We're flooded with crap grown out of hayseed drainage ditchs. The price of the good stuff drives up the price of the stems and seeds that are everywhere.

Hemp and marijuana are from the same plant, Cannabis sativa L., though they are grown and processed differently. Some strains of the plant have little to no THC (hemp) while others have *high* counts (that'd be the mary jane). However, the only legal way to grow Industrialized Hemp is to get a permit from the DEA. Yeah, you can guess how often THAT happens. Why would does the government highly restrict such access to a plant that doesn't have any THC in it and therefore is not marijuana? What is the point of restricting it so tightly barely anyone can get the permit to grow it, when there are thousands of benefits from it (including Fuel and Clothing)?

Here's an example of our own produce;

Man grew strongest ever cannabis

A man has admitted growing what police described as the strongest cannabis ever found in the UK.

David Wyler, 55, of Poplar Avenue, Nottingham, admitted producing cannabis and possessing the drug as well as possessing amphetamines.

Tests on 500 cannabis plants seized at a house in Ilkeston, Derbyshire, showed they were the strongest ever found in the UK, Derby Crown Court was told.

Police believe he made £500,000 out of drugs. Wyler will be sentenced later.

The house in Ilkeston was entirely given over to producing cannabis plants, the hearing was told.

Test carried out by forensic scientists on the plants showed the THC content, a measure of the drug's strength, was 29%. The normal reading for cannabis is 12%.

Apparently corn futures are supposed to be a good bet due to the ethanol additive for gasoline. My wife's brother is considering converting his sugar beet acreage (which has been crap for a while) over to corn. This has been a tremendously good year for him as a farmer.

Hmmm....we could extract the corn oil and power vehicles with it...but that cuts out too many middlemen, and it would take a lot more effort for Big Oil to get their cut, as oppsed to straight ethanol, which will probably require involvement of oil companies to power the distilleries..

And people would be very suprised if they knew how much effort the oil companies went to to dampen the biodeisel movement. Even got some laws passed while no one was looking to regulate the transport of it between states.

Hmmm...if Big Oil is afriad of it, that probably means it's a good bet for the future.

Regardless of ethanol's merits, the farmers are pretty happy about it. The brother-in-law is trying to decide how much acreage to devote to corn and how much to let go fallow or produce soy beans.
