respect for a President passing
My hubbie and I were watching some of the procedure for the funeral of President Ford tonight, and we were talking about the fact that he really didn't do much..only two years in office and never ran for it, but he was still the President. And that means something, and he seemed basically to be a good guy, so we paid some respect.
The thing that caught me was the humility of the service, even with the state thing they all do. If any Presidential funeral can be understated, this one is.
The channel that we were watching captured one view, with the Capital building in the background and the Washington monument in the foreground...and that said it all to me. We live in a good place. Hate it, love it, argue with it...this is a good place.

Except Ang is right, regarding respect (and I'd say you'd broken into some trolls' porn stash bookmarks, except there are women involved on the receiving end of those penii).Gunslinger wrote:Nuff respect!
With syndication, there is no reason whatsoever for the Big 3 news stations NOT to break into regular programming for historic events. The death of a president is historic. A repeat of King of Queens/According to Jim/whoever, is not. Apparently, CBS was the one 'regular' station not to do so .... while even the Weather Channel (allegedly) and QVC (allegedly) broke into regular programming to announce President Ford's death. I don't know what's going on at CBS, and their excuse about leaving such news to the cable networks is not only puzzling but immoral. Not everyone has cable or can afford cable. Was this a decision to pre-emptively appease their viewership (which would be utterly surprising), or was it a snub from the top?http://www.medaloffreedom.com/GeraldFordMedal.htm
Gerald R. Ford. Thirty-eighth President of the United States, Gerald Ford was elected to 13 terms in Congress before he was chosen by Richard Nixon to be his Vice President. As President, he brought the Vietnam War to a close. Recognized for his honesty and integrity, he worked to restore confidence in government and the Presidency.
Ford, Clinton said, as 38th President of the United States ended the "long national nightmare," of Watergate. America was "stronger, calmer and more self confident" as a result of Ford's Presidency, Clinton said.
The citation reads:
"Gerald R. Ford assumed the Presidency and led America during a time of unprecedented challenge. Building on bonds of trust forged during 25 years of exemplary public service in the United States Congress, he guided our Nation toward reconciliation and a reestablished confidence in our government. A leader of character, courage, decency, and integrity, he earned the Nation's enduring respect and gratitude. America is forever indebted to Gerald R. Ford -- 38th President of the United States -- for his legacy of healing and restored hope."
I don't buy and I don't discount the congressional medal quote from above because I was barely born during those years. I do find it strange that St. Ronnie is giving accolades in spite of so many suffered under him; while Gerald Ford is forever branded evil because of a pardon. Nixon and Agnew should have been held accountable ... but what exactly has the opposition done to rectify that in the years since? because now we have Bush II... and a promise from that opposition not to pursue proceedings against a man who has caused much more harm (in my incompletely informed opinion) to the american people and american standing than Ford. we also have an opposition who allowed one of their own to be impeached over a blow job.
but that's irrelevant. The president died. Break into news casts. Lower the flags. Give government workers the day off. Show respect.

Ford was a symbol of how the puppetmasters manipulate the government with such ease.
But you people don't seem to mind.
As an aside, am I correct when my memory tells me Ang is some sort of teacher or something? If so...OUCH!
When I was in school, any of those permission slips and whatnot that needed to have a parental signature then were returned to the school were sent back with all the spelling and grammar errors corrected (in proper proofreader's notation, in red ink), no less, along with a very nasty note. They'd usually write something like "Dear Principal Smith, would you kindly let my nine year old child teach your English classes, since he's infinitely more qualified that the person you're currently paying to do so?"
Apple don't fall too far from the tree, eh?

Respect is one thing, but re-making him into The Greatest President Ever is quite another.
Ford was the right guy for that moment in time, but that's as far as it goes.
By 1976, the voters rightly decided his time was up and elected the Grinning Idiot instead, and in 1980, it was obvious that he was still nearly as clueless as Carter and the people settled on Ronald Reagan to lead the nation.

As President, he brought the Vietnam War to a close.
wtf kinda tripe is that? They make it sound like he purposely ended it. What actually happened was he sat by and watched the heavily democratic congress sell south vietnam down the river. Not that it was his fault. Wasn't a fukking thing he could have done about it.

I mind. Ford pardoning Nixon was shit. Why? So the country could heal..or so Ford could help Nixon out? Couple that with FOrd's Warren Commission stint, and I'm not impressed. Yes, respect the office, but not so much the man.Dinsdale wrote:Ford was a symbol of how the puppetmasters manipulate the government with such ease.

I think it would be a capital idea if someone could get the capitol building spelling correct.

It sure doesn't. It languishes in an astroturf divot on the 5th hole fairway of the Eagle Landing Family Golf Center's miniature golf course.Dinsdale wrote:Apple don't fall too far from the tree, eh?

I've yet to play Eagle Landing since they took it over and made it schnazzy. My bud lives not too far from there, and we drove through a couple of times while the new clubhouse was under construction. Looks verrrry nice for a short par 3er. 27 holes up there now. I'll be checking it out soon. Maybe have tp pull out a driver on one of those 45 yard holes, and see if I can introduce a golf ball into one of those high-dollar chunks of real estate up on Mt. Scott.
The mini-course might be a good destination for a drunkfest during the Wet Season.

You're right, I don't. I made a comment about the reindeer, elsewhere, and thought I'd have fun after the 'thread death' crack on the previous page. But I don't know much about Bushice, either. I did a google search on his handle, to try to find some insight into who he is, that can be used to make a cheap Valvenis&Elgrandpeehole style Tab A to Slot B parody....Dinsdale wrote:Ingke Bodil wrote:It means you're not important enough for him to pay attention to in the first place.

How can one cheaply poke at a man like this? He sounds very nice, and polite (but only because of the last line). That's not the definition of cheap. If it's the same Bushice. There's promise in the image of the 'guitar playing statue', but I'm not the one to smelt value from that ore.It would be a 57 for guitar miking, but they work the best on electrics.
The real problem with live miking a guitar on stage is you can't move. The radius of sound pick up is so limited, you become a guitar playing statue
on board mics, such as sound hole pick ups or in line mic (like my thin line) are essential for live stuff, and work very well.
Man, I hope it's Ok we have this acoustic guitar talk going on at the synth board
Bushice
Which is to say, your own cheapshot at him sinks like the Edmund Fitzgerald. If he doesn't know your style, you're not memorable enough for him to put that much notice into your style. Or rather, your image of memorable isn't the same as his. He does have your number, Dinsdale. When you're in denial mode, you spin like no other -- because that's how you roll. How is your father? Have you spoken to him this past weekend?
