What compels me to comment is that this time it's not the usual secular fanatic who's responsible for doing things that evict Christianity from the culture. No, on this sad and alarming occasion it's a deeply religious, well-intentioned rabbi who has unwittingly stumbled into a situation that will place his denomination (and mine) —Orthodox Judaism— in a terrible, negative light....

My understanding was that he is considered a great teacher, he just isn't the Messiah.... unless you're a Messianic Jew.

What's interesting is that this Rabbi -- who no more represents all Jews, than the Jew who made demands in the first place -- states that it's usually 'secular fanatics'. That's a powerful turn of phrase 'secular fanatics'.... it's like calling someone a 'fundamentalist atheist'; and yet isn't it possible to be either? and just as uncontrollably irrational in being either.

As for the guy who made the requests, I thought he just wanted a Menorah. So he should have been given a Menorah. Keep the Christmas tree. Add some holiday stuff in celebration of Kwanzaa, Ramadan, the Winter Solstice and a wink and a nod to the agnostes and atheists as well. Everybody else can make a request at the front desk for inclusion next year. Was it an exclusion issue, a money issue, or an ignorance issue?
