By the end of the season...
...who do you feel was the best team in the conference?
Texas? OU? aTm? or Nebraska?

Yet they got rolled by Texas... who in the last game of the year lost to aTm.Moby Dick wrote:thought this debate was over?420 wrote:By the end of the season...

Like I said... at the end of the season.
if you wanna play the "this team got beat by that team and that team got beat by this team" game we can do that...
but we all know Oklahoma is (and will be at the end of the year) the best team in the Big XII.
by some fluke IF OU gets beat by Boise St. and Tejas takes care of Iowa and Nebraska beats Auburn...nebraska could have an argument...
but won't happen and OU will stay atop the BigXII.

If it isn't obvious to everyone here, the tool is trying to make a case that A&M is the "best team right now" in the XII and that Kal is favored to win the Holiday Bowl played in their backyard against the "best team right now" in the XII.
In other words...pathetic attempt at baiting.

I feel a & m should probably win this game after watching the Texas game.
After Cal was screwed by the officials in the Arizona game... it led to mediocre performances in the $C and Stanford game. Cal losing the last 2 of their 3 games. A&M has a very nice running game(which Cal has had a problem with this year), and a extremely solid D.
It was just a question I had been discussing with a friend who is an A&M fan yesterday.

Yeah, the officials lost the game for Cal. Not shitty play against a bad team.
As far as shitty officiating goes, why don't you mention that the Kal RB was moving forward when the ball was snapped on Jackson's long TD reception?

Nope, I watched the highlights. So Cal didn't play like shit against an inferior team? Or was Arizona a better team?
And I don't have a link because I don't give two shits. I know you can find one, go back and watch it for yourself.
So, I guess this never happened?

That's what I was thinking. Even if OU lost to a very average Pac 10 team(Oregon), and beat A&M by 1 point.Believe the Heupel wrote:Pretty easy.
The team that was the best team in the Big 12 at the end of the season was the one that snapped off eight straight wins to close out the year, including winning at Texas A&M.
mTool just wants to confirm Kal's third straight MNC, with notable losses to:
- The best team in the SEC in the biggest September road game in the history of mankind
- The best team in the Pac-10
- The best team in Tucson, AZ

No, I don't link to conspiracy theories. My point was for every bad call against Cal, I bet they got one in their favor as well. I'm also sure there was holding on that play. Big fucking deal.420 wrote:My bad, since the TD was a screen pass to the sidelines, and it looked like a lateral.
Do you have a link to a RB in motion?
Didn't think so. Keep you mouth shut unless you can back up your claim.
Good teams don't put themselves in positions to have officials cost them the game. Bitch all you want, but Cal lost to a shitty team.

That shitty team would have rolled ND by at least 2 TD's!Killian wrote:Bitch all you want, but Cal lost to a shitty team.
But what would you know... since ND only plays shitty teams, and when they play a couple of good teams they get blown out by more than 3 TD's!!!!

ATM presents some weird matchup problems for any D.....both in terms of scheme and with J. Lane and Goodson. If McGee's accuracy improved enough to establish a real threat...they would be a serious load on O.
they were much better on D than i thought they would be for the most part this year. they have talent, size and speed. with confidence, they are tough to beat. have not proven to be the same team on the road (minus beating UT) as at Kyle under Fran--though Fran has some iffy losses at Kyle as well.
they eat a lot of clock and shorten games.
didn't really come out and dominate a quality conference opponent but showed they could play with OU, NU, and beat UT in what is arguably a down year for the conference.

First of all, re: "good teams don't put themselves in position to let officials cost them the game," OU did NOT put itself in a position to allow the officials to cost us a game. The officials put us in that position by being incapable of doing their fucking jobs. It's not like we were down by 2 and a bad PI call put them in field goal range. The officals fucked up the onside call, the onside recovery, AND the PI call on the tipped pass... and continued to fuck them through the reviews, leading me to believe that, if an official is fucking you, he's GONNA finish, so take Knight's advice on that one.
Second. OU won the Big 12. That does not (necessarily) mean that they're the best team in the conference, but, given everything that they overcame this year, AND given the fact that they snapped off 8 in a row, I'd say that OU was the best team in the Big 12 at the end of the year. If Nebraska had beaten OU, would that have made THEM the best team in the Big 12? I dunno. Maybe...
Also, Texas didn't "lay a whoopin'" on OU. They won. We turned the ball over 5 times. I NEVER want to lose to Tejas, but, considering the way the rest of the season played out, I'll take it... this year.

And if Bomar didn't get stupid and if AD didn't get hurt, and if we didn't turn the ball over 5 times, and if Mack had stayed at North Carolina, and if... shutthefuckup. See? OU lost THEIR best player this year too, for most of the season, and we still won the games we needed to win. You, on the other hand, couldn't hold serve, at YOUR house, against YOUR rival.
Wait, you had to lose TWO games for us to catch you though... Who was the other team that beat you? Oh, that's right, Kansas fucking State. Outstanding. THERE is your argument.

Granted, that team was no where to be found in Manhattan and on T+1. The biggest difference was OU had a Senior playing QB and he had a very nice season. We played a freshman who also had a nice season. PT stayed healthy and we lost our leader and had no one to bail us out.

the recovered "lateral" for a TD was a missed call by the ref (look up the rule), and the fumble by Peterson was him putting the ball on the ground to try to stay balanced.....so neither of those were "stellar" play. i'm not going to dispute Texas made the plays to win that game, but yer rah rah view of that game is a bit silly. "dominated"? OU outstatted UT.Harvdog wrote:But when we played OU with their best player, we won 28-10. ....and the turnovers were caused by some pretty stellar play from our defense. and your senior/freshman comparison is equally hilarious--OU's "senior" was a converted WR who got run down by every media outlet in the US after being named started in August.
i will agree that a healthy UT team was probably the best team in the conference this year.....but in the end, so what? UT got beat by OU in 01 and went the conference championship with a shot to play in the BCS game and giftwrapped a W for Colorado with first half turnovers, i didn't see you on here posting OU was the better team in 01.
Oklahoma won the conference on the field. that's that.
lost in mtool's gibberish is that a shitty team would've no doubt beaten notre dame, a team that built its reputation by beating shitty teams that would roll them if they happened to ever play..Killian wrote:Let me pull your card.....Link? "No one to bail us out?" It's not like we went and grabbed some guy off of the street to play QB. We plugged in a QB who hadn't played in a while. Tejas could have done the same thing... That "Senior" that OU put in at QB hadn't EVER been a starter, and hadn't even played QB for 2 straight springs...Harvdog wrote:But when we played OU with their best player, we won 28-10. ....and the turnovers were caused by some pretty stellar play from our defense. Now, onto the "domination" comment... Yeah, it was:
First Downs: 13/13
Rushing Yards: 124/124
Passing Yards: 209/108
Total Yards: 333/232
3rd Down Conversations: 8 of 16 / 3 of 10
TOP: 32:09 / 27:51
Yards Per Play: 5.3/4.6
Penalties: 11 for 72 / 3 for 30
Turnovers: 5 / 0
The number on the LEFT of each slash is OU's... Tell me again, please, how Tejas DOMINATED that game? They dominated the turnover battle, which wasn't really a battle so much as a drunk spider monkey trying to hump a lubed-up kneecap.
Tejas WON the game... and rightfully deserved to, but they didn't DOMINATE shit.

i'm not stooping to that. i'm just saying that OU got "dominated" is a bit of an overstatement. OU got beat by Texas, plain and simple. UT made the plays in the second half to win. "dominated" is the 00 or 03 RRS. or 77-0. :wink:IndyFrisco wrote:Well, t.u. DID dominate in a Kal/m2 sorta way...

Well, I'd say both defenses dominated each other's offense in some aspect. For OU, it was holding t.u. to 232 yards. For t.u., it was forcing 5 turnovers, even if one was questionable, there's 4 more and they capitalized on them.
And yes, I see two posters above claiming stat bode. That is stooping.

i said: UT won the game by making plays (and the lateral call was a wrong interpretation of the rules). and winning the second half.

I'm not defending anything for A&M.
OU won the conference fair and square. They deserve to be where they are at and so do we. Hell, I thought we deserved the Alamo, but I'll take the Holiday as a gift.
Of course, both bowls suck, but they are better than the No Bowl we went to last year.

It is funny how things change when OU is the benefactor. I remember 2001 well. We lost to a better OU team. I have watched the highlight of RW so many times that it makes me sick. Yet, OU lost 2 games and didn't play for the BIG XII. Who was the best team in the Big XII in 2001? It was Nebraska. We had our shot and lost on the field to CU. Did that stop the OU fans making comments about how we didn't "deserve" to play for it cause they won the game? NO.
If "outgaining" the opponent makes one the better team then Hawaii would be national champions this year. If I am not mistaken, OU got 60 of their yards on one pass. Basically it was a typical smash mouth game. Texas won by 18. To sit here and bitch and whine like a bunch of little girls about 2 calls is typical. You guys love to talk shit about other teams and run guys when they pull the same shit. If Jon was in here claiming scoreboard for yards you would make him the all time board bitch.
The lateral you cry about was a just that, a lateral. It did not go forward. Thus, making it a live ball. I was surprised that OU didn't play to the whistle since they teach you that in pee wee ball. As for the fumble...learn your rules before you run your mouth.
According to the NCAA rules, "The ball is declard dead when any part of the runner's body, except his hand or foot, touches the ground or when the runner is tackled or otherwise falls and loses possesion of the ball as he contacts the ground with any part of his body, except his hand or foot." AD touches the ground with his hand and the ball came out therefore it was a fumble.
