I've been saying on other boards that LSU to the rose was likely for about three weeks now. I'm really hoping that it pans out for the Tigers. My mom said that she would send my dad and I there for xmas if they make it so i'm hoping she has to pay up.

I disagree. If USC were to shit the bed and lose to UCLA and UF beats Arkansas, UF would play OSU and the Rose Bowl would take the "traditional" B10/Pac10 match up of USC v. UofM. LSU would then likely get the Sugar Bowl (again, tradition) and play ND. I think the Fiesta and Orange are pretty much set at this point.

Anyways... I'd be pissed if I were Florida. When they beat Arkansas and still get left out of the BCS title game, that's gonna leave a sour taste in their mouth. Not to mention getting screwed out of the "runner-up" game against Michigan because the Rose wants the 3rd place finisher in the SEC. To top it off, they'll prolly get stuck playing a overrated Notre Dame team in the Sugar, who they will surely blow the fuck out, because that's what Notre Dame does in bowl games = get blown the fuck out. Notre Dame always seem to play teams much faster than them in January, and this will be no different.

Both of these make sense to me. The lone possible exception is that Michigan could wind up playing tOSU if USC loses to UCLA, even if Florida beats Arkansas.

But ND in the Rose against either Michigan or USC, and LSU in the Sugar against the Florida-Arkansas winner, never made much sense.

The Rose Bowl will already have one dog (as far as fan travel goes) in the game in Michigan, maybe they don't want to risk having another fan base that won't travel. LSU travels anywhere.

Same reason ND will get in. Money.

I was thinking more along the lines of this:

In such case, the bowl losing the No. 1 team gets the first replacement pick, and the bowl losing the No. 2 team gets the second replacement pick. If the Rose Bowl loses both the Big Ten and Pac-10 champions to the NCG, it will receive two replacement picks.

A bowl choosing a replacement team may not select any of the following:

A. A team in the NCG;
B. The host team for another BCS Bowl;
C. When two bowls lose host teams, then the bowl losing the number one team may not select a replacement team from the same Conference as the number two team, unless the bowl losing the number two team consents.

Add that to your post (criteria #2) and we see why UF cannot go to the Rose Bowl unless they lose the SEC championship. In that case, they will be left out all together.
