what do you mean "in conjunction with" It doesn't work on its own at all?

I believe what he means is that this software rips the dvd to your hard drive. You can run it through DVD Decrypt if you have problems reading the dvd and then write it to a writable dvd disk with DVD Shrink. Thats how I used to do DVD copies back when I did them.

Oh. I've never had the need to do any, but my brother in law is big on that shit.

Why anyone needs a copy of "while you were sleeping" is just a bit beyond me.

New Sony movies have a special encryption that Shrink and Decrypt can not break by themselves.. this software is needed to in those instances.
