for, the NFL network has a couple of the bowl games, and i believe the sun is one of them, so no tv for some of us. insight isnt bad, and its a espn gig i believe.
charter has no nfl network, and they have 2 bowl games, both have big12 affiliation, so if insight is a espn gig, take it.War Wagon wrote:What? No TV? That's not going to work. nfl network has texas and insight bowl games. so even the motor city bowl would be a better bowl.

Well bowl rumors are as rampant as assholes...
Bill Byrne supposed to be sucking Holiday Bowl penis..he does it well..
Texass all about New Year's Day game in Dallas..will get there way for a Jan. 1 game..
Leaving NU in the Alamo because the Gator has no obligation to take a Big 12'er.
That would suck dick!
If NU beats OU, OU would have the Cotton or Holiday at their leisure...NU won't.

One current prediction is for Nebraska to go to the Cotton against Auburn. Could be fun to see bradhusker’s meltdown when Auburn rapes and ass dry fucks the Bugeaters.

correct me if i'm wrong but the only way that's possible is if the Gator passes on a Big XII team.PrimeX wrote:Looks like Texas made it to the all important ALAMO BOWL!!! WOOT!

ATM-Holiday?
UT Alamo?
toss a Gator pick in there and everyone bumps up a notch leaving Mizzou or Tech (I'd guess) in the Alamo Bowl (with a Tech lean because the ALamo will favor Texas teams for ticket sales IMO--which, in a sense potentially kind of screws the North teams)....though the word is ATM REALLY wants to go to the Holiday Bowl.

I don't think there's any way Texas ends up in the Alamo. That's why I was surprised to see Prime's comment. If Nebraska beats OU, the Sooners will head to the Gator Bowl, which will put Texas in either the Cotton or the Holiday. If OU beats Nebraska, the Gator will either exercise its option to pick before the Cotton and take Nebraska or pick 4th to get Texas. A Nebraska loss probably sends the Aggies to Dallas, the Huskers to San Diego, and the Horns to Jacksonville.King Crimson wrote:correct me if i'm wrong but the only way that's possible is if the Gator passes on a Big XII team.

Apparently, the Alamo wants Kansas State. I think the Cats will get the nod over Missouri and Tech.
The PAC has come up empty in their last 3 Holiday appearances. UT vs Kal would probably make it 4.PrimeX wrote:I'm rooting for a Holiday bowl appearance vs. Kal for the simple fact that I would like to sleep really, really late on New Years day to kill Mr. Hangover.
Matter of fact, last time a PAC team won the Holiday, it was Joey Harrington doing up...Texas.

I tend to think that if West Virginia beats Rutgers, the Gator Bowl will take West Virginia instead of a Big 12 team. If ND falls out of the BCS, I think it's a no-brainer that the Gator Bowl takes ND ahead of a Big 12 team.
I'd really like to see Nebraska vs. Cal in the Holiday Bowl, if only for a m2 vs. brad thread.

?
you know whats really funny about all of this?
the fact that you two idiots dont realize that nebraska would totally sodomize, emasculate, and butcher rape cal into a lifeless pulp,
cal is a completely crappy team, which plays in a faggish conf.
in fact, there are only about 4 or 5 teams in the country, who could beat NU in a bowl game, and cal is not one of them.

As I understand it the only way the Gators take a Big 12 team is if it is either Oklahoma or Texas.
Nebraska is all but a lock to either a BCS (if they beat OU) or the Cotton Bowl (if they lose). If Oklahoma beats Nebraska it puts Texas as the #2 Big 12 team. A&M has 3 conference loses Texas has 2. Of course this means nothing since the bowls can take anyone they want. As I understand it the Holiday bowl is hotly persuing the aggies they think they will travel a lot of people. The Cotton really likes Nebraska fans since they travel well and Texas has been there many many times. The Gator bowl would love to bring Texas or Oklahoma to Florida.

This is pretty much what I'm hearing as well. I don't understand why the Gator Bowl would want Texas and Oklahoma but not Nebraska. (Remember, they have an option to pick before the Cotton bowl.) You could argue that Husker fan travels better than OU and Texas fan.
I read somewhere that Texas would probably not be invited to the Gator Bowl if Georgia Tech loses the ACC CCG. A Yellowjacket loss would force the Gator Bowl to select Georgia Tech and Gator Bowl reps are concerned that Tech fans will not travel to Florida again so close to the CCG. They are also concerned that Texas fan will not travel. So, Hornfan, if you'd rather be in the Gator than the Alamo, pull for Georgia Tech. If they win, you'll get Clemson in the Gator.

Like I SAID...
Oregon has declined all invitations to bowl games.
I was kinda hoping I could just sliiiiide that one on by, and nobody would call "bullshit" until December 9th, or whenever they play that abomination.
Actually, doesn't matter. If a host city offers something cool, Duckfan will show up in force. If'n I'm not mistaken, Las Vegas actually has a little tiny bit of available entertainment, and I'm sure the organizers know Duckfan's reputation for showing up and partying nut-to-the-wall and spending a bunch of cayshe. It's provided them with some better bowls than they probably deserved over the years. Actually, a lot of fans are probably happier with the Vegas than the Sun(I think Bellotti owns a time share in El Paso by now).

As I understand it, the Gator Bowl can only take a Big 12 team twice in the next four seasons.
If that's the case, it would seem to me that the Gator Bowl would be best advised to wait for a season in which their Big East option is significantly weaker than the Big 12 option before utilizing such a pick. This is not that season.

Terry -- you're about a slow motherfucker, aren't you?
I didn't even click Goob's link, because I was already pretty freaking sure what it said -- that Oregon accepted an invite to the Vegas Bowl yesterday.
Of course, even without clicking his link, anyone besides a particularly dim bulb would have gathered that from my ensuing post about...Oregon in the Vegas Bowl.
Dumbass.
